Good Morning everyone,
Well, it's a new year and hopefully I will make it to my goal sometime this year!! I had hoped to do it by the end of last year but December was a terrible month for me and I ended up gaining roughly 12#!! Not very much willpower at all. But I started back on program this Monday and have been doing good so I hope to stay motivated and to finally reach my goal this year!!

Wish you all a good year and look forward to hearing from everyone!

Hello Kathy:

Good to see you are back on track again. I am too. Maintained really well over the holidays. Gained two pounds. I also set a new goal weight. I'm going to try to lose another twenty pounds. My new goal weight is 155. My current weight is 173. I lost two pounds this week. I was at 175 pounds. I have a total of 17 more pounds to go to get to my new goal weight.

I'm very excited about losing these next few pounds. I wanted to maintian for a while because I was getting really flabby, but I'm really starting to firm up now. So I'm ready. Every little pound I lose now shows big time, so I might have to take a break to firm up from time to time. I won't know until I get there. I walked 15 miles this week (three miles per day for 5 days with my dogs). I really got tired, but I got rid of 2 pounds. So I guess that is what it's going to take to get rid of the remainder of this weight. There seems to be no way around it.

Have a great day.

Hi Ladies,

Betty Jo - Congrats big time on reaching your first goal. I hope you are feeling really proud of your self and treat yourself for your great accomplishment!!!

Luvmygrannies, Good to see you back here. I know I had my problems and I stumbled quite a few times this past year, but this program really works for me when I stick to it. I really like the food and I just love the fact that your can just grab a meal and not have to worry about the portions. That seems to be my biggest problem when I do the meals on my own. I make something I really like and I get carried away with it. My resolution for this year is to reach my goal, however long it takes. The family problems seem to have settled down at least for the time being and hopefully now I will be able to concentrate on me.

I did pretty good this week, I lost almost 8#. Lot of it I know was fluids again cause it was just like starting over with eating the right foods. I lost quite a bit that way when I first started with Jenny. It is definitely a good incentive to continue losing!!

Hope you all have a great week and look forward to seing your posts.

how did you lose all that wght first wk back...uuuuuuuuu are amazing

Hello everybody!
Well, I had typed a 'post' to you all on my laptop... and somehow it dissappeared before hitting 'add reply'. So frustrating! But, here now.

Betty Jo - Yippee!!! you are all of our 'incentive'. You rock. I have NOT lost a pound since pre- Thanksgiving. 203 and holding. Actually, I yo-yo gained about 4 lbs and would lose it (twice during the holidays). But, I think I'm hitting the new year now with new energy. Today is weigh-in.

Kathy - you are also my partner in this. WE seem to run neck and neck. But you lose faster. I just struggle at this BIG time! Only 32 lbs in 8 months. This year needs to bring me a 50 lbs weight loss. That will get me to where I know I can stay naturally. But, when I'm on my own, I blow it... whether cooking or eating out. We went into Knoxville last Saturday to see the bull riding. Ate at Olive Garden. I got the capellini promodoro... which is a low fat fair. I ate 2 servings of salad. VERY little dressing. I'm still ok.... until I hit the bread sticks. Yummy. I ate 3 of them. Then I got home and looked up the calorie counts. YEA GADS !!! That meal was 1267 calories! I almost fainted. Need to work on going out to restaurants.

luvmygrannies - glad to see you back here. Keep up your good work! I am the same way, someone's tone can set me to negative thoughts. gheez. I hate that. But my consulntant now is A++. I feel like I am accountable to her. She acts like we have really known each other for years... not just professional phone business. And, I can email her.

There are others posting under seperate subjects ... I hope they see us here and join in. I hate spending too much time on here. I could be playing my Wii and my Wii Fit. Yes, I got the board last week! Love it!!! I do 1 hour a day between Sports and Fit. 'Cept yesterday when hubby owned the couch and the TV.....

Good Morning Ladies,
Well, I'm still hanging in there and haven't messed up so far!!!!

Luvmygrannies - what I lost last week I am sure is mostly fluids. That happened when I first started on Jenny too. I take a water pill every morning and am totally surprised that when I eat the correct foods that I am running to the bathroom so much more even when I am taking the water pill. I think it's because when I am eating the Jenny food I am not eating hardly any salt. I don't add salt to anything and the Jenny foods themselves are very low in soduim.

