Jenny Craig's Summer Survival Guide

Summer is a time for celebration; blue skies, warm breezes and hopefully some time away from home or the office! But if you’re not diligent about keeping your weight loss journey on track, “celebration” can go hand-in-hand with “temptation.” In fact, a recent study revealed that despite an increase in physical activity, 61% of vacationers are likely to gain weight while on holiday—weight that is likely to hang around for up to six weeks after the trip is over.

It’s just one of the many reasons summer is a great time to start or stick to your Jenny Craig weight loss program. Here are six simple tips for staying the course, no matter where your summer adventures take you.

1. ‘Tis the season
Warmer weather means consistent availability of low-fat, high-nutrition foods like fresh fruits and vegetables—making it easy to supplement your Jenny Craig menu with lots of healthy options. Make a weekly trip to your local farmer’s market to ensure that you’ve always got lots of free foods on hand… bonus points if you walk or bike!

2. Sun’s out, grill’s out
Whether you’re cooking an entire meal or looking for quick, healthy sides—grilling is a great way to cook fresh, delicious meals without the added fat you might need for sautéing… or the natural sugars brought out by oven roasting. 3. Embrace the light
Days are at their longest during the summer, and that means more options for outdoor exercise—and more time to do it! If you can’t motivate the whole family to take an after-dinner bike ride, you know the dog is always up for a stroll. Easy movement after a meal is a great way to stimulate your metabolism and help support healthy digestion.

4. Swim your way slim
Swimming is one of the healthiest forms of exercise, especially during the summer; not only is it easy to stay cool in the pool—but you can burn around 700 calories per hour (155-lb person, swimming freestyle) without the impact of running or other high-impact sports. Consider joining a master swim class or a local water aerobics group!

5. Vacation activation
If you do have plans to get away this summer, think about ways to “activate” your holiday. Start your day with a brisk walk. Choose the bike tour over the tour bus. Select a restaurant a half-mile away from your hotel, and walk to and from dinner… then use these smart choices to inform the choices you make during your meals.

6. Dare to bare
Let’s face it: we all feel better in our skin when we’re making healthier choices. If you’re losing the average 1–2 pounds per week* that Jenny Craig members typically lose, a summer’s worth of smart eating and activity could add up to quite a bit of extra poolside panache.
