I had the new chicken corn chowder for lunch today and liked it very much, however, it EXPLODED!!!! Just like beef barley stew! With all of the talk about exploding beef barley, why oh why would JC put it in the same container???
If you have the corn chowder, save yourself a headache and put it in a microwaveable bowl from the get go. Then you won't be scraping your soup into a bowl off of a microwave turn table.
Please Jenny- come up with another solution for the microwaveable bowls! These do not work! The 4 holes in the top are not nearly enough ventilation.

Groan. My stew just exploded on Sunday, and I was wondering if anyone else had reported it. Now the corn chowder is exploding too?
It was so annoying, because I only got to eat half of my lunch. It was a public microwave and I didn't feel it was sanitary to scrape my food off the turn-table.
Don't they test this stuff before they release it?

I was forewarned about the exploding chowder so I was extra careful (I was at work and didn't have a separate bowl to put it into). I didn't even put it in for the full time. With 5 seconds left I watched the bowl jump up, turn over, and spill out 3/4 of the chowder. Being at work, I had to throw away all the stew that poured all over the microwave.
JC needs to maybe make a microwave bowl that's wider at the bottom to prevent the tipping over. My husband eats Campbell's Firehouse Chili all the time and has NEVER had the bowl tip in the microwave. The bottom is as wide as the top so I think that has something to do with it. As much as we pay for these meals, they could at least make the bowl design conducive to the microwave directions!!!

i was leary about it since it was the same type of container as the beef and barley....poured mine in a bowl but thought the soup was horrible! I ended up putting about 1/3 of a can of rotel in it to make it spicy and edible. imho.....would rather have the chili con carne back....

oh well...I got myself into this mess...I'm not gonna get myself out of it painlessly!

Mind also exploded. I told my consultant and she just said "Make sure you follow the cooking instructions". I told her I followed them exactly but it still exploded.

After I get my students to lunch and heat my own, I have about 15 minutes to eat. Mine exploded int he staff microwave and I spent half my lunch cleaning it up. I thought I did something wrong.

I typically stir it every thirty seconds and don't seem to have any problems. I think it just creates hot spots, but stirring more often helps prevent hot spots from getting too hot.

This week I told my JCC about my exploding corn chowder incident and she felt bad about it and gave me a free replacement meal (I chose something else, because the 2 spoonfuls that didn't spill on the microwave were not very tasty). I suggest that when these incedents occur we demand a replacement!! I understand the argument about just pouring it into a regular bowl first, but then why are we paying more for this "Microwave bowl" design??
I think if enough of us demand a replacement that Corporate will finally take notice and design a better container.

I had the exploding beef barely soup too (twice, you'd think I'd learn). I was bummed that half my lunch ended up in the work microwave. I also had one of the potatoes in my creamy potato soup (which I microwaved in a paper bowl) explode after I took it out of the microwave. I got a slight burn under my chin where it hit me. I haven't ordered it since. So far, I haven't had any problems with the corn chowder but I've only ate it once.

I followed the instuctions. After the first 30 seconds it exploded. Flipped up and over. I grabbed it fast. I have a microwave in my office since the ones in our breakroom are gross. I saved what I could but it was not very tasty even with Mrs. Dash.
JC should get labels printed for the top and say do not heat in the bowl use a microwave safe bowl.
What a mess! 1/2 of my lunch cleaning the microwave

I actually found a way to heat all JC soups and stews without it exploding. For most microwaves, this is what I do -
heat in microwave for 2 minutes on power level 5. Then,
stir it up a bit, recover and heat for another 2 minutes on power level 5. If you don't mind the overall heating time to be around 4-5 minutes, it comes out awesome. Because of this heating method, I found I can now really enjoy the Beef and Barley Stew as well as the Corn Chowder and the AWESOME Torellini Soup. I found that JC cannot account for all the different power microwaves out there, so that's why they say put in the micro for 1.5 minutes on high power.
Try it on your own and see what happens!
Cheers!

My chicken noodle soup exploded yesterday - I was not a happy dieter. This has not happened at home - so I came to the conclusion that the 'industrial' type microwave heats just to fast and hot for these items. SO - I put today's entree in a less powerful microwave on a lesser power level - and no explosion! I am now a satisfied corn chowder lover.

LOL!
I had this today and thankfully mine didnt explode or flip... however I did keep hearing a thunking sound (and I did stir it per instruction!).... which tells me it was trying really hard to flip! ;-)
As for the chowder itself... I thought it was pretty good.... needed a dash of hot sauce, but it was good.

As far as the chowder, it is ok, but not my favorite. It's lacking something.

As soon as I opened the container I questioned as to whether I'd like the chicken corn chowder or not. I tasted a little on the spoon and didn't like the taste. I also am not a fan of peas and it was loaded with them. So... I picked the peas out - heated some broth in a pan, added diced green onion, carrots, and celery. The broth thinned it out and the added veggies boosted the flavor. I don't think I will order it again though!
