Full Version: Wii Work Out
Jenny Craig > Welcome > New Members
Gi Squared
There are a lot of workout games for the Wii right now. I was hoping we can use this forum to share our goals, and accomplishments on the Wii.

Also would like to see how people feel about the games they are playing on the games. There are so many and with the cost any where from 30-50 dollars, maybe we can share our joys or struggles with a certain game here, to help guide others on purchasing.

I love the Wii Fit Game that is played with the Wii Balance Board. I have had it since it came out back in 2007. They recently put out a new Wii Fit PLUS games with combines with your Wii Fit Data. I love it and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I find that I need a solid hour to work up a good sweat and up my heart rate. I recently purchased a riser for my balance board that gives me a great workout when I do the step exercise. The riser is sold at best buy for about $30.00.

Be forwarned about some exercise based games....I always check out the reviews of games before I purchased them on Amazon.com. It has been extremely helpful to me. For instance, I purchased the Jillian Michaels game for the Wii and was SOOOOOO dissappointed. Had I first read the reviews, I would have seen the awful things others had said about it before I purchased it.

I also recently purchsed the Wii ACTIVE which is nice as well. It allows you to pick a workout by intensity and keeps track of your workouts. I found it a touch expensive, about $60.00 for a game disc and a tension band. You might be able to find it cheaper now or on ebay.

Please feel free to ask me about games you are thinking about purchasing, as I have a nice library of games that my family plays.

Happy Workout!

Wii Fit is my fav too...
Hoola Hoop - 150
Ski Slolom (Begginer) - 40.2 sec
Love the step, but I'm not ready to raise the height yet... still getting my coordination on it down.
Boxing (Begginer) - 304

Wii Active is awesome too... that will definately give you a hard work out too.

I bought Punch Out when it was realeased, it is great just like the origional except you really are the boxer... My only dissappointment on it is that there really isn't a training area. It would be cool if you could "Go To The Gym" and work on the different punches, blocks and ducks.

Wii Sports Resort has some active games too, the biking and canoeing will kick your hiney if your competeing against someone.

I think this is a great conversation...I'm buying the Wii fit w/ balance board this weekend for an early Christmas present and I was thinking of buying the Wii sports resort for a "family" gift.

twistedkitten
Although it is not 'active' I have the Trivia Pursuit for the Wii and love it. When my siblings and all my nieces and nephews get together it is great fun. I would highly recommend it. My nieces are able to play and answer some of the questions and their ages are 9 and 13.

Just a suggestion...
Gi Squared
Sounds like fun... I never thought of that one.. we do like Rubiks World...it is a good brain workout.
If you like bowling stick with the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resorts... DO NOT GET AMF.... the throw is way off. In the Wii Sports..when you throw your virtual ball, the ball reacts much like it would if you were really bowling. The AMF, you almost had to hold the Wii-mote inverted to get a good throw. That was the only game we took back so far.

Nintendo hit the nail on the head with this system, it gets people off the couch and actually moving to play. I love it.
Mare81
I love EA active because it is more intense than Wii fit...I don't know why but I find I just don't get a good workout from fit. If I am going to do a fitness game or video, I need it to be more equivalent to when I go for a run.

I agree with checking reviews on amazon, as well as college video for regular fitness dvds (not wii) they have good reviews.

I love Jillian's dvds but I heard the wii game was terrible too. She has another one out now...I wonder what that one is like?
EllenWheels
I wear a BodyBugg, and was a little disappointed in the calorie burns with both the WiiFit and EA Active discs. They are a fun thing to do for an hour when the weather was too bad (my dogs break and run for home at the first rumble of distant thunder) to take my dogs for a walk. I burn almost double the amount of calories on a brisk walk in the park for an hour.

The other criticism I would have is that I injured myself with EA Active, by doing the running-in-place segments. I developed a painful toe separation that sidelined me from my favorite forms of exercise for several months.

Right now, I am in the process of doing some remodeling in my house, and will be moving the home gym to the basement. I will set up the Wii down there, and use the treadmill for the running segments.

The Wii really is fun, and I applaud its ability to get the potatoes off the couch and moving. I would not by any means consider it a replacement for a brisk walk in a hilly park, because it only burns about half the calories.

