Stretch into Yoga

Trying to balance work, kids, your partner, and a weight loss plan is no piece of cake! With everything that you may have going on in your life, the thought of creating an activity plan may add more stress and anxiety. Fortunately, there is a way to combat stress and work up a sweat at the same time. Give yoga a try!

Yoga is a total mind-body exercise routine that may help improve strength, flexibility and balance.

All yoga styles have two main tenets: poses and breathing techniques

  • Poses are a series of specific movements that will help increase your strength and flexibility.
  • Breathing techniques are an important part of any yoga experience. Yoga teaches that by learning to control your breath, you will learn to control your body and quiet your mind. 
  • Yoga classes can be found everywhere, from trendy health spas to community centers. If you find yourself tired and bored after a few too many miles on the treadmill, or if you have chronic joint pain, a yoga fitness routine may be the right thing for you. Yoga has many forms, styles and intensities, so no matter where you are on your weight loss journey, there should be a yoga class or routine that is right for you.

    It's not all about stress reduction (we can just call that a bonus). As you learn, practice and refine your poses, you can improve your range of motion and build strength. Yoga can benefit most people, as many of the postures help improve balance and flexibility. This means it's less likely to injure yourself while enjoying sports or other physical activity.

    Yoga may not seem like your cup of tea, but it doesn't hurt to give it a try! It could reduce stress and help you reach your fitness goals at the same time.
