Full Version: Chocolate Cake!

My consultant recommended splitting it in half lengthwise and using a little lower fat peanut butter on it. Last night I just used a teaspoon of peanut butter and smeared it on (I was lazy and didn't bother to split it). Then I squirted a bit of spray whipped cream on it.

Oh. My. Goodness! It was like eating a super yummy peanut butter cup!! I think I even cried it little...it was that good!

Definitely doing that again....and trying to remember to save an extra fat in my day so I don't feel guilty adding the peanut butter rolleyes.gif

That, along with a hot cup of coffee, made me so happy!

What a great idea! I like the chocolate cake, but I do think it can taste a bit bland sometimes...this should be the perfect cure, as I LOVE peanut butter!

Thanks!

Another way it tastes good is to heat 1-2 tsp. of pure fruit spread - strawberry is my favorite - until melted. Spread over the bottom half of the cake, top with nonfat whipped topping, add top half of cake. It adds moisture to the cake. The fruit spread can be used as one of your fruit allotments for the day as well.

I eat veggies at lunch with no dressing -- just so I can save a fat! I also put the peanut butter on top. Smear it around in the chocolate and be sure you LICK THE KNIFE!!! But WAIT!..... Microwave it for 15 secs AND THEN put the whipped cream on (limited free!!). I do this 3 or 4 time a week. It's also extremely yummy if you use the brownie!! It actually keeps me on plan during the day to know that I have this treat coming at the end of the day!! biggrin.gif

Oooohhh....fruit spread! Also a great idea. I love raspberry and chocolate.... I will definitely get out and buy some raspberry jam tomorrow.

And nuking it.... also a great idea! Thanks, guys!!

I feel so ashamed. How could I have been eating the plain cake for so long? I feel like such a fool. smile.gif

Don't buy jam made with jelly - make sure it is pure fruit spread or you can't count it as one of your fruits. At least that is what my consultant told me.

Under the "Limited Free Foods" list, under "fat-free condiments," you can use 1 TB of low-sugar jelly for free (up to 3 servings per day).

Or if you prefer the real fruit spread, you can trade your fruit.

I like the real fruit spread better, but I like being able to eat my 2 fruits every day.... so I'll probably get a low sugar jelly to use on my cake, just for flavor.

Gosh - I need more coffee. I meant to write "don't buy jam made with SUGAR..." smile.gif

Know what else is good? The JC Lemon Cake- with pineapple tidbits/chunks!
Put one serving of pineapple in a bowl. Top with the cake and nuke for about a 45 sec- 1 minute. Depends on your microwave, and hwo hot you want the cake/fruit.

It's like warm pineapple upside down cake.

OMG, I must be PSYCHIC, I was JUST thinking about putting peanut butter on my chocolate cake YESTERDAY but realized that I hadn't planned for it so I wimped out on it!! I have been thinking about it ever since and then I saw this thread. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Great minds think alike, huh? biggrin.gif

I am DEFINITELY going to do this next time. I often eat salad with fat free dressing (homemade - much better than bottled) so I will pick a day when I've done that to try it.

Thanks for the pineapple suggestion with the lemon cake. My fave way of eating it is with blueberries and some strawberry syrup over it - Don't laugh, it's AWESOME. I also made an orange/maple sauce for it that tasted fabulous too. Just mix a small amount of orange juice with some sugar free maple flavored syrup, then add a small squirt of skim milk and mix in a small sacuepan over low heat until it bubbles, stirring until thick and creamy. Then pour over the lemon cake. AWESOME!!!!

the first week I joined I had read these boards and found that tip w/ peanut butter. OMG, I've been doing this once a week since!!! I also added the FF whip cream on top. To me it seems like such an indulgence to eat so I limit it to once a week!!

I've got strawberry fruit spread to try.....but the PB just looks so good!

I once made a dessert using the choc cake- and added 1/2 cup light choc chip ice cream to it and some fat free whipped topping too. It was yummy and almost felt like something I would order in a restaurant. Was quite the special treat

So I went to the store and bought some low sugar fruit preserves (raspeberry & strawberry... yum!) but I can't seem to try them with the chocolate cake because I have a serious addiction to the peanut butter. It's seriously becoming a problem! I know the fruit will be so good with the cake... I have promised myself to try it this week and nix the peanut butter at least once. I try to only eat this treat twice a week because it feels naughty!

For the first time this week, I tried the cake with low-sugar strawberry preserves...oh my gosh, was it ever good!!! I am a huge peanut butter lover, but believe it or not, I think I like it with the strawberry preserves even better, YUM! I will definitely be trying that again (and again, and again, and again...) smile.gif

I just tried the reduced fat Jif on the cake and wowee, that was great! I am going to do this often now. Thanks so much for the tip. I'll try the fruit spread next! smile.gif

Loved the Chocolate Cake with PB, thanks for the tip! I was actually giving up on the chocolate cake until I read this!

With the lemon cake, I like to cut it up, add mandarin oranges, lite cool whip, and put it in a nice water goblet (aka. wine glass). I'm a serious chocoholic, but this is now at the top of my list.

It's official, I only want to eat the chocolate cake & lemon cake anymore. (although I do occasionally have that new red, white & blue cheesecake!)

I put a bit of PB on the choc cake & heat it for 15 sec in the microwave & add a squirt of whipped cream. Then I let my eyes roll back in my head while I enjoy it with a cup of coffee.

AND...

For the lemon cake I add a little orange marmalade or cherry preserves or strawberry preserves or raspberry preserves (less than a tsp of any of them) PLUS a squirt of whipped cream. ALL are sooooo good. I adore the orange marmalade most. And those are yummy with a cup of hot tea.

I'm telling you, these treats alone make this program PERFECT for me. I don't dare cheat during the day so I can savor my dessert at night. rolleyes.gif

I was sitting waiting for my consultation today and the peanut butter tip was on the video that was playing! I've read it on here and keep meaning to try it. Well, I had it tonight and it was DELISH!! It makes me not miss peanut butter cups so much!! Now I'm kind of sorry I got the lemon cake this week! I should try the pineapple with it... smile.gif

The icing on the cake needs to be spread out more evenly (Like the lemon cake frosting). Also, I'd
like to see a yellow cake with chocolate icing. The double chocolate isn't bad though.

Tried the lemon cake with pineapple today. It was good...but I think I might like it better cold. Next time! smile.gif

LOVE this idea. I teach kindergarten and work in a nut-free classroom because of student allergies- and was wondering HOW I would fit my PB servings in- I will save them for my chocolate cake! Can't wait to try it next week. I am usually a fan of all things chocolate frosted- but I found the cake to be a bit dry when I tried it last week. I think the warming up and PB will help!

so glad these boards are here...

You won't be disappointed- tried this 2 nights ago, and OMG....the cake w/ the peanut butter is just like a guilt-free peanut butter cup. I ate it in a million small bites, and was the most gratified I've felt since starting the program.

The Choc. Cake with Peanut Butter is amazing.

The Lemon cake is also good with jam/fruit spread (whatever you prefer). I slice mine down the middle (lengthwise) spread 1 tablespoon of fruit spread (no sugar added) and 1 tablespoon of FF cool whip. My favorite is with Trader Joes Raspberry fruit spread (no sugar added) and FF cool whip…its like having a cross between a raspberry lemonade and strawberry shortcake. I have also used blueberry and strawberry cool whip.
Nells
I had it for dessert tonite and I threw some berries on it. It was so yummy AND filling.
