Kickoff your morning with this Pear Topped Cinnamon French Toast recipe. Hearty, healthy and happily devoured, this twist on traditional French toast is seriously delicious. Only 204 calories per serving, this dish uses brown sugar, cinnamon, pears, egg whites, skim milk, and white bread.

Ingredients

  • 3  Tbsp  firmly packed light brown sugar, divided
  • 2  tsp  water
  • 1/8  tsp  cinnamon
  • 2  medium  pears, cored, cut into 12 slices each
  • 1/3  cup(s)  egg white substitute
  • 4  tsp  skim milk
  • 1/2  tsp  vanilla extract
  • 1/4  tsp  cinnamon
  • 4  thin slice(s)  slices hearty white bread
  • 1  non-stick cooking spray

Directions

  1. Spray 10-inch skillet with cooking spray.
  2. Stir 2 tablespons brown sugar, water and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon into skillet.
  3. Heat over medium heat until bubbling; continue cooking 1 minute more.
  4. Add pear slices and cook 1 to 2 minutes or until pears are tender.
  5. Remove mixture from skillet; keep warm.
  6. Wipe out skillet and spray again.
  7. Combine egg white substitute, milk, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, vanilla and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon in shallow bowl or pan.
  8. Quickly dip both sides of bread in mixture.
  9. Heat sprayed skillet over medium heat.
  10. Cook bread slices 1 to 1 1/2 minutes per side until golden brown; spray skillet again if necessary.
  11. Remove bread from skillet and top with pear mixture.
  12. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon if desired.