Betty Jo - Wow!! Walking 3 miles a day! That is great! I haven't gotten back on the treadmill yet, but when I was I was lucky to get in a little over a mile a day. Hopefully I'll get there eventually.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Hi Kathy:

Yep, I've worked up to 3 miles a day, but it varies as to how much I walk daily. Most of the time I try to do 3 miles, but some days I do a short walk and only do two miles. I started out really small and worked my way up. At first I just walked down to the end of my street and back, which is about 1 mile. I struggled with that at first and I hated it!! Then I increased it to two to three times per week, which was about 3 miles per week. This year now I've increased to 2-3 miles a day, which is getting easier every day. My husband took the 4-wheeler out and measured the mileage and I was really surprised at how far I was walking. I walk with my dogs so they keep me motivated. I had to really start ramping up. I was really getting flabby from losing the first 75 pounds. Now, my next goal is another 20 pounds. I've already lost 2 of that, but that amount is subject to change because every pound I lose now shows because I'm much smaller with less fat that before. My goal is to get to a size medium. I'm in a large now and can fit into some mediums. When I get there, I will maintain at that weight, whatever it is.

I'm glad to hear you are back on track. You have come so far and you don't want to gain it back. I remember all to well how miserable I was and I don't want any part of that again ever! It doesn't take that much time out of my day to do the walking. About 1 hour tops. So I'm in this for life. I know that I will get more muscular as time goes on and my metabolism will get even more efficient. So that's pretty much what I'm working on now. I'm thinking it will probably take me about 3 years to totally redo myself and change all my bad habits.

In March my membership with JC will be expiring, so I want to get as much of this weight off as I can before that happens. I don't want to pay again. Good motivation. Don't you think?

Have a great day and I'll be in to see how everyone is doing.

Hi Jo:

Good to hear you are still with us. I was reading your post and one thing stuck out. You said you hadn't lost any weight since Thanksgiving. That's okay. Today is a new day and you can do anything you really want to do. Start off small like I did. Make little changes. Start tracking everything you eat and add lots of veggies and fruit to your daily calorie count. Just those two little things will keep you feeling full and help you to lose weight. Then, when you identify what I call triggers in your diet, which cause you to over eat, eliminate them from your daily diet one at a time. For instance, I love cake. I don't dare let it sit where I can easily access it. That would be a disaster. So I either don't have it in the house or if I had some left over from Thanksgiving and Christmas, I give it to my guests to take home and if that doesn't work, I freeze it. I play little tricks on myself all the time. I know what my weaknesses are and I find a way around them.

Good luck with your weight loss in 2009 and keep that good sense of humor of yours alive.

Betty Jo

Good Morning all,
Well, I'm still doing pretty good with the sticking to the program. I've had doctors appointment this past week and had to go for a CT scan yesterday so that messed things up a bit with the eating but I didn't mess up anything too bad. I don't get any results till I see the doctor next Wednesday, so I am a bit nervous as to what the results may be. I have been having pain in my right side since Christmas and my doctor seems to think it is either my kidney or my intestines. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait to find out!

Jo - don't worry about not having lost anything since Thanksgiving. At least you didn't gain like I did - that's a BIG PLUS in itself. It really is shoking how fast the calories add up when you eat out! I really do good when I stick to the Jenny food but that isn't always possible. When I do eat out I usually try to make good choices, but I ocassionly just have to have something that I know isn't the best choice. Well, hand in there and hopefull this will be the year that we all meet our goals!!

Good Morning All,
WI this morning and I lost 1.2#. Not the greatest but at least it is a loss to report. I was off program a couple of days with running for doctors appointment and going for tests, etc. so I don't feel too bad with losing just the 1#. Other than those days I've been sticking to the program pretty good.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Kathy

Hello Everyone:

Reporting in with a 1# weight loss for the week. I want to get the final pounds off by March because that's when my JC membership expires.

Kathy:
Hope your tests come out okay. Don't like the ideas your doctor presented to you. Neither of those things sound good. Please keep us informed.

Betty Jo

PS: On February 1 I will be getting a new computer, so it may be a few days before I'm up and running again.

Good Morning Ladies,
My doctors appointment went good yesterday. The CT scan showed everything was good but there are still 2 possibilities for the pain in my side and back - either my gall bladder or else constipation, which are minor concerns compared to the kidneys, liver, etc. so I am very releived about that. All the blood work and other tests came back normal too. My doctor wants me to go for some kind of a test for the gall bladder, but I want to wait about 2 weeks and see if taking a fiber supplement works and gets rid of the pain first. I don't want to go thru an expensive 2-hour test if I don't have to!!!

We are supposed to get another arctic blast again this weekend! I am so sick of this cold-cold weather!! I'll really be glad when the next two months are over and I can hopefully be able to do some things outside again! I'm really looking forward to planting a garden again. It gives me something to do outdoors and helps me get in some natural activity!
Hope everyone has a great day and hope to hear more from all of you!

HELLO !!!! You all are too quiet. I know, everybody is exercising.... you think?

Thank you Kathy and Betty Jo for the words of support! That's why we need all of us over 60 to chatter around here. SUPPORT. You gotta' love it and you gotta' need it!

