Being a 60 year old trapped in a 20 year old brain, it is lonely here on this board! We need more people posting! There has to be more than just a few of us...

Say hello!

Say how you're doing!

Say anything!

Just say something....

Come and keep me company!

Hi Barbara,
Well I just turned 60 this past December and I know what you mean. A 60 year old trapped in this way to big 60 year old body but the brain of a 20 year old. I just joined Jenny this past Monday and can't wait to get to my next appointment next Tuesday. I have a lot to lose but I know I'm worth it. So I'm on my way.

Hey Darlene - welcome JC! I am sure you will like the food and the plan - look at MudMouse's weight loss record - she is amazing:)) It is just a week after week of steady 2ish pounds lost and man, the end of the month and you have lost another 10 pounds. Now, that not only shows but you feel so much better. Tell us a bit about your goals - My 1st goal is to be 299.4 tee hee - which I will be very close to BY THE END OF DECEMBER! That's if I work very hard and ully stay in the 1,200 calories a day.

If you can get any kind of movement in it is a great help in dropping the weight, this is my problem as I am so limited as to what I can do. I am just starting to work with 1 & 2 LBS weights for upper body strengthening. I would love to ride a bike later on when I have become a skinny 299.4 person!

Now this is cool - real people responding!

Glad you're here, Darlene. Keep us posted on your first week's loss. I remember wishing I was one of the people who dropped 8 pounds the first week, and was actually disappointed with just 4! I was dumb...

This has been a tough week for me. Two days out and off Jenny. I'm hoping that the scale won't go up, but we will see what Monday brings! I honestly think that the exercise is what makes me lose. I eat carefully, but the exercise puts the icing on it.

I am finding it strange that while I still crave the old stuff, it isn't as often, and when I gave in to the donuts on Wednesday, I am still feeling off. LOL - my body is making me healthy in spite of myself..

Good luck on your journey, Darlene. It's nice to know you.

Hi Everyone!
Well I'm back. Just slow getting to the computer but had my first week weigh in yesterday and lost 3.5 lbs. So far the program has been great and the food is good. I still haven't got into the physical activity mode yet but I know I will get there. I have my son's wedding next April and want something nice to wear on that special day. I've got the support from my spouse and he's eating TV dinners at night with me when I eat Jenny's dinners. I feel guilty for not cooking but he said not to worry. He's trying to compliment my meals with frozen meals that are similar. I do whip us up some veggies and a nice salad so a little preparation in the kitchen. It's just the two of us so it makes it much easier. I do hope everyone is having a great week and I'll check in here weekly with everyone. It's great the support we have here and this time I'm going to succeed. I'll keep you posted.

My Starting Weight was 231.4

Give me strength for this week! My cousin is coming in for 3 days, and it will mean 3 days of eating out. I have great ideas of how successful I will be, and right now, I think I'll make the right choices... but ****! I'm nervous!

I'm determined to ride my butt off while she's here. Here's hoping that will help the hidden restaurant calories that will lurk in my meal..

I have started to keep track of my miles on the stationary bike and put them on google earth. I am biking from just west of Toronto, Ontario where I live to New York City. Once I get there, I might check out Long Island, and maybe go on to Washington... who knows where I will pretend to go after that! Right now, I have left Canada, and I'm somewhere around Rochester, NY. I'll keep you posted on my cyber travels!

I am also knitting dishcloths. I am fascinated with them - some circular, some square, and all have different patterns, depending on the mood I'm in. I've done everything from a hot pink skull and crossbone for my daughter to a lighthouse, to a reindeer for Christmas, to a beautiful butterfly and on... Makes me feel connected to people who did this eons ago and used them cause they didn't have a store to run to. It also helps my fingers not miss my mouth..

Come and check back, and keep us posted on how you're doing. It is nice to have someone to do this journey with.

Count me in! I'm a 67 year old man who just rejoined JC last week. Just came back from my weekly weighin and I lost 8 pounds! Love that 1st week! If only the other to follow would be that easy!

