Since I had my first daughter, my weight has yo-yoed! Eating for comfort had become my ongoing way to deal with stress. I was heavier more often than not, and it was affecting my life in negative ways. It was holding me back from enjoying my family to the fullest. I avoided photos like the plague, which robbed me of precious memories. I remember at one family reunion we stayed in a cabin with my extended family. Someone found some old records and everyone was dancing with their kids except for me. It made me sad. I was missing out on a fun moment with my kids because I was embarrassed about how I looked. Another weight-related embarrassment came after attending a fund-raiser. Our local newspaper featured an article about the event, which included a photo of my family taken during the festivities. The worst part about seeing that photo was the realization of how heavy I had become! I also knew that being overweight was affecting my health as well. My cholesterol was checked at a health fair and I was told it was high. A follow-up with my physician confirmed this health risk. This was a major concern, as I have a family history of heart disease. After that photo in the paper, the high cholesterol, and the desire to be a healthy role model for my daughters, I decided to do something about my weight.
I joined Jenny and lost 40 lbs.* I loved the personal connection Jenny provided me by weekly private consultations with a caring consultant. At my first visit, my Jenny consultant and I had a great heart to heart and she said something to me that really stuck! "It's okay to make yourself a priority!" What an "aha" moment! Making myself a priority helped set me up for success. Another great part of the program is the Jenny's CuisineĀ®. Not only was the food delicious, I learned what a healthy menu and portion look like, which helps me now when I prepare my own food. Before Jenny, I was eating more junk food and larger portions.
I am beyond grateful for this program and cannot thank Jenny and my consultant enough! Not only am I healthier now, I've become even more involved with my kids because I am no longer ashamed. I've learned I need to surround myself with a support system that keeps me going and cheers me on. All moms are proud of their kids, but now I think my kids are proud of me, too! I will not be missing any other chances to dance with my kids!
