Just curious - how long have you been on JC?
vgtigger
you really have to be creative in volumizing and changing it up a bit, when I find I may be getting sick of it I try something new with the food, or order something I haven't tried yet because I do tend to stick to my favorites. If you are on planned menu maybe you could try selecting your own. However what i have learned is the planned menu's are balanced out with %carb, protein, fat, so when you do your own jenny menu maybe you could work with consultant to help plan out the week. Once I noticed I ordered alot of Pasta and talked with her before placing the order on how to better manage the menu.

Get the volumetric cookbook for ideas on sprucing up food. there are a zillion options, sometimes I take a meal and do a stuff pepper with it, or like the egg sandwich make it an egg florentine, sky's the limit to success on not getting bored.

Go back and re-try ALL the foods. Often times our taste buds can change after being on program for a while and get used to the lower salt lower fat foods, so some things that you initially found to be "icky" might taste better to you now. Then a few months down the road try everything again once more, and you find you will probably have a few more favorites.

Being bored with the foods is usually a problem with your mind set. Most people who say they are "bored" or "sick" of the foods in reality are just looking for an excuse to quit the program. They have really just gotten bored with the program! The newness has worn off, they haven't lost 100 lbs. in a month like they had hoped, all the problems in their daily lives haven't gone away along with the pounds... in other words, their lives are really no more perfect than they were before they started and it often leads to being depressed. Or maybe you were just not ready yet to commit to really changing your lifestyle and working on the bad habits that led to weight gain in the first place. Nobody said this would be easy... change is HARD! I get that! I've been working off and on again multiple times over the last 7 years to loose the weight, and I think I've finally gotten to that place in my head where its "clicked". I'm gonna make it this time. Maybe you are not there yet.

You dont HAVE to eat JC foods to loose weight. Any good program that emphasizes lifestyle change (i.e. WW) that you ACTUALLY FOLLOW and put in the effort will help you to loose the weight. But if you aren't really ready to change your life, a few months down the road you'll be complaining on that message board that you are sick of counting points or whatever.

Take care,
Angela

Wait... are we not supposed to salt our food?
emerald_green
You can salt your foods if you like. It doesn't have any calories. Though you have to remember that excess sodium can cause you to retain water, so it may appear that the weight is coming off slower. Also, about 30% of people with hypertention have it due to a sensitivity to sodium. If you have high blood pressure, its best to limit adding salt to your foods.

Take care,
Angela

Nine years here, and still not sick of the food. It is my friend. Through eight years of maintenance, I still come to JC for my convenience food, because it tastes better and is lower in sodium that grocery store stuff.

Sure, I could go back to fast food and dining out, but then I'd be right back where I started. I never want to see those 55 pounds again! That's a lot yuckier than any food, even things I don't like all that much. In fact, eating things I'm not crazy about that fill me up keeps me from wanting a bigger portion, or seconds.

I'm glad you didn't take offense. I used to find myself questioning or criticizing the program instead of looking at what I was doing to slow down my own progress.

This week I decided to mix it up a bit and try a vegetarian JC menu, just to keep things interesting.

Good luck!

Well said !

Brightpink, you say you are tired of the JC food. Are you 100% on the JC food, or has this led to making substitutions or having BLTs (Bites, Licks, & Tastes) of non-program foods? Do you write before you bite when you have anything that doesn't have the JC label on it?

Te reason I ask is because that's what often leads to a plateau and discouragement. After we've been at it for a while, we have a natural tendency to get a little less disciplined in our approach, and it's really a mental plateau rather than a physical one. Go back to basics for a week or two and see if that doesn't turn around. Remember what those first days and weeks felt like, and try to approach what you are doing as though you were brand new again. I find that doing this, and going back to the planned menus, usually jolts me out of any stall. Usually, it turns out that I had just gotten sloppy.

Elaine Pmyfirst two weeks, I lost less than two pounds. It picked up for a while after that, and then I went through a couple of plateaus and a few stalls during the year it took me to lose it. By the end of the year, I had lost over 50 pounds. Hang in there. Follow the food plan, get regular moderate exercise, tend to your mindset, and it will happen for you.

A lot of great advice offered here!! I always tend to wonder if people are just sick of the stucture and use the food as an excuse, and who isn't sick of being overweight??? right??

