Sarabethmo,
I don't have US prices, but ask your consultant - they have them. The order form that they fill in and enter your items into the computer has the prices on it.

I got a price list from my consulant. Lunch items $3.99-$5.39 Dinner items $5.39-$699 They even charge .50 for syrup-it should b included with pancakes/f toast meals. I've just started but I have to cut my cost also. I purchased the anytime bars, vol soup the first time. I did not like them at all so I won't b buying them again

I was told at JC that the non frozen items were cheaper. At this point with JC there are certain foods I wont get because its too expensive. The salmon dinner is $8.00, breakfast scramble is almost $5.00. My goal is to keep my total to no more than $110. a week

Here is a list of foods off of my Price list for the US. If there is anything that I missed please let me know and I will get it for you. You can also ask your JCC. I know some people have had difficulty getting the price list from some centers. I would still recommend asking your JCC for one. I use mine everytime I place an order. Good Luck

Ways I cut costs:
- I buy boxed cereal and measure it out into plastic baggies. I can get 12 - 13 servings for under $3.00
- I only buy my favorite JC foods and find comparable super market buys
- I buy my own dressings and syrup
- I buy my own vitamins
I only spend between $30 - $70 a week at JC depending on my weekly budget. I'm self-employed and have fluctuations in cash flow so this has worked out pretty good for me.
I don't recommend cutting too many corners to beginners. I've been on the program for over a year and a half and I think the planned menus were critical to my initial weight loss. When I hit a plateau, I go back to planned menus to kick my body back in gear again.
Cheers,
Heather

What about buying the 100 cal.snacks. They have several of them out. I buy my own syrup, dressing and now popcorn. I'm thinking of dropping the cheese curls and stuff and going to the 100 cal packs. Does anyone know how they compare?
Heather, what kind of cereal do u buy?? and how much do u put into each bag?

Heres a tip--cut back on cost by eliminating some of the snacks and supplimenting with your own--for example, you can have 3 cups of air popcorn you make yourself in place on any snack, so I eliminate having to buy 3 snacks a week....hope this helps

I buy the 100 calories snacks at the grocery store, have my own cereal ( Go Lean which was recommended by my consultant), I don't buy the soupitizers, and I have my own dressings. I am not sure if my dressings are really saving me that much money, but they taste better and have better stats as you can see below.
Does anyone have any advice for shopping at costco to save on produce? I went there today and this really didn't help my expenditures. thnks.

I like how i kept hearing that the average cost of food is about $10 a day.. now.. i'm no rocket scientist, but wouldn't that be $70 per week? why am i paying so much more then? I bet there's an Astrick next to that $10 saying that only counts buying 2 meals a day.. and no snacks.. or vitamins.. or 50 cent syrup..

Where are you hearing that information? Jenny Craig is advertised as being $12 to $18 per day depending on your specific food choices. I have never heard $10 per day.

I also use the "100 calories packs" instead of JC snacks. JC snacks are empty (indulge) calories, intended to offer nothing in the way of nutrition, but to maybe satisfy a craving for salty, sweet, crunchy, gooey. Basically what you'll get out of the 100 calorie packs at the market. Just make sure fat content is about the same.
I'm another one who buys cereal and measures out a cup rather than buying JC cereal. Fiber One (the one with clusters and flakes) is one that I like.
I skip the syrup, too. I think the French Toast is fine with just the fruit poured over it, and I think the pancakes are sweet enough, as is. I eat them as finger food (you can do that when you don't use syrup) and save the last two pancakes to eat with the sausage as a little sandwich.
Many people dislike the more affordable, shelf-stable foods, but I think they're fine. So, try 'em, and see if you can fit them into your weekly menu for some savings.

This is my first post, but I have been a Jenny Craig client for 18 months. Lost 68 pounds so far. As far as the cost of food goes, I agree with the money saving tips offered so far, but one word of caution that I might add. When looking for snacks it is really important that you get as much fiber in them as possible. My rule of thumb is the recommendation of 25 grams of fiber per day. So, I add up how much fiber is in each meal and snack. I can only do this if I'm checking the fiber content of snack I'm eating which I've purchased at the grocery store. Some suggestions are applesauce with added fiber, yogurt with added fiber, high fiber cereal, single serve micro. popcorn, fiber-one bars (and other fiber one products), plus sliced vegetables with either salsa or guacamole. These are probably less expensive than the single serve JC products if purchased at the grocery store.

Dorothymom - great advice to look for snacks that have a decent fiber content. But, if you're replacing JC snacks with super market snacks of equal "value", the fiber content really isn't that key. JC snacks aren't exactly fiber-rich. I don't a bunch of them in front of me to look at, but I don't know if any of them have more than, say 2g at best. I WISH JC snacks were more loaded, nutritionally. I sure would feel a lot better about eating them...

