Ok, so I finished my first week on JC and weighed this morning to a 3 lb. loss. I'm happy but I'm not. I was expecting a bigger loss for my first week so am upset that I didn't do better. But I keep telling myself that I LOST weight and that is good. I talked to my counselor earlier today and she said the same thing, that I did a good job and not to feel bad about not doing more. I guess I'm just sick of being fat and want it gone fast. I know it doesn't work that way, but those feelings are still there. I'm trying hard not to beat myself up over it though. I didn't gain the weight in one week so can't expect to lose it all in a week either.

3 lbs. is a TERRIFIC loss. I don't believe I've ever lost 3 lbs. in one week, even at the beginning. Slow and steady is the way to go.

Just keep up what you are doing, I mean lil by lil things are going to change for you. Yeah, I wish it was faster but we all have to accept the fact that it takes time. Im having my first weigh-in on friday, so yeah I dont know what think.

That's a great loss! If you don't believe me, ask to see the plastic fat they have at the center.

I sometimes get so frustrated at the diet industry, particularly the fad diet industry, that sets us up for unrealistic expectations for weight loss, and that includes hows like The Biggest Loser.

We don't get instantly fat. It takes months, and sometimes years, of living a fat lifestyle, to get to where we need to lose weight. The most important thing that we can learn to do as we lose weight, is to change our lifestyle to promote slimness instead of fatness. Lifestyle change takes time, and so does losing weight in a healthy way. In order to make a true lifestyle change, it takes about six to twelve months. In order to call ourselves successful at maintenance, we have to keep those old bad habits from creeping back in to our lifestyle for a minimum of five years.

I urge you to place your focus more on the success you are having at changing the lifestyle that made you fat, rather than on the scale. If you do that, the scale will automatically follow.

Three pounds is great! There are no quick solutions to loosing weight. You have to tell your self that you didn't put the weight on over night and it is not going to come off over night either. A nice slow steady loss rate is best for your health so keep it up just like you are doing.

I sometimes feel the same way when I see that I've only lost one or two pounds in a week, but six weeks in I've lost enough to start making a difference in my mind. As slow as you think three pounds is, you'll feel really confident when you get past your first month and you'll be able to look back and be proud of how much you've lost.

On a side note. I've gained and lost the same 50-70 pounds about four times in my lifetime very quickly...and I lost my gallbladder because of it. Slow weight loss would have meant no surgery for me!

Would I like to wake up and "be skinny" tomorrow? You bet, but in a weird way the slow-going it is changing my relationship with food and I like it. I don't feel compelled to "get all I can" before a new diet starts. Lasting progress is about daily success, and that's what you'll get with this way of eating (small breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with two snacks).

So, put your emotional blinders on and just stick with it no matter what for at least six weeks, then tell me how you feel! You WILL lose weight if you follow it to a tee.
