Real Lives. Real Change.
People just like you have found real weight loss success on Jenny Craig. If they can do it, you can too! Read their inspiring stories.
I was like so many of today's woman and men, who find themselves in self-denial and in a procrastinating rut. I knew I was living an unhealthy life. I did not exercise; ate foods full of fat, salt and sugar; and had few vegetables or fruit on my menu. It was an extra-large, all-you-can-eat, unhealthy buffet to a heart attack and gross weight gain. This lifestyle had steadily been putting extra pounds on my body, until I found myself 100 lbs overweight. No longer were my so-called comfort foods comforting; instead, they were condemning.
I could no longer walk up the stairs without breaking into a hot, panting mess, with my heart pounding out of my chest. I had high blood pressure, a bloated overweight body and depression. I knew that I suffered from an erratic heartbeat and that heart disease was in my family and was the number one killer of women. It wasn't until I found myself shopping for a watch that reality hit me in the face. The saleswoman took the watch from the showcase and held the steel band for me to try. My hand was too fat and bloated to fit. It's the little things! I was shocked. I had put on so much weight that I couldn't fit into a watch. It was TIME FOR A CHANGE.
Jenny Craig has given me a chance to make that change. Like all weight-challenged people, I know I have to eat better foods and control my portions but I just couldn't do it alone. I was tired of the weight loss routine of weighing, sizing and measuring food bites. At the beginning, I needed help.
With Jenny, I can eat healthy food with whole grains, low fat content and reduced salt. The portion-controlled foods reduce my stress and worry. I don't have to think, "Am I doing it right?" With Jenny, I learned that starving yourself is not a way to lose weight. The key to success is lifestyle change with slow steps leading to permanent results. I've learned that it's OK to have a piece of cheesecake if you control the portion size. It's not about depravation; it's about the quality and portion of my food choices.
Today I am 90 lbs* lighter than when I started on Jenny, and have surpassed my original goal. Like life, I am a work in progress as I take back control of my body. I walk an hour in the morning and another hour in the evening. Since exercising, my erratic heartbeat is gone and my blood pressure is back to normal. I am stronger not only physically but mentally. Most importantly, my success is not based on a number on the scale, but is a result of the healthy lifestyle changes I have made. I am not stressed or worried about my pant size or what others think of me. Now, I am thinking positively about healthy living and being the best that I can be for myself and my family. I purposely make healthy choices so my health and body benefit. I take the stairs, park farther back in the parking lots and take my dog out for an extra walk. In fact, my whole family benefits from my healthy outlook on life.
Now, I make time for myself. I take time for health, to feel good about myself and to control my destiny. I even went back to the store and bought that watch. Today, it fits perfectly. I guess you could say it is perfect timing!