BTW the Men's Support Board is very inactive. Of course they don't really market to men for some reason although I see other men at my JC center.

Hello all my baby-boomer buddies-

I too am enjoying the over sixty group...social security puts a nice chunk in my pocket each month...which has provided me the opportunity to join JC. I was a member when the program first came into being. I was young and just recouperating from surgery...and extra weight due to it. I lost 35 pounds in the blink of an eye...met my DH and went on the whirlwind dating scene. Now 20 years later as the saying goes "it's back"! I love these boards and the great information I find here. I had been having a slow go for a couple of weeks but my last WI finally showed "I'm back"

Wishing each of you all the luck in working this program. The program does work...if you let it.

I will be looking forward to coming back here to see your updates.

Take care all and have a wonderful weekend! biggrin.gif

DIGBY - hey, welcome and EIGHT pounds the first week, oh boy - you are fonna shame us all teehee:)) I take it you are a dog person, me too. Standard Poodles, the really big boys. Right now we have our first lady dog - "May'B" she is a tad smaller than our boys were but she sleeps in bed with us and is big enough to crowd us out as she tends to spread like warm jello as the night progresses and we have to chase her off LOL.

Cath - hi and glad to have you join us - now we got a group goin' here! I had my toncild taken out in Evergreen Park! Love Chicago! You will drop that 35 pounds in nothing flat 0 the food is so improved from when you were last here. Do you remember when there was a REAL steak and the Plum Chicken? I think they only had 3-4 frozen meals and the rest you had to shake and bake yourself! We actually lived by Jenny Craig herself when she was in Del Mar, CA delivering diet meals directly to people's homes!

This last week turned out to be a whole lot harder than I actually thought it would be. Eating out every meal for 3 days sucks! Today, I went back on the plan, and I have to tell you - I was so glad to eat Jenny stuff that it just made me smile. I had to weigh in right in the middle of the whole being out thing, and was lucky enough to only gain 1.4 pounds. I was surprised how eating off Jenny affected my entire digestive system. If I'd been able to go to the bathroom, I don't think I would have gained anything! I know, I know - too much information!

It's nice to be back on the plan...

Here I am! Im Sallee. Im 64 years old and a lifetime yo yo dieter. Ive been using Jenny Craig since April 12. Im loving everything about the program! I had 40 pounds to loose (I might add another 10 when I get there) I have reached my half way point, 20 lbs. I must say, this was not that hard. I did Jenny Craig 20 years ago and I was hungry and obsessed with food the whole time. This time the food is more than adequate and delicious! I love the big salads I make for myself. Lots of really good lettuce, not the cut up kind that comes in a bag. All sorts of real veggies; carrots, cherry tomatoes, jicama, cucumbers. I even throw a little fruit in.
Here is my claim to fame: I started Jenny Craig when I was laid up with a broken ankle. The ankle stopped my life. I couldnt be in denial any more. I was stuck in bed with the TV for company. There was an Oprah episode where Valerie Bertinelli showed off her new body in a bikini, I was so ready to deal with this problem, that it was just the kick in the pants I needed. I called that day and set myself up for the Jenny Direct. Thats the one that they mail the food to you and give your consultations by phone. It was the perfect solutions for someone who was home bound.
Im writing a blog about my experience of doing Jenny with a broken ankle. It includes some of the pearls of wisdom I have gained from this experience. Here is the address:

Sallee - half way - how amazing~

You mentioned Valerie as your inspiration. Gotta tell you - for me, it was Ruby. I started watching her first season, and the more I watched her on her journey, the more I realized that if she can do this, so can I. I can beat my beast too. She is the kindest person - she has written me, and her encouragement is such a .. well just that, encouragement. Whenever I want to give up, I get on my exercise bike, and turn on Ruby on the Tivo. It gives me that extra push I need to keep in there. Strange - I can't stray cause of a woman I've never met. But I'll take her hacky encouragement any day!

