I never thought that a four-minute phone call would start me on a life-changing journey. My son Zach called me one day to say that his friend wanted to join Jenny Craig but she didn't want to do it alone. He suggested that she ask me to do it with her because "my mom loves that sort of stuff." I was really moved because my son thought of me. I called his friend and she sort of explained the program. The next day I went into the closest center where I met my consultant, Ida.
Ida completely explained the program to me. She discussed my goals, documented my measurements, took a "before" picture and went over my 1,200-calorie menu for the week. I left there with a week's worth of food and lots of literature to keep me busy. But I also left there with determination. That night, my son Adam and my husband Jeff were eager to see all the food and hear about the program. In fact, for the first few months, I think Adam was as excited to see what I was going to have for dinner as I was.
A few months after I started Jenny, Zach decided that he was joining the Marines as a reservist. He left for boot camp, and I knew that he would be away for several months without any contact with us. When we attended his boot camp graduation, I had lost a substantial amount of weight and it was very evident. He was amazed at my weight loss.
I lost 60 lbs* on Jenny, and Ida took an "after" picture and printed it for me along with my "before" picture. I brought them home and left them side by side on the kitchen counter. When Adam came home from school, I showed him the pictures. He hugged me really tight then said, "Mom, that's amazing."
I am very fortunate that I married a wonderful and supportive man. Jeff has always been in great shape and exercises daily. When I joined Jenny, he said that he was happy for me and that he knew that I could stick to the program. His constant encouragement has helped keep my motivation going. For my birthday he bought me a gym membership (that I actually use)!
Our lifestyle used to consist of much dining out, especially on the weekends. I used to search the Internet for restaurants near destinations. After I joined Jenny, that changed drastically. Now I search for things to do and activities near destinations. To celebrate my weight loss, we went to Hawaii. I was so excited to be able to sit comfortably on the plane and cross my legs. We did a lot of hiking and exploring and had a great time!
I tell anyone wanting to lose weight that Jenny Craig is not only a weight loss program. It is also a program that helps you keep moving forward. Exercising while on Jenny has helped me speed up my weight loss and feel more comfortable about myself. I have my friends exercising as well. We enjoy hiking, walking and playing tennis. This has helped me stay on the right track to a healthy lifestyle.