Kathy and Betty Jo - you all are doing so good!!! I read this column with great anticipation to hear your stories.

Kathy, I'm so glad your doctor results don't show anything bad. Yes, gall bladders can be a nightmare of pain in the back! I went through some episodes. Did not have it removed.... I'm an alternative medicine type of gal. I went to my Chinese acupuncturist. Drank weird concoctions for one year! Next ultrasound was clean as a baby's. But, we never forget the pain. I use to pass out. Bar-b-que was the worse food! It was like a trigger point. I guess my body did not like the 'sauce'. Then, as if you haven't heard me complain before of the BIG "C" word (constipation), it makes my personality go south! And I use to laugh at "old people" with the big "C" problem. I use fiber, prunes, softeners, and pray. I hope you figure yours out soon. And I hear you about that weather!!!

This is how my story has been going: Last Friday, WI was 201.2. Yippee!!!! I contribute that to my Wii and Wii Fit. I love it. Just so much fun... not over exhausting tho. But, no more since them. In fact, I gained 4 lbs. and I'm NOT eating off Jenny Plan. What?! Why?! Dunno. Hopefully next week will be a better WI. Saturday nite started a different story... I fell on the ice. Down on my bad knee and backward. It was a sheet of ice around here that happened in 30 minutes. [The wrecks were enormous on the highway. I talked to my doctor and she was on call (permanently) at the hospital.] Without good knees, exercise has to be put on hold - til I figure out what the knee was doing. Got over the soreness after 3 days. Went to the chiropractor and my left leg (bad side of the body!) was 2" shorter. Hips were off big time. Fixed now, I hope. That must be why it hurt so bad to do the Wii Fit balance stuff. Funny story: I tried the ski jump and wadded up into an avalache!! If you don't know what I'm talking about -- find yourself a Wii Fit. It is the funniest thing. If your knees don't PUSH you off the ski slope, you wad into the avalanche. My knees would not sway, move, and just hurt. ALL is doing much better now. Still having trouble with the balance stuff tho.

Kathy -- I hear you about your Jenny membership expires in March.... and just know that you (of all of us) will make it!!! But, if you leave Jenny, you don't have to leave these columns, do you? I'd miss you. Your walking inspires me! Our land is so hilly around here, I never imagined anything past the flat Texas walkways. Are yours hilly or flat? Makes a BIG differnce. Yet, I need to get going on walking too.

Ok, gotta' go be usefull to the world!
Jo

Good Morning Ladies,
I didn't get to post yesterday after WI. Wasn't the best - only lost .4# but I am glad I had a loss. Went out with a friend and had a couple of drinks one nite and celebrated my step-daughter's birthday on Sunday. Had a small piece of cake with a small scoop of ice cream and counted it as my evening snack - not the best but could have been worse!!! The sugar from the frosting really gave me a rush and I really felt miserable after I ate it. A couple of hours later I had the munchies bad and decided to have a little cole slaw to hold me over - BAD choice. About 20 minutes after I felt like I bloated up so bad I had to take my jeans off and get into my jammies cause the pressure around the waist was so bad! Still don't know if it is the bowels or the gall bladder that is causing the problems but I go for another test on Thursday for the gall bladder so hopefully I will find out for sure what the problem is after I get the results from that!!!

Jo - Sorry to hear about your falling! That black ice is really some nasty stuff!! The roads around here are terrible lots of days, not necesserily black ice but lots of time just pack down snow that get really slippery. Plus it's been so fricking cold around here lately I don't get outside much at all. We had 21 below again this morning and I am really hoping that this is the end of the Arctic blasts around here!! Your Wii sounds like so much fun. I am going to try to set aside some money and hopefully get me one before too long! I tried the bowling at my step-daughters and just loved it.

Betty Jo - How was your WI this weeek? Hope all is going well for you! You will be able to get yourself a whole new spring and summer wardrobe depending on when you get to where you want to be!!! I didn't buy many new clothes during the winter cause I hopefully won't be able to wear them by the time next winter comes around.

How are the rest of you ladies doing? Haven't heard from some of you for awhile.

Kathy

Hello
My name is Kathryn aka Nanakatewest and I am returning to JC this afternoon in about an hour. Would love to join your support group for us mature women. I don't have time right now to learn how to do all this message board stuff. Will take more time after my JC appointment. May I join your group? I need to lose 100 lbs and want to focus on 5% at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. My dream is to live healthier, with more energy.

Hello Ladies

I hope it is ok for me to post to your group....I qualify by age and weight.

One and a half years ago I started Jenny and I've lost over 50 lbs. But I've flat lined with my weight for the last few months.

So, for the new year, I joined a fitness club one block from where I live. In NYC we do distance by blocks as most people don't have cars in the city, so public transportation is the way to go.

