Full Version: Better in the Oven...

I know that most of the JC food has the option of cooking in the oven, but I am too lazy/hungry to actually try this for most things. What items do you like better when it is cooked in the oven over the microwave?

Here are some that I HAVE tried...

Fish & Chips - a million times better
Fajitas - non-stick skillet - no comparison
Rising Crust Pizza - I don't even know if there are microwave instructions
Personal Pizza - way better - too soggy from the microwave

Thanks!!

Without a doubt, the pizzas are way better in the oven. I love fish, but am incredibly picky about it, so haven't tried that yet, either in the oven or microwave.

Can you even cook the fajitas in the microwave? That seems to me like it would be kind of gross, I've always done mine in a skillet.

I have used the Enchiladas as a dinner and put them under the broiler with a touch extra cheese to brown.

The Fish & Chips are a must for the oven IMO.

I add extra veggies like mushrooms, peppers and onions to the pizza and bake - yummy.

I am the some way about the fish and chips, as you are. I avoided them for the longest time. But last week I had one for the first, it was really really good. I'm going to have one every week now. I would suggest trying it. Well worth it, for me.

The pizzas are a definite, and if I have the patience, the fish & chips (I like 'em either way, but don't eat this one too much - not fun to volumize like some of the others (aside from just making a side of veggies) and a small portion). If I have one of the muffins for breakfast, I'll warm it in the toaster over rather than the microwave. I bet the lunch stuffed sandwiches would be better in the oven, but I'm too impatient (I guess they could cook while I eat my salad). Lunch burrito would probably be improved in the oven, too... but haven't tried cooking it that way (see above).

I think the rest heat up rather well in the microwave. I just have to remember which mic I'm using - we have two in the office kitchen which have different wattages, and the one at home is a different wattage, as well. Sometimes the beef stew explodes, sometimes not - depending on the oven/setting

I find my toaster oven invaluable - a lot quicker than a full size oven. I don't think I could ever eat the stuffed sandwiches just out of the microwave. I cook them in the micro but then put them in the toaster oven for just a few minutes to crisp them up - works great! Same thing with the fish and chips, although they take a little longer. I always toast any of the bread items - the muffin with the sunshine sandwich, the rolls for other sandwiches, the french toast - I don't think I could have some this far without my toaster oven!

I totally agree at home my toaster oven is king -- at work I have a toaster to use, also priceless!

Stuffed sandwiches -- I microwave for 1 minute, then pop in the toaster until brown and crisp outside.

Turkey Burger & Chicken Sandwich - I often eat them "solo" - I spray the buns with I can't believe it's not butter spray and a little garlic powder and pop in the toaster for a garlic bread to eat on the side.

Pizzas -- all of them go in the toaster oven.

Meatloaf -- also great in the oven, potatoes get crispy like home fries.

Mesquite Chicken -- same as above -- I pull the potatoes out of the dish and crisp them up then nuke the chicken and broccoli.

Mac and Cheese -- I defrost it, take it out of the container place it in a small baking dish atop stewed tomatos and bake.

I cook everything in the oven. Except for of course soups and the fajitas. It just IMO makes everything taste good and more crisp for bread items.

I agree with all of the above. When I cook the Fish and Chips, I heat it up a little in the microwave and then I finish it off in the oven to get everything crispy. One meal I've always cooked in the toaster is the Turkey Panini and I eat it as an open faced sandwich. I tried the BBQ Beef Panini yesterday and also made it in the toaster.

Actually, I cooked my fajitas in the microwave per the package instructions and they turned out great. In three days, this is my favorite lunch!!!

I am returning back to Jenny Craig after a few years away. I use to feel so/so about the baked Potato, but I picked a couple up to give it a try again. I switched my dinner option to lunch time, and I baked the Broccoli Cheese Potato in the oven for my dinner instead. Now the Potato that I use to feel so/so about when I microwaved it at work, will be a regular on my menu. I'll plan to eat them baked in the oven from now on!
