Seems all my raving paid off...

... as I lost a pound this week. After I got my brain back and went over things with DH... I've been exercising (cardio and strength) every day, which was new... I wasn't sleeping very well... I gained weight... I got sick...
I've been overtraining. Well, DUH!
Because I'm not lifting 50 lbs and spending 90 minutes on cardio, I think I'm kinda doggin' it and not
really working
that hard. Let's join the rest of the world in reality and admit that this is more than I'm used to doing, and it really could be overtraining. So, my new resolution is to take two days off per week instead of just one. There's no deadline for me to be fit and healthy, so let's take it down a notch. Back to my usual "peaceful easy feeling." Ahhhh.....
How did everyone else do today? Hope y'all are getting the New Year off to a great start!

Congratulations on your WI! I'm not going in until this evening - I switched my consultation time because I was starting school today, but then the college was closed due to the weather, so I'm just chilling out and eating.
I don't think I'll do this well this week (I NEVER think that I'm going to do well) because my understanding is that you weigh more in the evening, due to ingesting food throughout the day, so I think for this week, the scale is going to not reflect accurately if I've lost.

Well, been a while since I've logged into JC! Hi everyone!

I've been super busy and I'm more than 1/2 way to goal!
I switched gyms recently. I honestly just want to go and workout. Why do people have to be high schoolish about things? Just let me do my workout and then shower and be on my way. The good news is that the new gym is great and less expensive each month to boot! I'm running and doing the 5K at least weekly, other running is a mile, then I do the bike and crunches.
I've lost 18" and 18 pounds since the end of July. I've also started to have some MOMO this week. Just testing the waters as I know that the JC food won't be around forever! I found some really great recipes on the site and hubby and I had chicken marinara this evening for dinner. It was really, really good!
On another note, I tried on a bathing suit over the weekend! Oh wow, it was too small, but, I wouldn't wear it anyway. *LOL* I just wanted to see how it would look and if it would fit. I'm off to real stores in the mall over the next couple of weeks to find a really great suit. By then I will probably be another size down, but, I think I can find one that looks okay no matter what size I am.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and a great New Year!! I hope to stop by weekly and check in with everyone.

I was so happy when I saw
Sara's smiling face!

This is such great news you are sharing!!! Glad you are back with us and checking in. We missed you! Have fun with the swimsuit try-outs. Let us know what you found that works.
Dan, you did great over the holidays. So many people gain and never get it off again. You are so far ahead of the game. (Are we excited about the Eagles? The Giants game will be interesting.... I may even watch the whole game!)
Thanks,
Cyto! Lucky duck... snow day on day one! You're very smart to realize the baseline has moved for your weigh-ins. Take a mulligan this week, and you'll be okay in future weeks as long as you keep to this schedule. Where are you that you had snow? You aren't sending it east, are you? I got two extra days of JC food in case we get any snow or ice. My car will NOT go in snow. I accidentally got a car with "high-performance" sport tires. Every direction I try to get out of my development requires an uphill portion and it just gets frustrating going backwards down the hill, uncontrollably, while I hope no one is watching!
I forgot to mention earlier that I've lost another 5"! That's 17" so far!

Hi everyone this is the beginning of my second week on Jenny Craig....I just got home about an hour ago from my first weight in and also meeting my consultant who is here to help me in the long haul. For a messed up week (new years holiday) I am happy to say that I lost 3.4 lbs.....

but the scale is still not something that I look forward to....so here is to a good for all of us...

I lost two lbs! Even with moving my WI to this evening? Why is that, you ask? Because I'm kicking rad, that's why.
AvivaG - I'm in Vancouver, Canada. The snow here is really weird, though I am from the prairies, and am used to driving in the snow - the problem is I get stuck at home because everyone else is running around in their all-seasons (which basically means they suck all year round) and get stuck on the hill, trapping me in. Also, they drive super slow. I bought my car down in the states, and because of that, it came with high-performance summer tires (w00t!), that are worse than nothing in the snow, so I have ice-tires for the winter when I go snowboarding. Also, it's rear wheel drive, which some people don't like in the snow, but which I prefer as a general rule (though there are some new AWD systems that have come out which look interesting).
Oh! And we did measurements, and I lost 6". Not sure if I'm measuring right though. Luckily, only one of those inches came off my boobs. Since those are the first to go (good-bye ladies!), I'm kind of happy that they're hanging around.