I started slow with the eliptical machine 15 min.....I'm up to 35 minutes. I add 5 minutes a week. I've been trying to get to the club every other day. I'm also doing some weight training to increase my muscle mass (and hopefully burn more calories)

I have about 30 pounds still to lose.....I admit that I've been a little loose with Jenny.....but I can't put myself on house arrest either and the foods that travel (lunches especially) are almost nonexistant.

My counselor suggested getting a wide mouth thermos and carry it with me......but I wish that Jenny had some foods to go, like breakfast muffins, or bars. I've frequently used the bars or muffins as a lunch.

Sometimes I just buy a salad with some grilled chicken.

I'm hoping if I keep writing, I will be motivated to lose the rest of the weight.....

thanks .......diane

I'm curious.......are all you ladies 100% Jenny, or do you incorporate some of your own foods??????

Hi Diane:

Right now I'm eating regular food. I'm within 5 pounds of my goal weight and I'm trying to wean myself off of Jenny foods because my membership expires in March. But I do cook from the Jenny cook books or from low-fat recipes. I also purchase low-fat foods, such as low-fat sour cream, mayo, dressings, etc. As many as I can find actually. I've lost 79 pounds since I started Jenny on December 2007. So I'm just about done. I watch my calories very closely now and walk three times a week to stay in shape. The last 5 pounds will be the hardest for me to lose, but I'm sure this summer, as long as I watch my calories, the weight will come off.

Jenny is a fantastic program. Stick to their program and you will lose weight (about 2 pounds per week). I'm living proof that the program does work. So hang in there. The secret I think is planning. Make sure you plan every meal ahead of time. The day before if possible, which is not hard if you are eating Jenny food. They do everything for you. Exercise is necessary, but if you can't exercise at first it will come off, but just a little slower.

Oh, Betty Jo. biggrin.gif I am so proud of you -- but will miss the comradery with you terribly. You are truely a success story. It was great riding along the last 9 months and hearing your great results. You have given me lots of good tips too. Thanks!

I wonder how much chattering will go on now? So far, it's been dull and quiet in this group.

OK -- I weighed in at 197 this week. It is so exciting. My clothes size is an 18 (not an 18W). It has got to be the different food style. My loss has been the S-L-O-W plan but will be forever. I have dined out at least one time each week and have gone on trips where I could not eat Jenny.... so I've been practicing holding my own ever since beginning Jenny. And, I'm about ready to cook some of my own meals. My internediate goal was 180. But that was because it is a real BIG deal to get there. But, my forever weight will be 150. That puts me at the top of a good body BMI and should put me in a size 14. Can't wait!

Til we meet again,
Betty Jo, Hooray for you!!!!!

Good Morning Ladies,

I haven't been on the boards for awhile - everytime I checked there was nothing new and I don't like to be the only one posting so I haven't checked in for awhile. Good to see some posts out there again!

I am trying to incorporate more of my own meals into the Jenny program. I have lost close to 80# so far and I do most of the breakfasts and snacks on my own. I still get a few of my favorite Jenny one to have on hand. The past couple of weeks I have been doing more of the lunches on my own and I am doing pretty good with them but I find I have a problem if I do the dinners on my own. I start our with a correct portion but then if it is something I really like I end up having a little more and I get too carried away, so it is best for me if I stick to the Jenny meals for my dinners. Since the holidays I have been bouncing back and forth quite a bit and haven't really lost much since then, but I am holding my own and learning how to eat better choices when I eat on my own (except for the dinners at times)!

Betty Jo - congrats on doing so well!!! I am sure you will get those last 5 pounds off - you are so committed to this!! I hope you will still pop in on the boards and offer us your encouragement as you have done so much in the past. I am SO looking forward to warmer weather and getting a garden planted again. It will help me with getting more activity which I really need. I have been getting on the treadmill a few days a week but to me it is just boring. The natural activity is so much better for me but there isn't much you can do around here in the winter.

Jo - CONGRATS on making it below the 200 mark. I am really looking forward to making that goal! I am thinking that if and when I make that one I will be more encouraged to make my actual goal of 175. I have been going up and down so much lately that I seem to be getting nowhere! I do really good for a week or so and then I have a day where I mess things up. I wish I could get the motivation back that I had when I started with Jenny.

Welcome to the new ladies and hope to hear more from you. It really helps to hear from others and share our accomplishments and the struggles we encounter. I really love this program as it is so easy to get back on program if you do mess up. I have lost 30 - 50# on other programs and then would get really tired of them and end up gaining everything back plus!! This is the only program I have been able to lose so much on and even though I mess up every now and then I have no problem going back to eating correctly. Wish you all a happy and healthy journey.

Kathy
