Oh Boy....I waited until week 5 to try the fish and chips. I'm not a big seafood girl but they were truly yummy in my tummy. I sprayed a baking sheet with Pam and baked them for 30 minutes at 375, turning halfway.

I ate the malt vinegar on the fish and had some ketchup for the fries. The fries were outstanding and even got a little crispy. I've been faithful to the program for 5 weeks so maybe it's just because I haven't had anything like the fries in a while but they were great.

Jenny.....feel free to add those fries to any new meal!

I agree - I was a little dubious about the Fish and Chips, but once I got them and baked them in the oven - delish! I didn't use the malt vinegar though. I always make coleslaw to go with - just buy the shredded coleslaw mix, add 1 tbsp light coleslaw dressing & a squirt or 2 of lime juice (or lemon if no lime). If I have a fruit left you can add an apple or some raisins to coleslaw. Oh, and i always have pickles with it too - great meal!

You are right - it is lovely to get fries! I also like the mesquite chicken done in the oven as the potatoes turn out so good.

Warning - if you haven't tried them - it is extremely important you bake these in the oven! Actually - I cook both about 1/2 time in microwave while oven is heating, then complete in the oven 10-15 min.

I would have liked the fish to have been crunchier. Does doing it in the microwave first help with that?

I didn't cover anything with foil and the fish was still soft.

I'd welcome any cooking suggestions.

Thanks for the coleslaw idea. I didn't know there was light coleslaw dressing. I was thinking about using my Henry's FF honey dijon on some cabbage to save the fat serving.

I tried the Fish and Chips last night. I was afraid to try them at first, because I usually only eat fresh seafood, not something out of a box. But I was very surprised how good this meal was. I will be ordering it again. I also used the vinegar for the fish and ketchup for my chips. I microwaved mine, and it was not very crunchy so I don't know if that will help. However my fries were sorta crunchy.

I love this meal!! I use a microwave and it tastes good to me that way, don't usually have time to use the oven.

"I would have liked the fish to have been crunchier. Does doing it in the microwave first help with that?"

I think it does help the crunch to m/wave then bake - but I use a stoneware bar pan (from pampered chef) and so it might be that using stoneware is what makes the difference?

I actually heat up my fish and fries in the microwave for about 1 min then take them out, spray a pan with some nonstick spray and put everything in the pan and cook it on the stove. Flip it occasionally and the fish and fries get crispy!

I love the Fish & Chips. The first time I had it, I didn't think it was too good, but I decided to give it another try and cook it in the oven. Since I started making it in the oven, I love it! I get it at least once a week sometimes twice. I usually take the fish & fries out of the container and put it on a foil lined cookie sheet, flip it over 1/2 way through cooking and leave it in alittle longer that it says on the box. It comes out nice & crispy.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fish and Chips! I feel like I'm cheating when I eat this meal. I don't eat the yucky anytime bars so for my extra fat serving for the day I mix some light mayo with a little ketchup as a dipping sauce for the fish/fries. Yum Yum Yum!!! I eat this meal 2-3 times a week!!

If you opt out of the Anytime bars, you don't get an extra fat serving. You get an extra MILK serving. Options are listed on page 13 of your Success Made Simple Guide. Also, make sure you are taking a multi-vitamin to make up for the Anytime bar as well.

I've been microwaving the fish and chips...and didn't realize until the other day that you were supposed to take the plastic film OFF the entree. All this time I've been taking the malt vinegar (toss) and putting the plastic film back over the container.

Ditto!

I did not overly enjoy this meal until I cooked it in the oven - then it was super yummy! I even ordered it again this week, something I never do!!

Oops, my bad. I meant on the days I don't do salads (aka the dressing) I get that extra fat serving.

I was reading a post where someone used the bun from the chicken sandwish (had a chicken salad for lunch- cubed chicken with green) to make a fish sandwich. I did it and it was good. I eat Fish and Chips, at lease one time a week, it is my fav. The fish sandwich is way good, and my JCC told me to make fish tace. That is for next time.

If you microwave the meal, make sure to take out the fish afterwards and broil for a few minutes on each side to make it crunchy. Otherwise the fish is a little soggy when just microwaved. Enjoy!!