I weighed in yesterday and was down another 1.4lbs. for a total loss of 21.8 lbs! I am so proud of myself. Thanks to JC, I managed to lose weight over the HOLIDAYS! I don't think that has ever happened before.
I have a question, though. I am having some major surgery the first week of February and will be unable to get around for about a month. Should I continue to try to stick with JC during this time? I had a similar surgery a couple of years ago and remember not having an appetite for a couple of months, in fact I lost 20 lbs due to the effects of anesthesia, medication and loss of appetite.

Hi everyone!!!
welcome to new people!
I've been pretty much off jcc food and (yay) i'm still holding steady!!
A lot of my old bad habits creep in - but i definately notice myself implementing things i've learned- like breakfast- no matter what, and then lunch etc.. i used to think it was great if i could go without a meal, but i've learned that is what messes me up the most. its like we say slow and steady- this is portion control and consistancy!
this way if i eat even when i'm not really hungry- then i won't get crazy over hungry and eat everything in sight later.
we're leaving tomorrow for vacation. we're going on a cruise- a nightmare for food. but i have plans in place to continue my walking and excercise biking and maybe yoga? i think just the mere fact that i am aware will help me a lot. and when we get back- maybe a week or two back on all jc if i need to get back on track.
it took me forever to find you guys here- but i'm so glad i did. its been a good diversion for a while as i absolutely hate traveling and the day before is pretty hard. once i'm there i'll be good.
and also yay- i fit into some bathing suits and dresses that i've packed!!
hugs- candygirl

Just checking back to see what's going on....
Welcome to our new members, Karen TIG and Catwoman61943/Monica. You both have tremendous numbers this week. Karen, we used to live in Marina del Rey when DH has his last tour of duty in the navy at the Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAX). So beautiful.... every day seemed like vacation! Monica, you are so right... JC totally rocks!
bbest, you have every right to be proud! That really is an accomplishment. Sorry to hear that you are having surgery. I know when I'm in recovery mode, I tend to eat canned soups and frozen food anyway, so why not have your Jenny food? Make a big pot of soup before you go in and portion it into smaller containers. That will take care of the veggies. Get some fresh and canned fruits and yogurt, too. You really need to eat well to heal. Don't worry about the scale... it will all even out after your back on your feet.
heathermom, it's good to see you back after the holidays. So sweet that you are keeping the Monday WI schedule. Fifteen inches gone forever is amazing!! You've got to be buying smaller clothing now, no?
Candy Girl, so glad that you popped in for a visit. I sent you a PM, but wanted to say hey here, too! You've learned a lot, and we'll need your insights for our success and maintenance. Thank you for being so generous!
Time to get dinner on the table... how sweet is it that I don't have to fret about what to make or how much to eat!!!
Hi Monday buddies. Congratulations to all, everyone lost over the holidays...AMAZING! I was convinced I'd gained - and ended up losing not only the 2 I'd gained the previous week (x-mas) but 3 more for a total of 5 lbs. Not sure how that happened but I'll take a loss anyway I can get it.

Have a great week all.

Hi everyone
Looks like everyone is starting the year off on the right foot. I gained 1.6 over the holidays and then had another weigh in this past Monday (only 4 days in between) and lost .7 so I'm almost back to before Xmas.
I changed counsellors recently and feel that this new one is better educated about the program as she is older than myself and has lost 60 lbs on JC. My other one was a skinny 20 something young girl, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I've lost 10.4 pds since I started and I'm thrilled with that.
Now, I leave tomorrow night for just over 2 weeks in the Caribbean. We will be on our sailboat with 2 other couples and going out 1/2 the time for meals. I want to not gain but I don't want to go without too much as this is really a big trip to us. I have packed my JC cereals for breakfast as then I can have them and not feel that I'm giving up too much. I have also packed a bunch of snacks as I know the others are buying chips and snacks so hopefully I can resist and eat my JC portions. I figure when we go out for dinner, I'll always start with a salad and if having desert, my husband & I will share it so therefore I'm not eating the whole thing.
I guess I'll also get a lot more exercise in too as we'll be moving around and walking etc and I haven't started my exercising with Jenny yet.
Well good luck everyone and I'll be back on after the weigh in on the 25th of January, maybe crying the blues to you but hopefully not too bad.
P.S. Avia, thanks for the PM, I tried to respond but had problems

