3 Ways to Heat Up Your Menu with Horseradish

If you like your foods spicy, you’ve probably already experimented with several ways to “bring some heat” to your Jenny Craig menu, including adding hot sauce to your Mexican-inspired dishes or even to your Macaroni & Cheese (hey, don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it). But have you considered trying horseradish? Known for its instantaneous, sinus-blasting burst of icy heat, it can add a different dimension of flavor to many foods. Get creative with these three simple suggestions.

1. Top it!
Creamy horseradish sauce is actually a low-fat, low-calorie, sugar-free and cholesterol-free food, making it an excellent condiment to accompany your Jenny Craig weight loss journey. Try spreading some on your Beef and Cheese Slider, or if you’d like a morning wake-up call, on your Mediterranean Style Egg Sandwich. Adding some heat to your meal will naturally slow your consumption—which is always a good thing.

2. Mix it!
Mix a bit of plain grated or creamy horseradish into the roasted potatoes that come with your Salisbury Steak, or the mashed potatoes that come with your Roasted Turkey Medallions. Toss a teaspoon into your Asian Style Chicken for an instant burst of flavor, or add the same amount to our Asian Beef Salad recipe. 3. Dress it!
With the weather getting warmer, now’s the perfect time to start thinking about flavorful entrée salads. Here’s one we love: start with half a head of butter lettuce, chopped into medium-sized pieces. Toss in a handful of low-sodium garbanzo beans. Next, combine ½ cup reduced-fat sour cream, 2 tablespoons creamy horseradish, 1/3 cup chopped herbs (dill, chive and green onion), 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss your salad with half the dressing, top with canned albacore tuna or grilled chicken, and enjoy!
