Jenny Craig > Welcome > Thinking about joining?

I just found this site and have been reading some of the pros and cons to the JC system. I went yesterday for an appt. and am a little confused about what to do. First she said the price was 399, then it went to 319, then it went to 199 cause she said she could give me friends and family. That was for the premium plan. Then I asked about the 20/20 and because I have 50+ lbs to lose, I really should lose 70 or 80 but said I would be happy with 60 she said that I should do the year.
I am afraid that I will not like the food. I am pretty picky. I do like veggies thou. My main problem is portion control, I eat pretty well now just too much. I also have a problem accepting that I am so weak that I need to have someone give me food and i can't do it myself.
Any thoughts. I know this forum will be helpful to me.
Should I do the year or just try the 20/20.
thanks
Pat

In my opinion, the Premium plan is a much better deal because it comes with a halfway support and a maintenence plan. It pays for itself in support and results. I only had about 15-17 lbs. to lose but I signed up for the Premium plan because I know that once I lose the weight, I will still need help. How many times have we lost and regained because we thought we were out of the woods?

If you are unsure about the food, try the 20/20. I don't know if your consultant will be able to offer you the same deal on the sign up fee at a later date. It would be good to know that ahead of time.

The food is very good, but I am not a picky eater. Those people that are picky can choose to make a personalized menu. You get to design it with whatever food you like. They also have planned menus where you eat what has been predetermined by the dieticians.

One of the strengths of the program is that it does teach you portion control. That is a benefit to you regardless of which program you choose.

Good Luck.

I think it depends upon how badly you want to lose the weight. If you are so picky that you are afraid there will be too much food you will refuse to eat, you will be better off to go with WW or TOPS.

I have found that the program was good for me in that it got me eating a wider variety of food. I didn't love everything, but there weren't more than a few things that I disliked enough that I was unwilling to eat them. In fact, having things that weren't favorites made it easier to avoid over-eating. I learned all kinds of ways to make the things I didn't like as much, more palatable, and some of them even became favorites.

I've always been pretty discriminating about the quality of the food I eat. I found that attitude is everything. If you go into it with the preconceived notion that you won't like the food, you won't. If you go into it thinking that you can take off the weight and keep it off with the intro programs, you will be mistaken.

In spite of my doubts, I did join the program, and I paid $400 for it. It took me about a year to lose 55 pounds, and I have kept it off for over eight years. I'm glad I went into it with the attitude that I was willing to do whatever it took to do it. That included the prospect of eating food that I wasn't always wild about. Instead of being the center of my life, food became fuel for my body, with an occasional meal that I was wild about. The less important food became to me, the more I started enjoying life.

The truth in all of this is that you can do what you tell yourself you can do. It's possible to find dozens of excuses for not doing it, and that's all they are: Excuses. If you go into it with an open mind, the truth is that tastes in food change over time, but they can't change if you don't try and if you don't give it a chance.

if you did the 20/20 they can then convert you over to premium plan. But if you join premium now, pretty sure it offers $50 off first week food, and then halfway another discount on food, and then when you reach maintenance you get a refund of like half of what you paid, something like that.

I am a PICKY eater, big time, it was hard to go "processd foods", I spent 8 months on ww, and the past year totally reading up on organics, and all natural and staying away from certain sugars in foods/bread etc... But you know what I joined JC because it was an investment in me, I figured out my grocery spend and eating out over the past 8 months and figured buying JC food wasn't much more than what i was spending, and I needed the discpline of portioned out meals, I cook for one, so it was hard with leftovers, i am not a big leftover person and threw alot of food out, and also always snuck more portions into my day... so I LOVE, love that i don't have to think about anything just pull my meal outs, stick to plan, which I was never a PLANNER just spontaneous eater, so now I have scheduled my eating during the day and it helps!!! I love the one on one consultant rather Group like WW.

So it's a choice what will work for you.

Do yourself a BIG FAVOR. Do the 20 for 20. Really. You'll be able to try most of the food and if you hate it, you're not out a ton of money. Don't let them talk you into anything more. The expensive deal will be around in 2 weeks or 4 weeks, or whenever you choose to sign up.

As for accepting help, well, everyone needs help and support in life. If weight loss were easy, well, there'd be alot of thinner people around and no weight loss "industry" --- really, would you accept help changing a tire? You may know how to do it, but isn't it great to have help too?

