Hi! I'm Ginny and I started on March 4th. My first Jenny appt was the evening of March 3rd, after regaining 15 of 30 pounds that I had lost on the 6 Week Body Make Over program. I just got fed up with the struggle of dieting and wanted something fast, simple, and easy.

Two gals I work with were on the Jenny program, and they said it was "Grab and go". So, I bit the bullet and joined them.

I find the food good, and it is truly grab and go. Works for my busy lifestyle. I'm 58, working wife, mother of 2 grown kids and twin grandsons.

Who's with me as we start this journey?

Hi Ginny,

Good for you for beginning JC. I find it so easy to follow this plan, it's like there is hardly any extra effort required. I, too tried the 6 Wk Body Makeover about 3 years ago. I did lose 15 lbs in about 6 weeks but got so tried of the limited types of food that I could eat. JC has so many more options. I go for WI today so I have to scurry off to the shower. I will contact again later.

Hi Ginny,

I started on March 8th, I had my first weigh in on March 14 and had lost 1.5 lbs. I really like the JC program, and I haven't found anything I don't like to eat on the program. I am 51 years old and have 2 young adult sons.
Let's stay in touch and be supportive to each other.

Hi,
I'm Barb, 56, 1 grown daughter with 2 girls and 1 grown son, done with menopause and ready to be thin and healthy again. I just started last Tuesday, 3/11/2008. Most food is ok. Seems like more food than I'm used to, so can't wait for WI tomorrow.
Good luck to you all.

Wow! Hi ladies! I was worried I was the only 50+ who started Jenny in March 08! Cool. We can all do this together.

Yes, I found the food very limiting on 6WBMO. While it was effective, I can't live like that. This food is so much more tasty! I also like not having to cook it! Just grab and go!

Let's all support each other in this new endeavor! We can laugh and cry and just carry on while we all become losers!

I dashed home from work. Got here in time to jump out of the vanpool and into my car and off to my weigh-in. Unfortunately, hubby wasn't home and has a car parked in front of the garage door, so I can't get my car out to go to my appointment! Arrrrrrrrgh!

I called and let them know I'd be late. I need my food! Where is that husband of mine!?! I have 2.5 hours to get there before it closes.

This is NOT how I wanted my 2nd weigh-in to go!
Ginny
GinnyB
I blew it. Hubby got home in time to take me and I gained one pound. Darn it! I know what did it - I ate a pound of potato salad today at lunch! I organized the pot luck for today BEFORE I started Jenny. I knew it would be hard, and I was right. I just can't be around food. I have to NOT go to lunch with anybody, not go out to dinner and just basically hermit myself until I can get my weight where I want it.

I can't control my eating once I'm out. Yes, I can, but I just don't.

So after blowing a day so badly, do I eat dinner or skip? I think I'll skip.
LindaLB
Well, I went for WI yesterdsay and am down 1.2 lbs. I'm a slow but steady loser, so anything over a lb is great.

I have been on JC a little longer than the rest of you, so hope you don't mind if I join you. I am 56, turning 57 in June. I'm a wife and a mother of 2 boys, one who will turn 32 in July and one who is in heaven. I have 8 grandchildren that keep me young. One of the reasons I joined JC is that my bp is borderline and my cholesterol is 225. I want to be around for a long time to enjoy these grandkids (looking better will also be great). So far, I love the program. The food tastes great and is so easy to prepare and that in turn makes the program seem effortless.

Ginny, don't beat yourself up over the potato salad. You just have to get in the JC zone. I go out to eat with friends and have had several social situations that involved food and I think I handled them pretty well. Just plan ahead and make the committment to stick to that plan and you'll do OK.

Best of luck to you.

Linda

Hey Barb,

It's Pat, How did you get your BWI to show up on your weight ticker tracker?

OK girls I need your help. My BFF Katie is having a lot a social gathers in the next two weeks that I am going to and I am sooooo afraid I'm going to go and mess up my diet. Help me please. I don't mind the losing slowly part of JC but if I go for a weight in and have not lost any weight that might make me disappointed and I might start eating the wrong way again.

I really, really, really want to lose these 30-35 pounds and keep them off. I have been successful in the past by losing weight with other programs but I always gain the weight back when I go back to being on my own.