I did a little poking around online, and found that the Biggest Loser game that came out in October is pretty highly rated. They have it at Costco, and I may pick one up today.
Gi Squared
Another Great work out on the Wii Fit today... Lasted 30 mins on advanced step... Did advanced hoola hoop and got 488 WOW.... On skiing... I beat 40 secs....got down to 33 secs... Couldn't believe how well I did.
The neatest thing was this time, after almost a whole hour of working out... I felt great. After a little rest... I chased the dog around the house a bit.

I bought the Wii fit plus w/ balance board this weekend and love it. You're working out w/out even realizing it, obviously it doesn't take the place of a nice long walk or jog but when you can't get out it does the trick (or doing it along with walking during the day).

I couldn't figure out why my arms were sore but it's from all the boxing, that workout I don't get when walking.

The Wii resort is definately on the Christmas list.

Gi Squared
Resort has some sedintary games but also has some active games...
There is a bicycle race where you have to take the Wii-mote and Nunchuck up and down as fast as you can to pedal...and a canoe race that you have to move the Wii-mote like a paddle ON BOTH SIDES to steer too...

When we first got the Wii... I boxed for a 1/2 hour straight.. and I couldn't move the next day.... I hurt sooo bad. The boxing is an excellent way to get your arms inolved.

As you get your co-ordination down on the Step program... Try to incorporate your arms (like you were really on a stage)... you will notice that too, but it helps get the arms involved better. And looks good while your at it. biggrin.gif

Great to talk with a fellow Wii-er... Let me know your high scores... as you go. I haven't got the plus yet, but maybe for Christmas. biggrin.gif

I bought the WII to do the WII fit. I'm not much of a video game person but I got it because my gym recently moved all the classes to their another location which is annoying to get to..I figured on the days I cant get to a class I can do the WII Fit.

I done it twice- the Jillian Michaels one.. I did like it but it was annoying calborating the remote to get to the other islands..Is that only me?
ReneeJ
I don't have the Wii Fit but I do use the EA SPORTS ACTIVE More Workouts. I love it. The exercises are great and so is the setting. I also used the first EAS ACTIVE personal trainer but I like the new one better. The new one incorporates stretching and ab work. And just so you know, I was an original Challenger for the game and am currently on a 6 week challenge - http://easportsactive.com

But, I do genuinely love the game and am not paid to endorse it.
EllenWheels
Yesterday before dinner, we had a family Wii bowling tournament. It was fun, and at least we weren't just sitting around!
Shanna_rene
I have a wii too and I bought the wii fit plus game. I am finding that the step one is not as good as the free running to get your steps in. I do the running for half an hour and I get double the amount of the steps in than the step one.

WOW..I'm so glad I found this thread. I fell off the wagon and am ready to get back on. So, just today my dh and I have been talking about getting the wii and wii fitness to go with it. He figured it would be a fun way to get some exercise but we didn't know much about it. Sounds like it's something we would both like.
rcampuzano
It's been a while since I visited the board and I'm so happy I did. I just bought the Wii just so that I could get the Wii fit plus smile.gif first game system I've ever bought. So far I've installed the Wii but I still haven't started the program. I think keeping up with this thread will (hopefully) motivate me! I am looking forward to the bowling and baseball game in the sport disc and the balance exercises in the fit plus.

I also try to hit 10,000 steps per day and most days I get in at least 7,000.

I will get started with the Fit plus this week and come back and post my impressions. This might just be the only way I exercise.
BSK9675
Just yesterday I really recommited myself to JC and loosing weight after falling off the wagon for quite a few months. I was all set to join the gym, and then for some reason got the idea that I should get a Wii instead - so I purchased myself an early holiday gift. I can't wait for it to come. I figure I spend most of my free time playing computer games anyways, hopefully this will get me to be more active while still getting my game "fix".
smw0621
Last night I tried the segway tour on the Wii fit plus...OMG!!! My legs were so tired when I was done, you literally lean forward or backward to get the segway going...great workout. Then I did another one where you flap your arms to fly (can't remember the name)....I'm trying the difference excercises and lovin it. Great investment.

