Hi Everyone
Ihave been reading some of the forums and have an appt today to join JC. I have never done this program before but I have been told the food is good. I have a hard time accepting that I have to have someone make my food.
I am 65, still working probably for another year, I live alone so this should not be a problem. My main food problem is portion control and overeating in the evening. I do eat a lot of salad and fruit and like veggies but as soon as I get home I pour a glass of wine get some crackers and then on to dinner and sometimes desert.
So I am hoping that the portions will do the trick and of course no more glass or two of wine every night.
hope i do as well as you guys seem to be doing.

Hi Ladies,

I am 62 and want to lose 20 lbs. I am so thankful to find real people my age who I can relate to. I also like a glass or two of wine in the evening. I have two jobs and deal with arthritis in the back. So it is a real struggle to stay energetic enough to exercise. I try to focus on the bigger picture and know that I want to fit back into my size 8's and 10's but keep thinking how much longer can I actually do all this?

Hi Pat,

I am new to JC too. I started 10/24 and am hoping I can keep my motivation going. My husband is not being supportive so I hope I can depend on the message boards. My 1st goal is to lose 40 lbs then on to 60! I have been sedentary for awhile so I need to get moving.

Hi I just got my food and wonder what to do since I do not like milk. I was raised on farm-fresh whole milk and this stuff they call milk today is like white water. Also I could not find any fat-free and sugar free yogurt. Any sugestions?

Try the Fibre One yogurt. It is incredible, and you can't believe it is only 50 calories.

For milk, try eating cheese..

Good luck!

I do not like milk either so I use the yogurt they say you can have for my milk. I also use to put orange juice in my cereal. I know it sounds weird but it is not half bad. I told the lady I signed up under I did not do milk so she let me get things for breakfast that I did not need milk with and then I would have a yogurt. I just started this past Friday and I am 62 and I am loving the food so far.

Hi everyone. I am 61 and started JC on October 12. I was very concerned about the food since I had tried Nutrisytem a few years ago and could not eat the freeze dried stuff they have. CARDBOARD at best. There is something wrong with having to rehydrate meat! I have been very pleased with the food so far and I am in the midst of week 4. I used the planned menus and next week I will be planning my own. It's amazing how much you eat. I am really getting into the volumizing. I am lucky, my husband is being very supportive which is a huge help. I cook something for him or if we go out I save my salad and a veg and eat that while he eats what he wants. I'm curious to see if he loses anything since we are not eating out nearly as much. Why is it so much easier for men to lose! wink.gif

I feel bad for you that your husband is not being supportive that is so important!! Sounds as if he may have some issues with you starting on your path to looking great!

hi everyone,
i just joined jc today and feel pretty good about it like the post i just read from the woman who says she will die this time if this doesn't work is the same for me..i am on oxygen 24/7 and am 65 years old..had a major suirgery in july for a paralyzed diaphram the was literally moving up to my chest and throat and blocking of my air...i will probably always ne o2 especially at night, but if i get the weight off i may be able to get of the oxygen in the day..i weigh 204 lbs and my goal is set for 150....the doc said 160, but i think he said that so i wouldn't make the loss seem to hard on myself...well, it is hard..i have tried everything from sb to ww to nutisystem ugh yucckie and even diet center in my forties..a lot of money and just never ready...well i want die later rather than soon so i believe all we go through is never wasted and yes we know how to eat right, but, the big but t i never stayed on anything for long although on sb i lost 27lbs, but again got sidetracked...well this time i am doing it for me.....i lost a brother and a sister this year and last year, he was 65 at the time a year older than me, and my sis was 69 too young for them both to go.. well i went on a long time because i think i am staying with the over 60's group..it is nice to be with people my age..the woman who took care of me today at jc was 63, but my counselor looks to be in 30's - 40's i hope it will work out with her, but i don't meet with her until next thurs. although i did meet her briefly today...so here we all grow again in a new year..i wish all of us a happy weight loss and healthy new year..thank you for listening carol fuller

Hi everyone. I am on my 3rd day here at JC. I am 66 and need to lose at least 40 lbs. I too have been sendentary. I retired 3 yrs ago and I just sit at my computer and play games. I bought "The Biggest Loser" for my Wii but I haven't started using it yet.

So far the food has been pretty good and because I am pretty much eating all day I am not feeling hungry or deprived. I don't drink milk but my counselor said I could substitute string cheese. I have always eaten very little because living alone I rarely cooked so I am actually eating a lot more food now.

If any of you live in the Los Angeles area let me know and we can be buddies.

Hi, Pat, I joined on the 6th. So far it's been great and I'm 3.5 pounds lighter. I'm 71 and still working parttime. I also live alone. I'm really happy to have my food decisions made for me right now. This gives me time to adjust and to begin some new eating habits. The hard part of the dy for me has always been late afternoon into the evening. That's when the cravings hit, and frankly, the free foods just don't cut it. I've found that by putting lunch a little later - between 1 and 1:30 - there's less of a time span until dinner and I'm more comfortable. I've enjoyed all the foods I've had so far and was surprised that the typical sugar withdrawal I usually experience when I change my eating, was not bad at all. And I'm certainly not humgry so far.

I'm looking forward to using this forum for support and I'm here to give it back too.

Betty

I've found this to be a wonderful program and the forums have incredibly supportive people.

At 61 I discovered that I had two issues:
portion control
sedentary life style.

I needed to address both, but started with portion control.
Jenny is a marvelous tool for that. it is simple, measured, balanced and tastes really good.

After losing the first 20 over about 3 months, I went after the second issue, sitting around too much.
I work in an office at a computer, spend a lot of time sitting on airplanes and have a metabolism that is slowing with age.
So, in addition to Jenny, I added the bodybugg which tracks your daily calorie expenditure. Upped my calorie burn from 1400 per day at rest to 2200 a day by moving a lot more --
Now, 5 months later, I am down another 28 pounds and at a BMI that hovers around 21.

I feel great, am well below my goal.

This is a wonderful program. We all have to quit looking for excuses and quick fixes.
Every pound you lose is a great achievement.
Every healthy meal you eat on the way is a step in the right direction.
Steps in any direction are a great thing -- keep moving. (I got my Mom and Dad a DVD that lets them do pilates like moves while sitting in a chair since they were worried about balance).

Some people make this journey slowly and some quickly -- but the important thing is just making the journey.

You can do it!!!!!

Hi, I am 66 and joined Jenny Craig, 5 weeks ago. So far, I am down 11 #. Given my age and having Grave's, I don't expect to lose like a spitfire. Slow is preferable for me. I enjoy the program very much, certainly takes the guesswork out of what to eat and instructs portion control as well as healthy food choices. Every now and then, I will match a grocery food entree as close to the JC nutrition stats as possible(sometimes, even better), if I want to keep JC costs down slightly during a 'budget challenged" week, and still I have lost weight every single week since being on the program. I never have substituted foods more than two or three times and I don't recommend that others do this, just because it works for me. I really love JC and the support I receive from my JCC at my centre. Best wishes and success to everyone in our special group! wink.gif

Hola New JC Members! I just finished scanning the latest posts from my fellow over 60's peeps and all I have to say is "Jefferson Airplane Loves You!" ... ah, the 1960's were so much fun - I think we will have even more adventure living in our age 60's!

I have and still am seriously overweight, but it is getting better each day using the JC food plan ... I hope ya'll keep posting on this thread sharing your experiences so we may learn and lean on one another.