Keep me focused so I can stay healthy and be postive about my weight.

Pat
GinnyB
Don't worry. Just focus. That's what I'm going to tell myself with my horrible schedule the rest of this week. How badly do I want to eat this? Will eating this help me? Will eating this ruin my otherwise good day or good hour? Think of your weigh-in and how whatever it is you want will impact that.

Now if I can only LISTEN to my words and apply them to ME!!!!

Everyone is free to join this particular group. We all need all the help we can get. I hate my 1 pound weight GAIN! Sheesh!

Jenny is easy, just grab and go. i even had my family over for corned beef and had my dinner and didn't feel left out, will do the same for easter as i really want to make this dream come true.

i have 3 grown children and my 1st little grandchild a month ago, she is a doll!

hope it is ok to join in with folks, you all seem like a lot of fun....the fun fifties:)

Hi everyone, I'm a returning newbie. Started this past Saturday and will be weighing in this Friday. I was on the program years ago in my 30's and am back again in my 50's. I'm 52 and have a 16 year old son at home. I look forward to taking this journey with all of you. I have a few health issues - high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, and need to lose about 55-60 pounds. My hope is to eventually flush all those medicines down the toilet and enjoy better health. Now, I have a question. I've been seeing these commercials for Alli. Has anyone tried this stuff and does it work? Hope we all have a successful weigh-in this week!!
GinnyB
It's great to have so many to help each other through this journey! Welcome to everyone! We can ALL do this!

Since gaining a pound from week 1 to week 2, I've been very very good sticking to my plan. One little deviation yesterday (some potato salad and a few chocolates), but today has been 100% perfect!

Happy Announcement... my son just got engaged! We're so happy! We love his fiance!

I hope everyone has a perfect Jenny day tomorrow!

Pat,
If you go to the site for the ticker and enter your height, it does it for you.

I just joined yesterday but I can't get my food until they get approval from my doctor. I am 57 and was glad to find this forum. I didn't want to be the onlyone over 50. While I was joining I got a cell call from my daughter telling me she just got engaged. I now have extreme motivation t lose weight although my original goal was my health. I have type 2 diabetes, hypertension and they just tried to put me on cholesterol medication and I had a bad reaction. That was my real motivation. Thanks for being in the forum for me to read.

Hi everyone! I've been AWOL with work and stuff. I will give my weigh-in results for the last 2 weigh-ins:

Last week (Monday) I gained one pound! I was not happy, but I know why.

At that meeting, I changed my WI days to 7 a.m. Saturday - that's today.

Today's WI... drumroll... I lost 3.5 pounds in 5 days!!!!!!! Now how is THAT for determination and just doing it?!!! I'm so happy.

Total weight loss since 3/4/08: 6.4 pounds!

My goal is to maintain through this weekend and be lighted by at least one pound by Monday.

I just joined on Thursday and would love to be part of this group for support. I am 54, divorced, no children, just one cat named Sadie. So far I love the ease of the program and the foods are tasty. Easter at my Mom's will be a challenge, but I will try to eat sensibly to stay OP.
young@heart
Hi All,

I'm really happy to see a "50's" forum. I just got my food today and haven't started yet, I hope to see some positive motivation here ! I'll need all the help I can get. I'm 59 and newly retired from a highly stressful job but looking at starting a totally new job in 2 weeks with a different company and "no" stress, so hopefully I'll be able to take this weight off.

I've got 67 pounds to drop and after 8 years of carrying this weight around with me and eating like a horse I'm not sure if I can do it. I've read some of the prior posts and so far sounds good.

How did everyone do with the Easter Holiday? I did super! I ate some finger foods and only gained 2 ounces! Hoooooya!

http://holladayphoto.blogspot.com/2008/03/will-you.html

Here is a link to my son's proposal at a cove in Hawaii. Finally!!!!

I am going in for oral surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. I probably won't be able to eat my Jenny food for a day or so after surgery.

I'll post when I feel good enough to sit at a computer.

C'mon ladies, let's here it - what is your progress???? How are you doing? One good thing... I was able to zip a skirt that hasn't zipped in months. I wouldn't be caught DEAD wearing it that tight, but hey... it zipped, which is more than it did a month ago!!!

