With New Corporate Collaborations, Jenny Craig Helps Businesses Battle the Bulge
Eighty percent of executives say corporations have a responsibility to promote wellness among employees
Carlsbad, Calif. ( Dec. 19, 2005) - Jenny Craig, Inc., one of the world's largest weight management companies, announced that it has joined forces with several organizations, the most recent of which is CIGNA. Based in Connecticut with approximately 16 million members nationwide, CIGNA is including Jenny Craig in its Healthy Rewards® program that is available to all members enrolled in CIGNA HealthCare, CIGNA Behavioral Health and/or CIGNA Dental programs.

MCI, Lockheed Martin, AT&T, Pep Boys and Wells Fargo are among the employers that have recently joined forces with Jenny Craig to provide discounted weight management programs for their employees.
The growing obesity numbers in America has caused a rise in healthcare costs, due to decreased productivity in the workplace, absenteeism and obesity related illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer. The total cost of obesity to U.S. companies is estimated at $13 billion annually, and it accounts for more than 9 percent of total annual medical care expenses, according to the National Business Group on Health.
With those statistics in mind, businesses of all sizes are becoming more active in addressing the obesity epidemic in America. According to a 2004 survey by the American Management Association, 80 percent of executives say corporations have a "responsibility to promote wellness among employees."
"Employers who have implemented wellness programs not only recognize a significant return on investment - at least 20 percent of healthcare costs," said Barbara Fulmer, National Director of Corporate Programs for Jenny Craig.