Darlene, that's wonderful. I've lost a total of 28 pounds and still going strong. When I eat out, I know what choices I can make, without going off program. If I slip up, I get back on track. My friends have been very supportive which is so important. My family always offers encouragement. I know how tempting those sweets are, but Jenny Craig snacks are so delicious and satisfying. I love the S'mores bars. smile.gif

Not 60 yet but what the hey- coming up to 56 in Oct.

I am struggling a bit with emotions today and just reading the forums for a bit of encouragement.
My sister is ill - she's a big girl, like me - and she doesn't want to follow doctors directions. Since she's my elder, she doesn't cotton to gentle urging much less directives. So I'm praying she'll let me take her back to the doctor tomorrow if she's not better.

Meantime, it doesn't mean I have to eat stuff I shouldn't just because I am feeling an onslaught of emotions!
Wonder why I would want to sabotage myself anyhow? In 8 weeks, I've lost 14 lbs and 15 inches! I really am doing great.... and must keep it up!

Think I'll make a cup of hot tea and get a JC snack. And drink some more water.

Best to all,

Jane

Ditto on the Smore's bars and all the chocolate yummies. I didnt realize how important chocolate is to me. Since I can have a bit everyday, my body doesnt think it is being deprived. Since it is doled out by the day Im not in danger of gobbling down a whole bag of candy or whatever. It will be interesting to see how I learn deal with this once I reach my goal. I know Im going to want to have a bit of chocolate. But Im worried about having a whole bag around. Im sure JC will teach me how to deal with this.
Sallee
Good for you for staying the course. Your sister will be much more impressed by what you are doing than what you are saying. Hang in there!

Dear Salle,
Well my problem is eating out and this week I really tried to stay home and do Jenny. If I did eat out which I did I tried to make a more conscious efffort what I ordered instead of going crazy. My spouse who is very supportive even said if we were going to do a desert which I know is not on Jenny we shared it. Something I would have not done before. I love my sweets. I just tried to be conscious of what I was doing when it came to meals. Also a neighbor invited us over for dinner and she said why don't you just bring your Jenny meal over and they also had some lean cusine dinners that she prepared for her spouse and my spouse and she had made a salad to go with our microwave dinners. We laughed but it was a first having people over with microwave frozen dinners. It worked out fine and I didn't feel guility one bit. So have a great week Salle!!!!

Hi Darlene,
It sounds like you were able to creatively deal with these challenges. How wonderful that your husband and neighbor wanted to support your weight loss plan. I have only been out for dinner once, on my husband's birthday. The restaurant had some healthy choices. But there was still too much food. So I ate half, and then told the waiter to take my plate away. I would have nibbled the rest while we were chatting.
I didnt realize how much I like having sweets. The little morsels that are a part of the JC plan are just enough to satisfy that need. I will need some help from my counselor when it comes time to have a 'day on my own'. I dont want to have more than a serving or two of the sweets around my house. But I do want the sweets.

Glad you're hanging out here, Jane. And hope your big sis gets feeling better. Not many sit home real sick w/o wanting the doctor to fix it. But, I have told my hubby that you can't wait til you only have a week to live and then tell the doc to fix it. That's the way this Jenny program is. We want Jenny to help us 'fix it'. She does a good job. Maybe your sis will see your dramatic size change and envy enuf to follow suit. If it doesn't look hard... and you aren't starving.... and you're encouraged and encouraging.... good luck! You have done marvelous with the weight AND inches!!! That rocks.

I'm on the forever Jenny plan... 1 year and 4 months. I have dropped 5 clothes sizes - total 40+ inches! This is a good thing! All my friends think I have lost 100 lbs. - not. ghee.... I musta' been huge looking! You think? About as huge as I felt. But, the inches are the best part! The size changes make you feel motivated and good. You'll do it too!

