This response is for anyone who is just starting the plan. The first 3 weeks are usually on a controlled menu. After the first 3 weeks you can pick and choose from the order sheet that is provided at your centre. The order sheet contains all the pricing.
You need to remember that the Jenny food replaces what you would normally eat if not on the plan. So the cost for the Jenny food should also replace the cost of buying regular groceries and eating out. For those with a family to feed, paying for the Jenny plan and buying food for the family can be a financial challenge. It's probably something that should be discussed with your family members. Financial compromises in the family budget may need to be made if you are serious about losing weight and just don't think you can do it any other way.
Also think about the other money you are spending that might be cut back. Think of the recipes that Jenny has on this website. Maybe those Jenny recipes could be incorporated into the family meals to help cut some costs on groceries, this way you can eat with the family, just follow the portion control guidelines found on page 75 of the "Success Made Simple" booklet. They are called the visual cues for serving sizes.
Think about it for a minute... wouldn't you normally spend $130 a week or more in groceries and eating out if you weren't on the plan? The reason it seems high is because when you eat out you don't normally count that money as grocery money. If the family limits the amount of eating out, this can save some money as well.
For those with families... it's all up to you and your family to decide how to help you make your weight-loss a success. They are in this with you so they should share in the decisions about the cost to help you reach your goal.
The supplimental foods of veggies, fruits and non-fat yogurt will cost you about another $30 a week. (I prefer the low-fat yogurt over the skim milk.) Check the labels on the yogurt, if you prefer yogurt. There are many brands, including the grocery store brand. The light brands have fewer calories and less sugar. I go for the lowest on both.
Maybe you can figure out which meal of the day is the hardest to diet on and buy those foods from the Jenny centre, then incorporate the Jenny recipes into the rest of your meals. Remember, the recipes are nutritiously sound for anyone, it doesn't mean that your family can't eat them too. And if there is something they really like that you shouldn't have, then that could be a special treat you could make for them. It's sensible eating with portion control... that's the key. The Jenny food covers both the sensible, low-fat eating with portion control. Jenny Craig takes the guesswork out of what to eat to make it easier for you to lose weight. That's why the cost seems high.
Just my opinion - not trying to tell people what to do - just a suggestion.
