Hi! I injured my toe right before I joined JC, and I am wondering if there is some kind of exercise I could do without putting too much stress on my foot?

A consultant at our center mentioned exercise tv, along the lines of an ab workout in a chair, but I cannot seem to find it.

Help?! THANKS SO MUCH!

Options:

stationary bike (if its just a toe injury and your doc says ok).

swimming if you can get to a pool.

Resistance bands, or any weight routine with machines or free weights.

Ab work is good, always.

Jen has great suggestions, but I would add push through the heel if you use the bike. Do you have bike shoes? They are inflexible and really supportive for using your heel more, if you have them or can get your foot into them.

Speedy recovery!

I vote for any and all water exercises! You don't have to do impact motions, such as jumping jacks, or 'marching in place', etc., in the water. Just moving your legs through the water is such a good workout. If you can get into a pool (such as at your local YMCA/ YWCA), you have a ready-made workout area. If you have a hot tub, or can use a friend's hot tub (or again, one at the local Y), this is ideal for leg and foot injuries. Just sit on a seat and gently move your legs in the water from side to side, or up and down, or in circles. I do this to music and my muscles are in great toned-up shape. By the way, I have three artificial joints so I developed my own workout program with the help of my ortho surgeon.

Depending on the nature of your foot injury, I would avoid putting pressure on it such as in riding a bike or using the eliptical machine, until the injury is much better. You didn't mention what your injury is/was, but if it's in the bones of your foot, be really careful with putting stress on it until the fracture is thoroughly healed.

Hope this helps you!