It was such great feeling to go into the clothes shop and NOT know what size I was. I've been using the resale shop to take the b-i-g clothes to. I actually went in there to buy clothes... since my body looked bad in those baggies (know what I mean?). Thought I could afford myself with the consignment clothes. Well, I'm selling mine as I go. Pert near made as much money as what I've bought.

I did find something interesting this summer -- that only I could tell: We had so much company and it's been extremely difficult to follow Jenny. The 'regular cooking' has more fat and salt content. duh! I can tell that my body puffed up. Jenny sure does teach us a new way of eating. After all the Jenny food-retraining this 1 year and 4 months -- I found there is more to learn. I will not be a Krysty Alley. I will not!

good luck!

Oh, Jane, I can so relate to what you've told us. My sis is 51. Eats compulsively, overweight, has asthma, and smokes. My other siblings and I are so worried for her, but all we can do is encourage her to stay away from those dangerous foods, and not to give up on quitting those cigarettes.

That all aside, I guess I am really vulnerable too when it comes to eating out. So many delightful temptations, but so far, I'm doing good. I also portion food by pushing aside all those huge portions.

It's great to read everyone's posts. We're in this together! wink.gif

Hello to Everyone! Not "Jello" sorry, sorry, spell check didn't catch it, nor did I - felt so silly when I read that blooper! OK, has anyone here experienced this: I have reached some strange to me place ... I am NO LONGER HUNGRY! I mean, I have to really force myself to eat just 3 JC's without augmenting them. Is this like a "runner's high" I have read about, where suddenly the act of running produces a burst of a high sensation? I was hungry when I first began even cardboard sounded good to me on June 5th but now, I am eating right around 800 calories, no snack, and I don't want to eat anything at all. I'm going with it! I have never felt like this and my weight is just literally falling off of me - my previously ottoman sized butt has shrunk! I am very close to having lost 50 pounds in just 8 weeks. I just had a full blood panel run last week so all that checked out fine ... I don't know what the deal is but I am for now going with it.

I love reading all the posts and want to get to know everyone so I don't forget to log in every day. I spend a lot of time at my computer and sharing here is certainly better for all of us than playing Solitaire for hours. Thank you for starting this string. I am a returning 65 year old and have lost 19 lbs very, very very slowily. I had polio as a child and am limited with my physical activity but I can walk with my walker so long as it is not too hot. Differnce of more than 30 degrees from this last time last week for us here in Seattle and the greater King County area. Once I learn how to add my picture, I will put one of my "Red Hatters" pictures up. Have a great day everyone.

I agree- I do want to get my exercise in but not faint- so I walk in the mall. I go to ends where there is less traffic and do loops, or in office buildings. At work now I am taking the stairs- going slowly, but going. Dropped 3 lbs last week, which is the most I've lost in a week in the 10 I've been on the program.

thanks all for the encouragement re: my sis - she can be downright cranky
we had a good moment yesterday when i told her about my weigh in and how i wished i could share my success with mom, who passed away in Dec 06. she reassured me that mom is proud of me "up there"
Babybing2002
Attention Salle: more important than any other weight question is - what's your doggie's name? Must be a very special baby for you to post a picture of the two of you together! I want a name! Our baby is a white, Standard Poodle named "May'B" - yeah, we lost our two "big boys" that we'd had for 15 years (Brick Honey & Drummer Boy) brothers born a year apart and when we lost Drum, I like to have died myself. I went into such a funk of pain, like losing your best friend.

So, after some time had past DH and I began saying things like ... "well, maybe if we found one ... " or "maybe some day we will" ... so one Saturday he drove 200 miles each way to go take a look at an 18 month old who the owner no longer wanted as the poor thing had never gone into season, so she was worthless to her (can you say Puppy Mill?) well, DH walks into the house with this poor dog who looked just like an old, gray string mop and said to me " I brought "Maybe" home with me ... " she had a complete makeover, we all know how great a new hairdo makes you feel and poodles are the only dogs who know the value of a good haircut, some bows in her fluffy ears, a new collar, nails painted black and she looked like a million bucks. She now sleeps in bed between us and we spoil her rotten teehee.