Wow....congratulations on everyone's losses!! That's awesome!
Aviva - thank you so much for your pm! I've kind of have taken the last few weeks off and have just been doing whatever and not really caring too much - but I'm back on the program now! I wasn't concerned about the holidays but once they came up it was really hard! I really thought that I had gained 2+ over the last two weeks but ended up losing .4! That was a really big surprise to me!
I feel like that last 6 weeks have been a struggle for me - it's the same few lbs going back and forth. I'm really trying this week to make an effort and push forward and lose weight. My husband brought me a WiiFit for Christmas and I was so excited but had to back off a bit from it because of my ankle problem....oh how frustrating!!
But anyway....it's great seeing everyone's post and welcome to all the newbies! Here's to a great 2009!

Greetings! So good to see familiar names back with us, and the newbies just starting out.
You know those "give a penny/take a penny" things? I'm into "lose a pound/gain a pound" mode again! Earlier in this process, I spent 8 weeks losing and gaining the same two pounds before I had another release of weight. My JCC and I looked at my chart and it seems I'm back in that mode again. I know the losses will eventually happen again, so I'm exercising my patience as well as my body. We're going to try adding a couple of DOMOs to see if that doesn't shake things up. I've been eating a rather monotonous/predictable menu for the past 8 months, so maybe that will help. At least, I'll get some practice cooking and planning days of meals again.
Off to chiropractor and massage. This is my favorite way to spend my Monday!
How did everyone do today?

Hey everyone! Just had my WI and I am a little down. I was down only .4.... I know I should be happy to have a loss at all but Seriously since I added exercise I have totally slowed down. My consultant told me it just takes time for my body to readjust... But I am wondering why I didn't wait to plateau or something and then added exercise, it may sound selfish but I was liking my -3 lbs a week.. Anyway I agreed to continue on my exercise plan and JC plan and give everything a chance to work it self out. But I was so good this week with following the plan and no extras and getting in all my exercise I was really excited to WI today and was dissappointed... Anyway I know the scale is just the scale, but it has been going so great it was hard today to see such a small loss... But I am staying on plan after all I need to put today behind me I am down 22 LBS.... And at the end of the days that is pretty awesome... (see me trying to be positive)
Anyway have a great WI everyone. Until next week!!!

Congratulations again to all - a loss is a loss, and the scales can be fickle! I was down another 3 pounds and am almost at my half-way point. This week will be full of challenges, because DH and I are going away for the long weekend. I worked out an individualized week with my consultant and have traveling breakfasts and lunches but will have dinners out. Problem is, I have no will power at restaurants. I'm hoping to maintain -- wish me luck!

Hi everyone,
I have been weighing in on tuesday last week and this week but I am still here. Aviva, thanks for checking on me.
For the last couple of weeks I have not been wanting to exercise and I finally figured it out after talking with my DH that it has been since my JCC suggested that I add another day. Since then, nothing. I realized that I had been proud of my realistic 3x a week. I want to make this a lifestyle change not just losing weight this time. Anyway, I decided to get back on the treadmill Sunday and I also did it yesterday and am feeling much better. This week my plan is to stick to my Mon, Wed, Fri schedule and maybe later on I will want/need to add another day.
So today, down 1.4 pounds, yay!!! Total of 10.8!! I had also told myself last week that if I lost I would reward myself with the Creative Recipes book so I got that today!!
So glad to hear all of you are still hanging in there too!!

Hey! I actually lost a whole pound this week! Seriously, this is very good. happy happy joy joy....
I'm going to start doing some DOMOs this week. Again, this is glorious news. I've been so jonesing to make some REAL veggie fare. It was snowing today and my car isn't snow-worthy, so I just ran to the local market. They didn't have tempeh or seitan, and they didn't have our favorite Fage yogurt. I'll have to hit Whole Foods or Wegmans tomorrow or Weds. I have a strong feeling that getting a break from the pizza/pasta cycle will also break my plateau.
Kelly -- {{{{HUGS}}}} -- we are SO on the same road! I've been losing 2 pounds per month, if you average it out. At least I weigh less than I did 8 months ago. And with the workouts, I'm getting my girlish figure back. PRICELESS!! SJY is right about mixing things up. Does your JCC have any suggestions? She knows your routine best. If you're not getting the help you need to bust the plateau, search the internet, or PM me for a list of things I read in a booklet that came with my workout DVDs. We can do this! You can't give up until I do! And I ain't giving up until I hit my goal, so hang in there.
Kalico: That's a beautiful avitar! Would you mind sharing the details? Did you take the picture? Who's the lovely girl? I know you have a special little lady in your life, and that you're very creative with the computer. So cool!