Ask your consultant. They have a list when you order that they check off, the prices are on there. Also, the calories for each item is on the website under nutritional information. I use that to substitute some things like lean pockets for the stuffed sandwiches.
Good Luck!

I also find that buying fruits and vegetables at the grocery store is extremely expensive -I'm not a fan of canned or frozen, so always find myself loading up in the produce section . I have recently switched to a local farmers market - and the food is fresher and cost me about 1/2 of what I was spending on the same items at the grocery store (not to mention supporting my local farmers!). this has helped me save a little and purchase more of the JC food. Not only that, the farmers market has a much better selection of items.....
I substitute the cereals - I like the cheerios multi-grain and they are very comparable to JC - actually 60 calories less per 1 cup serving....and I have fruit for my afternoon snack everyday (alternate between fresh and dried). Twice a week I air pop my own popcorn, Twice a week I have a fresh fruit for my evening snack, Twice a week I will eat a 100 calorie pack (just to satisfy that sweet tooth) and the 7th night, if I have lost at least 2 pounds that week, I will have a "regular" snack with my family - the exception now is that instead of eating the entire boston creme pie - I take about 4 or 5 SMALL bites...Thats my only food reward for the week - some weeks I get it , some weeks I don't!
I've committed to only one can of diet coke a day (this was huge for me - a 12 pack usually lasted 2 days!!) - so now I'm spending only $4 once a week instead of $24 (that's an average of 4 - 5 lunches from JC)
I also don't go to the gym - I invested in an elliptical, and take walks every day - Pilates videos work just as good as any $25 class I could go to....
I've only been doing JC for 5 weeks - and I'm 11.6 pounds lighter than when i started. Not only is this the first time I've ever stuck to a lifestyle/weightloss change in my life! I am halfway to my halfway point! slow and steady wins the race - just keep your eye on the prize - re-prioritize where your money goes - YOU are worth every penny!

I dont' buy the snacks as I find them expensive. I substitute with fruit cups (in own juice) and yogurt. I also indulge in the sugar free pudding which is 90 calories and the new book states it is a limited choice. I also make JC soup, Tuscan style which is great. I use chicken stock instead of water and I add carrots and don't add cheese as it isn't necessary. It is a great hit at home as well. It's very filling and it's free.

I also buy WW frozen foods that are close to JC food count, especially when the ww foods are on sale 50% off.. I only buy the JC foods (mainly some breakfasts & dinners) that I like the other meals I sub.lunches with the WW foods. My cake snacks I usually get the sugar-free tastycakes 8 in box usually runs about 4.00.. Being that food is so expensive and I am on a budget, this works for me...Try spending only about 50.00 a week at Jenny..

I am a single girl on a very strict budget so I needed to cut cost where ever I could. I pay about 70-85 a week. My consultant works on commision but I told her its best I buy a little than nothing at all, So I only eat the lunch's and dinners. I dont buy and snacks, breakfast, or bars.
100-150 cal(I really enjoy the fiber one bars, they have chocolate and I need it! lol)
I eat cereal with fruit and 1cup skim milk. It should be between 100-200 cal per serving.
Instead of the protien bars at 15$ a box I eat:
1Cup fat free yogurt
2Cup spinach
1tsp cashews (about three)
1/4cup apricots
Try to get as much fiber in as possible
Hope this helps!!

I got the impression that the JCCs (mine anyway) don't WANT to give out the actual prices of food etc. Last week I showed up a few minutes early, no one was up front but there was a pad of the price list on the counter so I just took one and looked at it later - I'm a returning member BTW.
The prices have increased SIGNIFICANTLY from the last time I was doing the program (Aug 2007-July 2008). One would think that during a recession the prices would go DOWN but there ya go.
As it turns out my husband is only working part-time at the moment so I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks...that said, I have noticed in the past that when I try and portion out my own stuff I don't lose as quickly.
At this point I might stop buying the cereal at $2.19 a serving and opt for my own choices - which would be Fiber One original and Go Lean, portioned out in baggies.
The snacks are easy since there seem to be more and more 100-calorie snacks every time I go to the store

although I do adore the JC Cheesecakes and Double Chocolate Cake...so I will keep buying them as i haven't found a substitute for them in the store.
I was FLABBERGASTED that the Southwest Chicken Burrito had increased in price from $3.99 to $5.29...not on my list anymore. Fortunately the Broccoli/Cheese Tater is *only* $4.39 (the cheapest lunch item and one of my favorites anyway). So I guess I'll be eating a lot of taters at lunch.

Since I'm halfway to my goal at this point I'm not being pressured to buy 7 days worth of food...thank goodness.
The problem with buying the WW and LC's is that they have more calories and sodium than the JC stuff...like I said I think I tend to lose quicker if I stick with the Jenny products, but my wallet doesn't need to get any skinnier at this point!
And I won't even go into the fact that they are charging SO MUCH for the itsy bitsy Dining Out Success Guide...