OK, everyone have a great Jenny week!

suzanne who loves dogs & kitties too!
MudMouse
Dogs - They are my babies! We have 4 of 'em. A golden retreiver (Sandy), an Australian shepherd border collie cross (Casey), a wheaton terrier (Bailey) and a 5 pound teeny tiny black poodle (Bo), who has never had a pom pom in her entire life. She looks like a little ball of fluff. She used to be a mini poodle, but I was told she is too small, so they have changed her and given her an entirely new identity as a teacup poodle. Bo rules the roost. She lets the big dogs know when they should bark, and keeps them in line. Interesting dynamics.. And they don't talk back like kids do..

Monday is usually my weigh day, and I feel like this week has been a waste of Jenny time! I work out each day, and last month, I missed two days in total. This week, I've missed 3 days already. I am not thrilled! Eating out when you're on the Jenny plan is always a challenge, and this week has been crazy. Starting yesterday, I'm back on just Jenny, and much happier. Now I will just do my usual and stress completely about how much weight I gained back and counting the seconds till Monday at 10:00 a.m.

Dear MM - I would just love to have a tiny or small poodle. Once we had a small dog from the shelter and one of the gentle giants would lay down on floor so she could nip his nose as it was the only part of his body she could get her tiny mouth around:)) He was such a loving guy. I loved the way they would sneak into our bed at night, one by one - gently testing a spot on the bed to see if a human was in the way before settling in and then shortly after his brother would repeat the same careful not to disturb us search for his place to sleep, it was so cozy. Most of the time I like the dogs better than people:))

How do I get that tracker I see some of you use? Looks like fun! Lost 3 lbs this week and Dr. has reduced a couple of my meds which is my greatest encouragement to date. I want to be strong and healthy so I can watch my grandkids grow up. I do a lot of scrapbooking and have chosen my albums as a way to tell my life's story for the next generations. Only consistent thing about me is a strong tendency to be inconsistent and I hope being accountable and sharing with all of you will help bring us all to better health. Going scrapbooking all day tomorrow so won't check in until Sunday. Weather is much cooler and we may actually get some rain for our parched lawns, trees and shrubs.

Nanakate - I wish I knew more about scrapbooking as I am interested in learning how to do this myself but I am such a tech challenged spaz - can you believe I could NOT understand out how to use this wonderful camera we bought so you know what I bought? A Fisher-Price Point and Click camera for THREE YEAR OLDS! It works GREAT! Now I recently got a very cool video camera with all of the editing, sounds etc, titles for 8 YO;s from Crayola!

OOak - in here! This is da place you were looking for!

OK - I found you. Thanks for the directions. I am somewhat challenged in the way of technology and while it takes me a bit when I finally get it I've got it.

Thanks for inviting me in. I relate to the "being 60 trapped in a 20 year old body" (though mine is more like 32 years old). I was 32 when I reached my "ideal" weight. I even managed to maintain it for about an hour an a half. tongue.gif

I want to get there again and with the help of my family and new found friends I will.

Welcome ooak, glad to have you and your sharing. I have no idea who that woman in the mirror is or what she did with my "real" body. "I have decided to get healthy and strong" is my new mantra.

"BTW, I lived in El Dorado and then Augusta for twenty-plus years." Holy smokes TheirGram - you were a neighbor! Where are you now and how long ago did you manage to escape from here?

You know the best part? Even when it is late, and I'm letting the dogs out for the last time, I know I can sign onto the boards while they are messing about out there, and I can find something new. Most forum's in websites are nowhere near as active as the Jenny boards. It's nice to find people who understand, and who support you on your crazy journey to avoid all the things you want to eat (What I wouldn't give for a big piece of chocolate layer cake right about now!)

Knowing I'm not alone, and knowing that there are other 60ish's out there helps a whole bunch. What a treat you all are..