I've been on the program since the end of March and I can honestly say that I'm not bored with the food. Jazz it up, get that cookbook, think of new veggies you can add to the Chicken Fettucine or the sandwiches or the fajitas. There are so many ways to make the food bigger and different.

I've had a couple of Turkey Chili's in my pantry and finally the other day, I was making taco salad for the kids and I had all the fixings, so I made a Taco salad out of my Turkey Chili. I heated it, tossed it with a bowl of fresh spinach (the only lettuce I use now) crushed up Bruschetta Chips, fat free sour cream, fat free cheddar cheese and salsa and it was AWESOME!! Better than the taco salad with Doritoes my kids were eating!!

Just get a little more creative and you'll do fine.

Good luck!!

Welcome Ronnie! Just be careful you don't eat your faves too often and get sick of them. I find there are a few things I love and could eat a few times a week too, I try to remember I'm only on week 2 and there are still foods I haven't tried.

I purchased the volumazing JC food cookbook...it has a lot of great ideas that I would have never thought of...I have been on JC for 2 1/2 weeks and really am enjoying the food.....tonight I had cashew chicken. I cooked up some additonal water chesnuts, green onions, and bean sprouts and put the mixture in with my JC cashew chicken and wraped it in lettuce wraps....it was a huge portion and delicious!!!!!

When I started JC in July, I decided to try all of their food for the four weeks and see how I liked them. Surprise...I like soup! Still not a big fan of tofu and beans but otherwise it has been good. I keep with the four weeks and only change those foods that I really don't care for. It seems to work for me with the variety. The only thing I eat that are my favorites are the desserts - my reward at night is a cheescake or cake...just get those only! LOL!

A couple of thoughts, for what they are worth:

1) I think having a more "routine" meal plan in some ways will be an asset for me when I eventually get to maintenance. When I was not on Jenny, I spent lots of time trying to think up new and different things to eat, and in the end, I was really never satisfied.

2) I think I was often bored before the program and relied on many of the same stand-bys several times a week. In some ways I eat much more variety now than I did before Jenny.

Stick with it -- it works!!

Although I'm only on week 5, I have been picking my own meals out and have been finding that I am getting some very interesting tidbits here on the message boards to switch things up.
Today I took my chicken sandwich and made a huge spinach salad, melted some f/f mozz on the chicken with some mushrooms sauteed in a tad of Pam, sliced it on top of the salad and turned my bun into garlic toast by spritzing with (yes) a tad of olive oil Pam and then rubbing it with some garlic and fresh oregano. It was so filling and just the right little pick me up!!!
I have found that if I use my brain I am able to satisfy just about any craving with my JC food.
Ohhhhhh...and here's another one for a nice Autumn treat...skim milk, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, truvia(or any other sweetener of choice), a dash of cinnamon and a spoonful of dry (powdered) unsweetened decaf tea!! Shake it all up and pour over ice to satisfy a sweet craving and get in a milk serving! wink.gif YUMMY!!!
Just get the creative juices flowing!!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!
EllenWheels
I've made pumpkin spice lattés using pumpkin pie spice and the sugar-free flavored syrups. I use vanilla. For a little extra treat, you could put a dollop of cool whip free on top.

tongue.gif OMG sounds amazzzzzingly yummmmmmy. I will try.

YUMMY!!!! Thanks Ellen! Gotta try the cool whip. Must have had a blonde moment cause I never thought of that! Thanks!

Before Jenny Craig, I was reading a book (fictional) where the humans ate some nutritious but bland glop three times a day instead of food in order to fuel their bodies. I commented to my partner that life sure would be easier if that was the only choice we had. If we thought of food simply as that, fuel, instead of all the other stuff we have attached to it (pleasure, comfort, love, celebration, status, reward, etc, etc), none of us would be in this state of being overweight!

Fast forward to Jenny Craig -- In a way, Jenny's menu is as close to a "food as fuel" plan as I have ever been on. That's how I try to think of it -- this is what is necessary to keep my body going and healthy and to get me to a weight that is right for my height. And at times, the 6th or 7th salad or veggie serving of the week feels like glop. I try not to think of all that I am missing out on because of the program. Rather, I think of the entrees and snacks that are yummy (which is a good portion of them for me) as a sort of bonus "pleasure" that I didn't expect from my fuel! It helps me keep on the program to change my expectations for what food is in my life.

I love the ideas people have given to volumize in different ways and to mix up the tastes of the foods. It's the mental attitude and the creativity that will let us stay with the program!