Ginny

beth123
Hi everybody, I had my first weigh-in after starting up my program again. I was AWOL for about 5 months and am back to square one. I was down 3 pounds!! I know I can't maintain that, but its always a boost to start out with a good week. I've been struggling though. It seems as though part of me starts up a rebellion after the first week or two. Lots of carb cravings. I'm trying to stick to one day at a time. I have about 65 pounds to lose and I find that setting a five pound weight loss goal helps. If I set anything higher, I get discouraged and go off my diet. I was at 191.5 last week, so my goal is just to break into the 180's. My counselor is really great. She's in her 60's, works out every morning faithfully and really walks her talk. She's been with Jenny for 17 years. I enjoy reading everyone's experiences and hope we continue this journey together....downward we go!
vicki53
YIPPEE!!! I had my first weigh-in tonight and am down 5.3 pounds.

Vicki
ThinTrans4mation
Hi, all.
Had my second WI today and am down another 1.6, so that's 3.2 so far.
I'm slow and steady, but at least it's downward.
Easter went well. I use a salad plate for my food with carrots to munch on while the others had a full turkey dinner with all that goes with it. I was cooking all day.
I ate 1/2 c. cauliflower mock potatoes with 4 small slices of turkey breast and 1 1/2 c. broccoli with JC Lemon cake for dessert. Yum! I was able to stay out of the candy which I sent home with the grand daughters. No junk here for me. Thank goodness.
I have been averaging 12000 to 16000 steps a day using a treadmill or walking outside when it is nice enough (rare now for NW Ohio). Weight resistance is only twice a week which I would love to get to 3 times per week. Weighted Ab ball every other day. On off days regular abs and calisthenics for the whole body. My hard part for now is drinking enough water. I wake up in the morning with a minor headache which goes away right after I eat my JC breakfast. Not sure what that is about yet. I don't eat past 8 pm any more. I have started eating each bite slowly and setting down my utensils between bites to really target my sated point. I find the food to be too much and am always full after eating, but was told to not skip anything, since I tend to lean towards less is better.
At least I'm getting results.
May we all progress towards our goals as we travel down this road together!
Go fellow JC pals!
GinnyB
Welcome back to the program, Beth! We can do his together and achieve a goal and a dream!

ThinTrans - I'm with you in the slow and steady department! My 2nd weigh-in showed a one pound GAIN! How bad is that! However, my 3rd weigh-in showed a 3.5 loss. Whew!

Vicki! You go girl!!!! Wow on the weight loss!

Together we can DO this! Slow and steady progress. I feel better. I look better. I see an immediate result in my hips. I just want to succeed. I don't need quick results though I would be grateful. I just want long lasting results. I want to accomplish this for ME.

I was completely OFF Jenny today. I had oral surgery at 11 a.m. - extracted one wisdom tooth. I'm on vicodin and 800 mg ibuprofen. I have a mouth full of gauze and I'm icing my face and jaw. I have eaten very little - 2 jello cups with ff topping, 1 small applesauce cup. For dinner I had one nuked red potato with 4 small meatballs.

That's all I ate cuz it was all soft stuff. I feel a bit dizzy - probably not enough food. I go back to the surgeon tomorrow.

I look at every day as an opportunity to get closer to my goal!

Sunseeker
Hey Girls,

I weighed my self at home this morning and I have lost 6 pounds since I started JC on 3-8-08. I'm having a really hard time getting motivated to start exercising, even though I have a membership at the local YMCA.

How to you girls start and stay motivated to exercise every day? I think we should start some type of challenge for this group. What are some ideas? We could challenge our selfs to lose 15 pounds by Memorial Day. Let's see what we can come up with and get a challenge started.

Now let me see if I can get my weight tracker to reflect a 6 pound loss. I think I did it and I added the BWI.

Pat

GinnyB
Hi Pat,

Exercise is bad for me too. I accept your challenge. I say that we hold ourselves accountable by coming here and posting our exercise time. Even if it's 10 minutes!

I'm going to wear my pedometer - even around the house. I need to exercise to get my blood flowing and get my joints moving!