I started with the 20for $20 because I wasn't sure, but in my third week (I think!) decided to go for the full year as I had had the chance to try it out and was very pleased with the food and the way the program works.

Let me first say....do it! It is the most wonderful plan. It is so easy to follow and worth every penny. I LOVE the food and my husband even tried it and said "Wow, you aren't getting bad food" I love to shove it in his face cause he is trying to decide too and isn't sure about how he will like the food. Just know that when you are deciding on what to eat; if it sounds like something that you would normally order on a menu, try it. It is like you are getting a nice meal from a restaurant. After making it, put it on a nice dish and make it look presentable to you. You will realize it is just as good as what you get in any restaurant...And I LOVE to eat out! i get desserts and treats that are just enough for me to say "wow, I am so not missing out on anything". Everytime I plan my menu's, I sit there and quickly think to myself of how fortunate I am to have Jenny Craig. I would rave to anyone about how great it is! You get great food and it's like having a personal chef because there is so little work. Your portions are all set, so no worries on measuring or thinking about too much. I am a mother of 5, so my days are busy. All that I have to make time for is checking my menu and bringing anything with me (if I am going to be out for the day); or just checking it every few hours to see what new treat I get to dip into. I actually feel like I am eating more, since I eat less, but more often. I never worry about "did I eat enough, is that going to fill me up" like I did the first day. Because I am eating so often, I always feel fine and know that I will never be FULL or STARVED...I will just always feel satisfied. I love that. It is also teaching me how to know portions. I know that i had an idea that I ate too much before, but this is getting me into the practice (because I do eat out once in a while and they have guides to help you with that) of eating the right amount of food. It's great! DO IT! There is no way you will regret it! Don't even worry about it! You will feel so spoiled! Get those neat recipe books too; they help make their normal dishes feel even bigger and better! Get the eating out guide and the recipe book that shows how to do "volumetrics".
Good luck! ...and take care!

Hi Pat,
Yes the smartest thing to do when unsure is to do the 20/20. I did that and I continue to use that same item, 20/20. I've dropped 50lbs using it. They just don't get enough commision if you don't do the higher programs. When you first start up on the 20/20 program only buy one weeks worth of food to start out with, that way if you don't like it, you don't lose much money. Anyway that's what I did and it still works for me, my consultant works with me on this because I have a limited income right now. Just food for thought.

Just to clarify, a consultant's paycheck comes mainly from food commission . Your consultant makes the same amount of money whether you are on the Premium Plan or the 20/20 plan. The program fee is a ONE TIME FEE, the commission your consultant makes on it is about $12! Seriously the money isn't the driving force. The reason you are encouraged to do the Premium Plan is that it is a much better deal! You pay the initial cost but with all the rebates it ends up being free! With the 20/20, you have to shell out $20 every 10 weeks without getting anything back. Not only that but statistically people are more successful and stick to it longer if they join the Premium Program.

If you are unsure if you will like the food then sure, start out with the 20/20 but if you do decide the Jenny Craig is for you, the Premium Plan is a GREAT deal. It will save you money in the long run.

I did go with the premium plan and got the 50 off the food the first week. I like all the food except the one breakfast bar that made my sick to my stomach. I weighed for the second time yesterday and lost a total of 5.5 lbs. During those two weeks I had two parties and had some wine.
This week I am back to no events so it should be better and I am eliminating the wine.
I did stop buying the breakfasts and I am eating oatmeal most days. and I don't do the anytime bars or the soupizier.
The first week I met with a woman that I later found out was the mgr and the second I was assigned to someone else. I would have liked for them to explain that.
But, my consultant seems ok, I do feel rushed at the meeting. Everyone at the center is very nice and friendly so it is going ok.
I do like reading all the information here on the boards.

I did the 20/20 and lost 50lbs in just 3 months while I was still on the 20/20. And when my time was up on that plan I again did the 20/20 and I keep doing it, it's good for 4 months.
Lori_s-1958
I am working on shedding nearly 100 pounds. I have done WW so long with losing and gaining that I needed to change something. I need the ease and the portion control.
I have found even the foods I thought I wouldn't like very good, and the instructions on preparation on the boxes make the food stand out from what is in the stores. If I'm gonna have to eat "out of the box" it better taste good.
You can elect to have a choice and they will show you the menu before they get it.
Either way, best of luck and success! biggrin.gif
