Top 3 foods that promote weight loss
A healthy meal plan is an essential part of weight loss. A food reward every once in awhile won't affect your weight loss, but the food choices you make every day can certainly impact your weight loss results. Choosing foods that are often correlated with lasting weight loss can jump start any meal plan.
Wonder why? So did the New England Journal of Medicine. NEJM, in association with a team of researchers from Harvard University set out to find which lifestyle choices - including nutrition and food choices - were connected to weight loss. Here are some of the foods that they found most beneficial to weight loss:
Mom always told you to eat your veggies, and she was right. The study found that vegetables, either fresh or frozen, are the number one food that promotes weight loss. Just make sure you go easy on the potatoes. The study found that potatoes, in the form of potato chips and whole potatoes, were among some of the top offender foods for building up excess fat.
It's no secret that there are large amounts of dietary fiber in whole grain breads, pastas and other “good” carbs. The higher fiber content and slower digestion of “good” carbs yields a fuller feeling and the study indicated that eating foods containing whole grains may help you lose weight with time.
It doesn't matter if it's fresh or frozen, there are plenty of reasons why eating fruit is good for your health. According to the U.S. Department of Health, the vitamins and minerals in fruit help to promote weight loss and will also contribute to a better and more nutritious lifestyle.
In terms of foods to avoid, the study also found that cutting out refined sugars and limiting processed foods helped in achieving weight loss goals.