I was doing so well each week the first two months it is hard to see it come to such a slow place. But I refuse to get too down about it.... I am determined things will look up soon.

Just a quick note to welcome nyliz.... Glad you're joining us and having such success!
You know I can relate, Heathermom! Are you exercising regularly? You've mentioned that you started to exercise... I know that's why I've been stalled the past couple of weeks. It really is quite a shock to the system. If you've been in a routine the past few weeks, maybe take an extra day off, then switch things around a bit. Are you drinking all your water? DH and I are both finding it difficult with the colder weather to get excited about drinking water, but you just gotta do it. You've been losing so steadily, and adding the exercise, your body probably just needs a little bit to catch up. It'll come around soon! You're doing wonderful healthy things for your body, so keep it up.

Down 2.5! To be fair. I do think it's because I was wearing different clothing than last week (I came straight from pole dancing class, which is super fun), and I wasn't expecting much, since with school and riding, my activity hasn't been as high as I would like. I seem to be losing weight fairly quickly, moreso than it would seem my current weight would indicate. Whatever, I'm not going to complain. Hooray me!

Jan 20 2009, 05:26 AM
Yep! Exercising is a new way of life since the beginning of the month.. I was hoping it would keep things going or even increase weight loss, but instead I have been pretty much the same for about 3 weeks. I was really upset at first, but I know I am doing the work, I know I am doing all that I can to continue to lose weight and I am hoping the scale will catch up soon.... Congrats on the loss this week.. So happy for you, I know you have had a slow time lately and you deserve it.... So I am going to continue to do all that I can. I drink enough water probably borderline too much. I drink it all day long... There is not much else I can do except keep doing what I am doing. If I do not see a loss next week, I am planning to try a different type of exercise and see if that helps... Thanks for the support...

That's a great picture! I was down 1.0 for this week.....I thought it would be more but I'll take the loss instead of a gain! I've really been having problems with not picking at junk food when it's around me. Hi everyone-
back from our cruise, i thought i'd gain with all that food but i actually was down about a 1lb. the boat was pretty rocky and i was so scared i might get seasick that i didn't eat much more than bread and butter the whole time.
so i was pretty proud of that but then... suddenly i got ravenous- just constantly hungry like i was making up for lost time and i can't feel satisfied. i can't feel full until i feel sick. i keep eating bags of candy.
i don't know- a little depressed so maybe its a self sabatoge thing. i'm going to finish off the junk and i have an appt tomorrow ( first since back) and i think i'm going to go back to mostly all jc meals for a bit to get back on track. i need something to help bring my appetite back to normal- cause this is crazy!!
do you ever find ways to bring down an out of control appetite?
anyway- thanks guys- glad to be back.

Dan, you get a Happy Dance from all of us!

Last week, I nearly mentioned that you were close to 60#, but didn't want to jinx it for you. (Yes, I have that much power!

)
PS. Glad that you're feeling better, and got rid of the scary AT bars. Raiders32/Donna, welcome to our cyber family! It does take some time and practice to get it all. I have also found that I crave water. Once your body gets a feeling how wonderful it performs with proper nutrition and hydration, it kinda takes over. We have the same starting and goal weights!
SJY, think of the gain as three pounds of fat-burning muscle! I have to say, that same thing happened to me and it is a bit demoralizing. But we're on this journey for health, not just weight loss, so please stick with it. You'll be stronger and fitter and leaner and meaner. (Well, "meaner" in a good way!) It really is very encouraging when you catch a glimpse of lean muscle on the back of your arm, or your calf. And when you can open jars by yourself!!
Hi,
Candy Girl! Happy you had a loss

