Manage Your Cravings when Entertaining

Whether for the Super Bowl, the holidays or just a simple get-together, entertaining is a great way to stay in touch with old friends, make new friends and spend quality time with the people you care about.

However, hosting an event can be a lot of work. Between planning, grocery shopping, cooking, decorating and other party preparations, its no wonder that many people experience stress when putting a party together. On top of the anxiety that comes with planning an event, many typical party foods can make managing cravings difficult.

Here are a few tips for sticking to your weight loss regimen during your party prep:

  • Don't grocery shop when you're hungry! It's a given that grocery shopping when hungry is a bad idea, but also write you're shopping list when you're not hungry to help you stick to your healthy habits.
  • Try chewing sugarless gum when you are preparing food. This can help you manage eating cues before the party starts.
  • If you can't avoid"tasting" when you cook, make sure to use a 1/4 teaspoon measuring utensil to avoid overeating.
  • During the party, avoid the food table by turning up the music and dancing — who says you can't have fun and burn calories at the same time?
  • Just because you are on a diet plan doesn't mean you can't throw a great party! With smart planning (see Jenny's list of Holiday Menus) you can have fun, be an excellent host and stick to your goals.