Awesome... I have thought about the Wii Fit Plus... it is only 20 (if you already have the board) at Wal-Mart... It's cool to see that there are different excersises there. I have heard that if you are doing this with another person, it is easy to switch off on the profiles... is that true?

I'm not a runner (bad knee's) so the Wii has been a great way to help get the heart rate up. The only thing I'd like to see is an easier way to unlock the more advanced functions, so if you need to jump to a higher cardio you can do so more quickly.

EllenWheels
Gigi, after I get my Wii, bike, treadmill and BowFlex to the basement, I'm going to start doing the cardio sections on the equipment, instead of running in place. Maybe using a stationary bike for those sections would give you the numbers to move to a higher level, without the high stress on your knees.

I had a real problem with the running in place. I developed a painful toe separation from it, and it has taken a couple months for it to heal. That's why I'm going to switch to using the exercise equipment I already had, along with the Wii, for the cardio.
smw0621
It's very easy to switch profiles, there's a little button to click on in the bottom right hand side of the tv screen that says "switch".

I know you do the bodybugg like i do. I have never done anything Wii, but have been thinking about it.
I'd be really interested in your calorie numbers on Wii, versus your dog walks and your treadmill.
i seem to burn about 100 cal per mile on my treadmill, so it nets to about 400 cal per hour.
i would love to know how this compares to the Wii.

thanks, ceebee
Gi Squared
That's a great idea... I have thought about getting a second Wii to place in the loft with the excercise equipment. That way I can do the fast walking/running on the treadmill and for Wii Sports Resort, I could do our stationary bike for the cycleing program.

My problem with using the excersise equipment upstairs is...there is NOTHING to look at.... I can't read and run... I could do the bike and read but still ... I need something. We are working on putting a TV/DVD up there right now... but with the holidays some projects have been postponed.

Yesterday... I actually left the house for a walk... and I met along the way the first mayor of the town I live in... one of our founding fathers. He and I ended up chatting for about an hour or so. It was great.... I may start to leave my home more often.... I love it where I live because it is so rural and quiet... and the people are very friendly.

My dh and I really like our Wii fit. I usually do the step and adv hulahoop (gets my heart pumping big time), and he likes the run and boxing. Also have Active. Only used few times; still trying to figure out. Even tho reviews say the Wii fit isn't really a workout, I can say it has definitely gotten us up off our butts ! I have even been encouraged to pull out my old aerobics & step videos. Forgot how much fun they were.

HAS ANYONE TRIED THE DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION ? Looks like fun.

I went out shopping yesterday, and I found the WiiFit Plus at Costco for $17.79, so I picked one up. I haven't tried it yet, though. Maybe tonight.
Gi Squared

Gigi, do you already have the balance board? I'm thinking of buying the riser to put uner the balance board to lift it up (I think it said 3")...if you do the free step on the Wii fit plus you can watch tv and walk, you can hear everything through the wii remote.

Carrie...I love the advance hula-hooping...I feel silly doing it and it's funny to see what my circles look like when I'm done.

Mina..

Yep.. I bought it last year... we just played around on it up until September..I started seriously in Sept, but got sick at the end of the month... and ended up out of commission for 5 weeks... got serious again when I joined JC.

I won a weight loss challenge and got 80 bucks prize money. I spent part of it on the Wii Plus... I am going to work out on it today.. I can't wait. I will have to let you all know how I do.

For the WLC at work, I lost 11 pounds from November 9 to December 4.. woo hoo.. we are doing another round again.. wiegh in for work was 211 (with clothes on).. 3 pounds of clothes. My husband decided to join the work challenge too.

Can't wait... need to figure what I am going to spend my next winnings on. biggrin.gif

I just got the Wii Plus over the weekend. and I love it... Oh man.. the burn in the legs is awesome.

I did the segway and didn't think it was going to do much but by the end of the 3rd round I could hardly stand up.

The new games are fantastic.
I also did the golf swing analysis...and it helped me straighten my shot out. Maybe if I practice virtually enough, I will be able to pick up a real club and be able to compete. Who knows?

