Full Version: Drinking a beer and I'm losing more weight?!?!?!?

I am leaving for Oktobefest in Munich Germany in less than 2 weeks. I am in my 7th week on JC. At my last weigh in I was just under 20lbs lost, yeah! My weight lose in the being was great but my last 2 weigh ins were less than 2 lbs each time.

Needless to say, I have to do some sort or training for the beerfest OR ELSE I'm in serious trouble. I don't want to get too drunk:). Long story short, I was told I could substitute a light beer for my salad dressing fat. I am drinking Beck's light which is only 64 calories a bottle. This is about half of a normal light beer has. I was not drinking them the last 2 days before my weigh in. But I would have one or two on the eveing after my weigh in.
2 weeks in a row, I lost at least a pound of more the next morning.

Come to think of it, I hardly ever put dressing on my salads, so maybe I wasn't getting enough fat and I NEED the beer:)??? So this week I am enjoying a beer or two a night, and I have lost 3 pounds in 4 days. I am thinking I like this;)

Who needs salad dressing when you can have a beer?

I just wanted to point out that while you substitute alcohol for fat, there is no fat in alcohol. I enjoy a glass of wine a couple times a week, and it hasn't affected my weight loss.

I think I'll stick to my salad dressings. Beer is nasty stuff, IMHO!!! wacko.gif blink.gif

Whatever works for you, especially short term. I'm sure you'll enjoy Oktoberfest!!!

Your body needs FAT, not alcohol. Salad dressing has fat because it enables you to absorb the nutrients in salad. Those are "fat-soluable" vitamins.... they can't be broken down by the body without the adjoining fat. Fat also lubricates your joints, contributes to healthy tears, and keeps your hair, skin, and nails looking good. Beer is an ok substitution occasionally, but I'd recommend having a healthy fat more often than beer. If the JC salad dressing isn't your thing, try adding olives, nuts, or avocado to your salads.

I have always incooperated "imbibing" a bit along with JC. Although "drinking" is not for everyone out there, I understand that. There is no fat in beer or in my case vodka and it is also a startch. If you are able to lose and have your beer then IMO no reason to change what is working for you. If I decide to have a cocktail I do not have dessert. It has worked for me. I have never heard of training for a beer fest but sounds fun to me tongue.gif
You do need to be careful that you don't drink and let your guard down and find yourself eating more. Enjoy your trip to Germany! Now what are you going to do about the sausages? biggrin.gif

Munich for Oktoberfest sounds SUPER fun!!
I'd plan to take good, comfortable walking shoes and get LOTS of walking/hiking/siteseeing in. And then really do it. make a point of it when you get there! Check the weather too, so your clothing options are covered.

That will help offset the FestHaus some! Enjoy and remember PORTION sizes (visual reminders of JC/correct sizes) for foods. And LOTS of water between brewsky's!

i drink 8-10 light beers every day and i still lose weight on jenny craig. it has no effect on my weight loss. it is considered "empty calories".

Wow= that's really interesting!
I enjoy my fav alcoholic bev- and have continued to lose weight. Slowly, but nevertheless I too am still losing- But I do not kid myself into the "empty calorie" concept. Other than that "empty calories" are a way to describe food/bev of very minimal nutritional value. You get the calories, but not much else!

One 12.2 fl. oz. bottle of Bud Light has 110 calories. 6.6 g carb, 9 mg. sodium, .9 gm protein. (www.calorieking.com)
You do the math.
Even if you chose to cut your beer consumption by half ( have four vs. eight light beers) each day- you could lose very close to another pound per week. (by not consuming the extra 3,080 empty calories in that beer.)
That would result in approx. 50 lbs. in one year, while happily NOT giving up your enjoyment of an ice cold light beer.

Not passing judgement, or anything like that.
It is just fun to see what even giving up ONE can of soda, beer or whatever per day (small doable changes) can add up to in one week- and the numbers are amazing when you look at it from "a year from now" perspective.
Wishing you all the best!