Just got home from my Monday weigh in, and it is now twice that I have not lost weight each week. Knowing why doesn't help, but I do understand... Having two birthdays in the family this week, 3 dinners out, and not having time to do my regular exercise routing, what can I expect.. It just doesn't make me very happy. And it isn't even a whole pound! But I will go down next week!

Jenny says it right ... if you follow the plan, you will lose weight. Guaranteed. And the fact that I eat cake out, and then go home and go right back on the Jenny plan is a good thing, but it isn't enough to make me lose.. It just keeps me from gaining 3 pounds in one week. Why is it so hard to get the pounds off and so crazy easy to gain them!

I am almost finished with summer guests and family visits... I get to be back where I want to be, and I get to bike my getting littler butt off..

I used to hate it when Doctor's were right... Jenny is fitting into that category now! I know... do what they say, and this will work! It's just more fun to eat ice cream cones..

YIPEE - da MudMouse" is in da house! Hey, I saw what I thought was a dead mouse in my bathroom which I promptly reported excitedly to my DH who assimed his male warrior role and proceeded to check this information out ... I felt so foolish when he announced that it was nothing more than a Ficus tree leave that had fluttered to the floor. Several days later, about 3" from my chair at the desk, again I see yet another :dead mouse ... " well, can't fool me twice. I just left that sucker stay there all day long when the DH returns home from a hard day in the slt mines and asks me why I have left "THE DEAD MOUSE" sit right by me without noticing it ...

Why did a mouse run/walk toward a human when he was clearly ill? Was he coming to me for help? CPR? Or was he just scampering along and suddenly he drops dead? Kinda makes ya think ... let me know what it makes you think because I haven't got a clue what it all means.

MM - just look for the downward trend - see my last 2 weeks of weight loss and I have dropped way off the larger weekly losses. It was going to eventually happen and I have been prepared for this day and I will go all 60's on you saying it is sunshine and rainbows and how it blew my mind and it was such a trip ... in conclusion, its a BUMMER!

Linda,

Surely you jest - why of course you are most welcome! Join us - it seems to be a great group of people who tend to have the same shared sense of humor - due to our similar ages I assume, that or it was the light that attracted them ...

Spill, share some weight loss war stories with us, we are all in the trenches doing daily battle against our common enemy ... FAT!

Suze:

You were wondering the meaning of MudMouse..

Actually, it isn't a small Dirty Rat... Rather, a long time ago, my now 25 year old son got his first screen name on AOL. I invented the name MudMouse for him cause he was little like a mouse and always filthy. Hence, the name fit. He actually developed no interest in computers when he was 7, and when he did start playing with them, he sure didn't want to be a MudMouse.. I always thought it was a funny name, and I kept it when Brian didn't want it any more..

How's that for a total let down...

P.S. Hello gorgeous!

Dear MM - and here all the while I was thinking it some strange creature living in Canada! Really! I got saddled with my name of "Babybing" due to the "Sopranos" ... the nudie bar that Tony owned was called "Ba Da Bing" which roughly translates into "big boobs" in English, so I having breasts the size of two, small bee stings ... ah, you see where this is going!

You know what I am craving to eat from Canada - the famous french fry dish covered in some sauce? Could you post the recipe please? I understand it is like major comfort food and very addictive.

The french fry thingie is called "Poutine", and to be totally honest, I don't much like it. I like my fries plain! But my step-daughter absolutely loves it, so it just depends on your tastebuds..

You make fry's the unhealthy way, you pour gravy over them, and then you cover that with cheese curds, and then you melt it. If you don't have cheese curds handy, use mozarella...

Pretty easy, pretty nasty, and like I said - I don't like gravy on my fries, but lots of people love this. I think I remember hearing it started in Quebec but I can't guarantee it.

When you get this dish made, just apply it directly to your hips. Don't bother eating it... Just slather it on.. It will save time.