There's a great Wii game out there called "My Fitness Coach" - its $20 and is like having modernized version of the old Jane Fonda workout. Except each time you work out it is a different routine. I started on the Wii Fit and decided I wanted something more challenging. This was a good choice.

Count me in! I've had the Wii Fit for awhile, but I got the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas. I love it! I've been doing the rhythm karate (not the official name, but you know what I mean), the cycling and the marching band exercise along with the hula hoop, step and rhythm boxing. My goal is 30 mins a day. It's not the most strenuous activity, but who am I kidding? I'm a beginner and I need somethign to help me establish the habit right now. And Wii Fit is doing that. I love it!

Hi can you please tell what is the difference between the wii fit and the wii fit plus and tell which games you recomend for them that r hi intensity Thanks Maria
Gi Squared
Wii Fit Plus has new games Plus all the older ones... also there are better ways of tracking (software was improved).
As for intensity... I get a sweat (but not too hard for me) doing the cycling... the bird flying ... boxing ... and the obsticle course. My legs really feel the workout on the segway.
The games sneak up on you...you feel like you are playing... but after a bit, you will feel like oh man...and if you aren't careful, you will feel it the next day.

Another good one for raising your heart rate is Wii SPORTS RESORT... their cycling and canoeing these are not on the fit board, but using the WiiMote and Nunchuck to do the activity. You will feel real tired after a bit.

Hi! I'm new to the forums and have been doing Jenny Craig 10 weeks. I've lost 20 lbs so far and am feeling really good about it. I have a REALLY long ways to go, but I will get there...

Anyway - I have been wearing a pedometer and trying to get in 10,000 steps each day, and I love using our Wii to get extra steps in at the end of the day. I don't have any of the actual fitness games, but love playing tennis or bowling and sometimes boxing even though it kicks my butt! My daughter always laughs when I am boxing because I yell at the TV telling the guy to stay down. ;-)

My mom just bought me the Your Shape game (with Jenny McCarthy) for my b-day this weekend, and I am planning to set it up tonight and check it out. It looks really cool and I can't wait to try it out!

I'll let you know how it was tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!

Hi:

I joined the WFP revolution this week-end. Got if for XMAS with lots of different games and so far I am loving it. I am still figuring it all out as I have never touched a gaming system in my life. So far, WFP seems a bit tame but I am not sure if that is because I need to "earn the right" to move up levels??? For example the hula hooping only gives me about 90 seconds at a time. Will that increase as you get better?

I have the biggest loser game but have just looked at the tutorial so far. I have not yet tried EA Active but I hear that's good for a more intense work-out. As said already, the reviews on amazon, etc are really helpful in making choices.

Has anyone tried Just Dance? WOW - this one is fun and a great work-out. So far, its the only cardio that's making me sweat. I am addicted to this one. I need to give WFP more time, I think I am missing something as far as levels of intensity. Any help would be appreciated.

Happy wiiing. Amy

Great topic, beings that I was thinking of purchasing this product. I wasnt aware of the many different versions, so thanks for the information.

Just tried the Biggest Loser version. Started with a 6 minute warm up...ok not too bad but when I clicked to start the 'real' workout I hit the wrong button and had to go thru the warm up again.
Anyone know how to get back to main screen to pick the right session? Also can't figure out how to escape program if I decide maybe I'll do this later.
Gi Squared
Never tried Biggest Loser... but usually the interupt button is (I think...) the plus button.... if not, you can always hit the home button... and tell the software to reset. Just a thought.

I'm going to take the pups to the park for a good calorie-burning workout, and then I think I'll try out the TBL game for the first time today. It sounds like fun. I also have another new workout game to try. I couldn't pass them up when Costco had them for sale for a couple dollars less than anywhere else before Christmas, but they've been sitting there unused for several weeks!

I have been using the Wii to get off the couch more but feel I need to go the gym to actually get a workout. But its fun and a good distraction and the kids love it too. my friend got Just Dance and said its great exercise and fun so I may try that. On the Wii fit the only thing that really gets my heart rate up is the advanced hula hoop. The running feels too weird for me. Anyone have suggestions of games that give a higher workout intensity?
