Hi. I am riding half of the Portland Century bike ride next week (50 miles), and am looking for advice from some of the wise out there about what to eat without shocking my body or eating too much.

I rode 25 miles yesterday barhopping with friends and felt GREAT... Added about 1000 calories to the day but those mostly came from Guinness. biggrin.gif (Hey long ride-days are the only days I let myself have beer!)

This is going to be the longest ride I've done yet and I am not really sure about what I should eat. I'm planning on taking it at a slow to moderate pace. I'm at the 1500 level on JC. Any advice?

I have done many centuries. 2 days before the ride carb load, for a 50 miler add 300 calories each day of carbs. Eat like you normally do, don't change any eating or drinking habits this close to the event. During the event stop at each resting station eat something salty(they normally will have peanut butter sandwiches or begals or petzels and drink plenty of water. After the ride eat something even if you don't feel like it. Rode my first century in 2005 in 6 hours..what a blast!! There are photos of me in my first century in my before and after photos.

Pace yourself and have lots of fun.

I'm so glad I found this, thank you! I am riding 75 miles on Saturday in the BikeMS City to the Shore ride. My friends are trying to get me to do the century...we'll see how I feel on Saturday morning! LOL!

Fantastic pics, truly truly an inspiration! Way to go!