Exercise helps us is so many ways! I too have a gym membership. I have every excuse in the world not to go!

Sigh...
LindaLB
Hello all,

I hope you all had a great Easter holiday. Keep your heads up, you are all doing great. Jusy calling JC and getting started was a big step and one in the right direction. At our age, it's finally time for us.

Now, my Easter...........It began with Sunrise Service at 7 am & was followed by a fellowhship breakfast. Breakfast casseroles, cheesy hash browns, fried pork sausage, donuts, coffee cakes, milk, juice and coffee. I ate small portions of the main dishes and took one powdered sugar mini donut. It all tasted great, but I managed self control. I could have eaten about 6 more of those mini donuts, but didn't. We then went to the daughter-in-law's parents for Easter dinner. First we watched the 2 grandsons hunt eggs (in the house because it was cold and we were having snow flurries). Then we began dinner preparations, baked ham, scalloped potatos, roasted asparagus, salad, deviled eggs and desert. I brought the deserts, a banana cream, chocolate cream and strawberry pie. All homemade and so yummy. I ate everything, but in small portions. I even had 2 small pieces of pie, strawberry and chocolate. Thank goodness JC has so many chocolate options, it really is my weakness. I was pleased that I used such restraint and was sure that I hadn't gained. I was hoping to maintain my current loss from the previous week.

Now, WI day. Normally, WI day is early on Monday for me, but due to a previously scheduled dermatologist appt on Tuesday, I scheduled my WI for early Tuesday morning. Imagine my surprise when the scale went down 2.6 lbs. What's up with that? Who am I to question? I'll take it.

I have officially lost 10% of my body weight. Whooo-hoooo! Jenny is great, if you work Jenny....Jenny works for you.

A great JC week to all of you.

Linda
ThinTrans4mation
GinnyB,
Hope you are doing well with recuperation after your oral surgery.
Sunseeker,
I accept the challenge.
I, too, have a Bally's membership, but I also have a TM and weights at home. My excuses aren't as valid, but running our own business from home interrupts workouts often. I need to permit myself to take my breaks for working out without interruption.
I have been averaging 12,000 to 16,000 steps per day since I started and using the JC Ab Ball every other day. I do calisthenics on off days of weight training. I have only been averaging 1-2 days per week for weight training. I need to step that up to a definite 3 times a week. Yesterday was the first day I missed the Treadmill workout, so I only got in 7504 steps. I plan to walk outside today. Temps should be close to 50. I will post my workouts as I can. I pledge to lose 15# by the end of May.
Good luck to all and keep those posts coming.
vicki53
Hi, Everyone!
I'm joining you for the exercise challenge, as well as the challenge to lose 15 pounds by the end of May!
How do we want to work this and keep track of our progress?

I am so jazzed about the Jenny Craig program. It is the first time in all of my many weight loss eforts that I feel like I really can reach my goal weight.

We can do this!!!

Vicki
GinnyB
Ok, so we're all on our way on our May Challenge! Woohooo! I'm going to the gym tonight! I'm so jazzzzzzzed!

Unfortunately, today I had to change my consultant. Just too many things not right. I went to get my afternoon snack and it wasn't there. When I drove out of my WI on saturday, my water bottle ($12.95) wasn't in the bag. That and a few other things just did it for me and I switched. These shouldn't be happening with a brand new person like me.

Ok I want to see a marked drop come Saturday morning, so look out, gym....here I come!

How are we going to keep track of the 15 pound weight loss by May 26, and our exercise?

We have to have a person that can keep a record of weight loss and exercise. Lets officially start on Sunday, March, 30th. If no one else wants to keep track I will. But I would rather you send the information to my personal e-mail address and I don't know how to but that in my profile so everyone can e-mail me that wants to be in the challenge.

I think this is going to be fun. Let me know if you want me to be the record keeper and that's fine with me.

Pat

PS: How do you get those thumb size pictures on the left side of your postings?

Hey Ladies,

I have GinnyB, ThinTrans4mation and Vicki53 that wants to join me in losing 15 pounds by May 26th, Memorial Day. I've created the spread sheet now I just need to know if anyone else wants to joing us in the challenge.