, not so happy about your feeling off-kilter

. How proud you should be of yourself for getting to your Center and getting back on JC! Very smart. A few days of the familiar routine and lots of fruits, veggies and water will get your appetite regulated again. Then you can step away from the candy. Too bad you didn't get to eat healthy meals on your trip; guessing that's why you're so hungry now. Like I said to Donna, once your body gets spoiled by good eats and water, that's all it wants. Where was your cruise? We did our "cruise to nowhere" Saturday and the winds were moderate gale with 8 ft seas. They kept close to the NJ shoreline, so we weren't really affected until they turned to go back to NYC, but I could understand how those conditions in open water could be uncomfortable. (Although I'm probably trying to overlay my sailing experiences

on the cruise ship.) Wondering if we were both affected by this nasty storm that's brewing.
As I said, we did our cruise. TONS of walking, never took the elevator. After we got there I realized I forgot the pedometer. We had small meals, walked, exercised in the fitness center, and even enjoyed a couple adult beverages. Funny how we crammed so much into just one night! Today, I weighed in 0.5 less than last week. Oh, I nearly forgot... did a DOMO last week! It was so much fun cooking again. Seriously, this whole time I haven't cooked except for two holiday dinners. And I LOVE cooking! Maybe having a "taste" of normal life will get me motivated to drop the rest of my extra weight. I'm really not needing it anymore!

Aviva- sounds like you made the most of a quick vacation! 8 ft seas sounds kind of high to me- but if you are used to sailing i guess it wouldn't bother you. i'm very impressed you took the stairs- i could only get hubby to take the stairs down not up so i only went up a few times.
i decided before we left that i would choose a treat like ice cream or a frozen drink. i stuck to the frozen drinks ( mostly without the alcohol) so even though i didn't really eat- i did have my nightly treat that felt like vacation.
i definately think i felt hungry from not eating for a week ( and a little complacent having gone down)
well, i finished up the candy i'd bought and went off to my WI. ( yes there really is a reason for my name) up a lb or so ( i try not to look too closely) but i came home and ate a jc meal. if i can get through tonight i think i'lll be good.
and oddly enough, refocusing on this project seems to have lifted the doldrums a bit.
hey Dan- that's awesome- i wish i could make fireworks for you like you did for me but i'm not so good at this techno stuff- but know i am celebrating ( and i love the happy dance too!)
btw- what's a DOMA?
hi to everybody!

Dan Congrats!!!!! That must feel soooo good! So happy for you! You cruise ladies, I think you are awesome for making the extra effort on your vacation.. And welcome Donna. I just got home from my WI and I lost 1.9!!! Finally, it has been amazing how stuck the scale has been lately.. But I do feel better with adding the exercise. I also bought a pedometer, just checking out how many steps I take in a day and plan to make some walking goals soon. I hit my exercise goal of 640 minutes of cardio this month. 40 minutes 4 times per week. That was a great feeling. I am not going to get to my out of the 180's goal this month. But I am realizing that I did everything in my power to get there and it is ok... I am on my way to a healthier life and that is the main goal.
I also got myself some new inspiration. I bought a pair of jeans that just fit. I can get them done up, but no way would I wear them, they are tooo tight. But when the scale is not moving I want something else to use to measure some success. I know my body is changing from all the exercise and even if the scale isn't moving as quickly as I would like, the day I wear those jeans in public, I will not care what the number on the scale is..
CONGRATS to all of us LOSERS!!!!!!

DOMO -- Day on My Own / The full-day version of MOMO (Meal on My Own) / An opportunity to challenge yourself!
Heathermom -- You get a mini-dance this week for hanging tough through the plateau

I'm blown away by the fact that 40 minutes of cardio 4 times a week for a month is 640 minutes! That sounds like a crazy number, but there it is. Good for you!! Okay, another happy dance:

Hi everyone!
All the cruise talk makes me want to take one...tomorrow!! Hope Aviva and Candy Girl had fun, despite high seas and turbulent oceans. Thanks for the pep talk on the muscle Aviva. Heathermom - I did the same thing last week as you. I bought a pair of jeans and a pair of work pants that technically fit but are just a few pounds away from being taken out in public. I'm hoping to be in them in 2 weeks.
This week I lost what I gained last week, but am happy about that. I think my hormones must be playing havoc with my body composition right now. My consultant thinks I can get to my half way mark next week. I think it is a bit ambitious but I like the challenge.
Have a great week all.
