60 and a NEWBIE....can you believe it? But it's reassuring to see others in the same position as I am. I'm past the stage of beating myself up for getting to this age and carrying all this weight. My focus now is to set a new direction for the rest of my life....a healthier....thinner direction! It would be nice to meet others headed in the same direction.

Hi Stan! Its so awesome that you are here! Better late than never right?

Ive been on the JC plan for 6 weeks now, I have found it totally easy to follow, and the food is delicious!
The people on these forums are really nice too! I have found it really helpful to keep me motivated. My husband is great, but he's not on JC. (Though he's very jealous of some of the foods he's seen me eating! LOL) All these people are doing the EXACT same thing, or they have already done it.

How much weight are you trying to lose?

Dear Stan, as our currently only man in this thread, you my friend shall become a god ... can you still drive after dark? If the answer is "yes" why then that alone qualifies you as an Adonis! Seriously, which I never am, no really, I welcome your testosterone to our estrogen or what is left of it ... personally, if I didn't tweeze daily I do believe I could grow a dandy goatee ...

Yes, Stan, welcome! By all means, finid a thread or two and become a member and regular poster on a daily basis. That has been what has truly helped me stay focused and on plan! Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome Stan, I'm not into the 60's yet so I'm squeaking in, I am 50. That was funny what you said there babybing, you always such a kidder, you make me smile. Stan I always had trouble getting my last meal in also, my counselor beat me up over that, I guess just try to put a snack with a meal? Ask if that helps?

Thanks for the encouraging response! I kind of feel like I'm the only man in the world doing Jenny Craig, although I did find a men's message board here as well. Add to it my age, and it presents a whole different set of challenges. Several of my friends think I have completely lost my mind because I'm attempting this at 61, but if losing the weight will give me a better quality of life as I age, then that's what I need to do. I want to lose at least 70 pounds within the next year, for no other reason than to protect my health.

It's great to be part of such a supportive group!! biggrin.gif

TOOOOOOOO funny Suzanne! I do still drive after dark...only because I work 3rd shift and have to!! The testosterone if dwingling rapidly I suspect. Although who knows, maybe with weight loss the hormones will balance out again?? Hey...they say 60 is the new 50.....and who wouldn't love to gain those 10 years back? I don't want to be 50 again....just want to "feel" 50.

Well so far the response from this message board, and one "for men" has been truly encouraging. I know a lot of my success on this plan will come from the support of good people like you.....so thanks in advance!

Thanks Kathy!!
I appreciate the advice. My challenge is that I'm working 3rd shift now, after working days all my professional life, and the eating regimen is completely opposite of what it was when I worked days. I know if I was living a "normal" life I could manage all the food. I just need to find a way to do it in this "abnormal" phase of my life. My counselor has made some suggestions on how to fit all the food in, so I'll give them a try and see what happens. It's only week two for me, so I have a long way to go to get it right!!

Dear Stan, my husband had to have emergency heart surgery and while he wasn't extremely overweight, it was suggested that he lose 36 pounds. He went directly to Jenny Craig and darn if that rascal didn't hit his goal on 3 months exactly becoming the poster boy at his surgeons office. Since then, now 5 years, he has kept if off and he walks 6 days a week on the treadmill without fail.

Darn men, they age so much nicer than do women (IMO) so he is lookin' pretty darn sharp for a guy 61 - just like you:)) For whatever reason men seem to lose the weight faster than do women so you will be finished before you know what hit you! Jenny has it all, the food tastes very good, the support system is superior and the cost is relative. Pretty good deal - I think you will be pleased with your results.

Ok, I can't help it, I'm put my ticker in at the halloween challenge, but I'm gonna brag again, na na.

Hello, Stan, and welcome! I've seen more than one guy waiting for his counselor in the local Jenny Craig. One told me he'd lost 56 pounds and was just four pounds from goal weight.

I know you'll have success on the program. It's the best weight loss plan I've found and I gotta add that I've been to a lot of them. smile.gif

Yes, a man can lose on this program. I'm a 67 year old man and have been a member of JC off and on since the '90s. I once lost over 150 pounds on the program. Unfortunately, I put most of it back on. I have lost 25 pounds since I returned to the program this time with a lot to go.