Just send me your weight loss any day next week and I will put it down on the spread sheet, also if anyone knows how I get my personal e-mail to you ladies that would be great.

I hope you are having a wonderful day and I am so excited to start this journey with each one of you.

Sunseeker,
I sent you a message through your profile with my e-mail address as well as how to add an Avatar to your reply.
Do you want workout info too or just WI info?
Thanks in advance for being our stat keeper!

Anyone else up for the challenge?

My husband asked me, if one were on JC and NutriSystem at the same time, would one lose twice the weight. unsure.gif LOL
Barb aka ThinTrans4mation
vicki53
Pat, thank you so very much for stepping up and volunteering to keep track of our stats! Could you add another column for our exercise, too? I say we begin on Sunday.

Have a great OP day, everyone!

Vicki
Sunseeker
Hey Ladies,

I will add another column for exercise, Are we counting minutes we exercise per week, or how many times we exercise each week? Maybe we should set a goal to exercise so many days by May 26 or should we do so many minutes. Example: 30 minutes of exercise for 7 days = 210 minutes, or 210 minutes times 8 weeks = 1,680 minutes. So maybe we should set a goal to exercise 1,800 minutes by May 26th, Memorial day. That's just a suggestion. Someone else help me come up with the goal for exercise. Thanks.

I go in for my official 3 week WI today at the JC center. I weight myself every morning at home to keep myself on track. The scale says I have lost weight this week but my clothes are still tight so I don't feel as thought I've lost any inches. I was asked to plan my own JC meals, has anyone else done that? Does that mean I will be eating what I planned from the JC foods? I would like to do more meals on my own when does that start? At least breakfast that's an easy meal for me to do on my own.

Have a great day and let's walk those pounds away so when the pool opens at the end on May we can feel really good about ourselves when we go to the pool. I went to the gym one day this week and took a one hour body scultping class and I walked for 30 minutes for 4 days. So I've started exercise now I just need to get walking faster and going to the gym more often.

Pat
GinnyB
Uh oh. I won't be here from May 3rd through 19th! I'll be in the Baltics. This challenge will be a double challenge for me, as that trip to the Baltics is on a cruise ship with a few extra days in London. Oy! I want to loose the weight before the 3rd! At lest 10 pounds by then.

Im going to stick with the challenge though. I'll exercise, walk, and eat JENNY to achieve challenge results!

I say we include exercise by day of the week. We can then track our minutes under each day. It's up to us to keep track of the week's worth of stuff, then we log in and post our stats. Then you can add those to the spread sheet.

I agree! We start Sunday (officially), but I started unofficially when the challenge was made! I'm workin' it, girls! I'm workin' it!!!!!

Tomorrow is my WI. I think it's my milestone too. Everybody have a super terrific Jenny day!

Gin
debbisands
Well tody was the 2nd WI. I only lost 1 lb but I figure since I didn't have any of my Jenny meals with me this week at my moms' this past week it was OK . And I ate carrot cake on Easter. No chocolate though so that was good.At least I didn't gain. I'm striving for a better loss next week. It is so difficult as I am caring for my Mom who is having surgery on Monday and will have to be there again till Thurs next week. This time I bought extra Jenny food to leave there.
I am not able to exercize as I have a torn achilles and am having surgery on April 18 and will be unable to walk for 2-3 month. Figure if I didn't start the diet I would really be in bad shape.
Good luck to all who are on the challenge. I will try too.
ThinTrans4mation
Sunseeker and Ginny B,
I agree to add the week's worth of minutes would be a great way to track our exercise commitment. Turning those in with each WI would probably be the best measure. My WI is on Tuesday AM, so I'll give my stats later that day. I, too, started tracking from the day of the challenge concept, but it can be official on Sunday.
Thanks for the support and keeping track of the stats.
I snow/ice shoveled today as part of my cardio and still have TM and floor work today yet.
Keep on workin' it.
Sunseeker, Did you get my message in your control panel?
Barb
PS I pledge 18,000 minutes of exercise and at least 10,000 steps each day for the challenge.
GinnyB
Debbi,

That's a tough surgery! I have a torn meniscus that needs surgery too. I'm thinking surgery will be in June. I can do other exercise besides treadmill work. I miss my treadmill.

