While at work one day, I fainted for the first time in my life. I was stressed out at my desk, and decided to walk to the mailroom. The next thing I knew I was on the floor. The paramedics were called and during the course of the examination, I was asked if I had taken my diabetic meds that day. This surprised me since I had never been diagnosed as a diabetic. The EKG they performed showed my heart was not performing correctly and that my blood pressure was 200/125. I was rushed to the hospital and was put through a battery of tests. The heart specialist told me if I didn't change my lifestyle and lose weight, I would be dead. The whole episode scared the living daylights out of me, and I decided right then to do something about it. I have two daughters and three beautiful grandchildren. I want to be healthy for them to watch them grow and continue to be a part of their lives. At the time I was eating anything and everything to deal with my stress, and it was putting me at risk for a heart attack, stroke and diabetes. I decided to make a resolution to sign up for Jenny Craig and start my new life.
I lost 84 lbs* on Jenny Craig. My lifestyle has changed greatly since the day I was rushed to the hospital. Now I live one day at a time. It really helps to have support from your family while changing habits for the better. My husband is 120 percent behind me and is so proud of what I've accomplished. Courtney, my Jenny Craig Consultant, has always been a support for me—in the good weeks and not-so-good weeks. I've learned portion control, and if I mess up, I get right back on the straight and narrow. I am very aware of the food choices I make and now love fruits and veggies that provide lots of vitamins and help me control hunger. I still have that sweet tooth, but the Jenny snacks allow me treats in moderation and help me curb temptation. The Jenny meals are delicious and taught me correct portions and nutrition balance. For physical exercise, I like to walk. I also try to work out at my local fitness club twice a week. I'm not a big fan of exercise, but I learned it is one of the secrets to a healthier life. Do I miss all the fattening food? Yes, I do. But when that thought comes to mind, I am reminded of my doctor's dire warning and of how hard I've worked to accomplish my weight loss goal and to live a healthier life.
Since losing weight, my blood pressure is now at 120/75. I have more energy and love to run around like a lunatic with my grandchildren. Spring is almost here and my old wardrobe no longer fits, and I now look forward to shopping. I love life and the great feeling of knowing that I've not only improved my health but fit into some cute new clothes, too!
