Dear military families,
Reading all these posts from you all makes me really proud. My husband and I retired from the Navy 10 yrs. ago, and currently have one son active duty in the Navy. Deployments with the Navy aren't nearly as stressful as other military branches, but not having husbands, and fathers is something I can relate to. I remember sending my husband, who was floating in the big blue ocean, a pile of my boys favorite books, and he had a walkman (remember those things?) . He went somewhere quiet on the ship and read the books aloud with sound effects and everything. Then when the boys wanted to be read to, I would ask, "Do you wish me or Dad to read to you?" When it was Dad, "which was most of the time, I would just play the tape and they would hear his voice. I know there is computers etc, but listening to Dad read while they would be relaxing in bed was a nice end to the day... Tangible items like a note from Dad, that a child can tuck in his pocket can make all the different in a childs mood. I have been on JC for a short time, and during the holidays my family will hopefully have the eldest son home. The pang of being a military wife is similar to the pang of being a military mom. Annr