ThinTrans,
We'll have a good challenge and I look forward to starting on Sunday. 10,000 steps! I can't seem to get 10,000 in! Most i've done is 7,400. 18,000 minute of exercise? ! ? I'm tired already! ha ha ha!

Tomorrow's my weigh in!!!
Anne Kate
Hi,
I'm returning to Jenny Craig after losing 33 pounds last year (April to September) and then doing it "on my own". I gained back 22 pounds and I'm happy I signed up for the lifetime program because I know I need the help. I'm wondering why winter months were so very hard on me in terms of weight control (besides the obvious... didn't exercise in snow, didn't eat the Jenny Craig food). But I'm really glad they are still there for me because it is difficult to walk and feel good about myself right now. I get very tired, my stress level is high, and I need help in taking care of myself. I have a grown child that I want to be around for, and a very stressful job. I'm ready, once again, to hand myself over to someone else to have some help with the weight loss needs. Happy to join all of you March weight loss newbies!

I am! I'm thinking of adding some stress busters to the mix. A friend told me to be sure to get something for my office that would help reduce the stress that causes me to eat (from very stressful career), so besides picking up my food today and weighing in, I'm going to buy a small tabletop fountain (if I can find one) for the office. Someone else told me about massage and aromatherapy, so I'm going to look into those as well.

After all, what good is it to make money if one can't spend some on oneself at age 55? It would be wise to invest in my health!

I have a grown son, a busy career and am working on figuring out the best retirement career. Happy to have friends on this journey, and would love to help others as well.

Debbi,
Good luck with other exercises and the JC plan to help with your weight loss. Calisthenics and upper body weight training in a chair might be a way for you to go until the achilles is better.
Ginny,
I usually average about 12,000 to 16,000 steps per day, since I am on the treadmill or outside walking for at 1 hour a day. (that's about 4 miles depending on my pace). I figure with other workouts I might have to back off treadmill time somewhat, so I'll see if 10,000 steps is reasonable for me for a longer term commitment.
I agree 18,000 minutes of workout time for 2 months sounds daunting, but won't it be fun to see the numbers go down after a month of working out.
How'd your WI go?
Kathy,
Welcome. You should be able to find a tabletop fountain almost anywhere. Rite Aid, Walgreens, Meijer's, WalMart, Kamart, Kohls, etc. They are fairly inexpensible and the water sound is an awesome way to alleviate stress, assuming you actually take the time to really relax (that's my downfall, time for me. LOL). I commit to a massage once a month and to this day still feel guilty when I first show up, but by the end of the hour I feel so relaxed that I know it was a necessity for me. Good luck with stress reduction.
FYI: There is a post on the forum that someone made with excel for making out your menu and printing it out to take to JC with prices. If I find it again, I'll post the forum title.
Happy travels on this journey.

This should be the link to the Excel menu planner. Works great and able to be updated with food and prices. If you have Excel give it a try.

Oh ladies! How good of you to join and share your stories! Stress - the food grabber! I get stressed I go for chocolate! Not now!

I'm also thinking of retirement, but our union is right at the end of contract negotiations for the next 3 years. Rumor has it, it will be the biggest contract. Sigh... at 57 I just don't want to hang for another 3 years. I'm a supervisor at a utility - the work is good, my staff is good, but oh the commute!

What to do after retirement? I'm going to sign up with a temp agency and go where and when I want. I'm able to work and like working, I just can't see 1:25 hours to travel 28 miles! THAT's STRESS! (grin)

Time for my weigh-in! I'll post when I get back!

biggrin.gif I had a good WI. I lost 1.4 pounds. I had hoped for at least 2, but I'll take the 1.4. I have my 4th week plan and I plan to stick to it! This past week I had two lattes (decaf and ff) and a ff soft yogurt. Other than those things I was on plan. Had one good exercise day, so I need to add more.

Our challenge starting tomorrow will spur me on in the exercise department. I'll log all my minutes of work out. I want to work on my thighs - oh those dreaded thighs!!!! I swear each one weighs 50 pounds!

I will post my weekly WI info here so it can help me maintain. I wouldn't want to come here and say I gained or I didn't lose! Eeek! If I do that, will one of you shoot me!!!
