I shunned fruits for several years while I would do Low Carb...I never really liked fruit much anyway.
Since I've started JC, I've really learned to enjoy apples. I didn't realize the variety of apples could taste so different. I just love a good tart, sweet, juicy apple!!
So far my favorite is Gala apples...I tried one called ...I think it was Brayborn or something like that...it was delicous! I also like Pink Lady.
I like to divide a slice or two of fat free cheese into quarters and eat them on my apple slices. I love using my apple slicer...it makes it so easy to slice and eat!
Do you have a favorite apple?

Fuji apples are my favorite, but I have been buying the granny smith to make baked apples in the microwave.

Oh wow, I love a few different types equally.
Cameo, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Braeburn
They are crisp and sweet.

Braeburns here. Although currently in between crops from New Zealand and Chili. Not sure which I prefer. They don't seem quite as firm and crisp this time of year... there's a few weeks in the summer when the suppliers switch over... here at least (AZ).

Can I say: whatever is on sale?! I'll be honest, the price of fruits and veggies is starting to really go insane, and its hard to afford JC and the fresh stuff. This week we are eating Galas, which were on sale...last week was Empire (for me). Fuji are excellent and if you can get them, macintosh are very yummy (they are more of a NE apple, I think).
The only one I'm not overly fond of are red or green delicious---they can be delicious, but sometimes they are too mushy. Empires are tart as well. My kids' favorite is Gala.

Jen- I gotta totally agree w/ you! Prices of produce have gone bezerk! I love gala apples, but a one week supply was costing me $10. I've since moved on to seedless watermelon since I can buy a whole watermelon for $4 and that will last me all week. How sad b/c I do so love my apples.

I love McCoons for eating... crisp and sweet... but I think Macintosh apples are by far the best for baking because they are slightly tart!

Red Delicious and Granny Smith are about the only two I'll eat, because they're not too sweet. And they better be crisp and juicy, because there's not much worse than a mealy apple.

I've enjoyed reading about everyone's favorite apples! i bought some Jazz Apples today and they remind me of the Braborns I've tried recently. I hear what some are saying about the price. Between my sons and me, we have gone through a lot of apples...I bought a dozen for the upcoming week and I think the total rung up to something like 17.77!! They were 2.89 a pound I think...
I'd rather pay a little extra and get apples I really enjoy...but they are getting more pricey.

Fuji are the very best. It makes me sad when I can't get good ones!

I vote for Fuji! The best suggestion I can make is if you live close to a little veggie stand where local farmers sell fruits and vegis (like here in WA) its worth going out of your way to go there. You save tons of $ and you support your local farmers.

Thanks for the tip Zed...that is a good idea...I'll have to check around and see where some locals sell their stuff. I'm so suprised that I like apples as much as I do now...that's a great thing about JC, I'm learning to change what I really love to eat.
Plus, it takes me a long time to eat an apple...that's a good thing too...I bought one of those wonderful apple slicers and that separates it from the core and puts it into 8 nice slices...yummmmmmm
I'm going to have to try Fuji and Granny Smith. So far Gala, Braeborn and Jazz apples are my favorite...though I think Jazz apples may not be available all the time...
Sometimes I eat fat free american cheese with my apples...that's a dairy serving for me...I think.

All the of the ones that you mentioned are my favorite: Pink Lady, Braeburn, Gala. The ones that are red, pink, and green are the best eating ones I find.

Honeycrisp apples are TO DIE FOR *drool* but they are seasonal, unfortunately. They should be here very soon, though!!

Personally, I like "Granny Smiths'. But the best apple is any that are fresh, hard, crisp, and chilled before eating!!

Pink Lady apples are my favorite. Second is Granny Smith (I like my G.S. apples chilled and with some extra sharp cheddar cheese on the side).

Pink Lady apples are the absolute best I think! OMG... they taste like biting into a big ball of apple juice, rich and sweet and sooooo satisfying...
Mmmmmm....

Fuji Fuji Fuji Apples....always and only....I only like other varieties of apples if the apple is coated in chocolate or caramel...which in that case the apple is only there for the crunch.
So while on JC...

I haven't seen one in awhile, but I LOVE the ambrosia apples. Jazz apples are also good...usually I buy Gala at Trader Joes. I also like granny smith when I am in the mood for something tart.
