Ingredients

  • 2  pound(s)  beef for stew, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3  Tbsp  all-purpose flour
  • 2  Tbsp  vegetable oil
  • 1  bay leaf
  • 1  Tbsp  seasoned salt
  • 1/2  tsp  marjoram leaves
  • 1/4  tsp  ground black pepper
  • 1  can(s)  14-ounce beef broth
  • 4  carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4  medium  potatoes, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2  celery stalks, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4  small  onions, peeled and quartered

Directions

  1. Coat beef cubes with flour
  2. Heat oil in large saucepan or Dutch oven and brown cubes on all sides over high heat
  3. Add seasonings and beef broth
  4. Stir well and heat to boil
  5. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 1 1/2 hours
  6. Add carrots, potatoes, celery, and onions to stew
  7. Cover and cook 30 minutes or until vegetables are fork tender
  8. Add additional water as necessary
  9. Remove and discard bay leaf
