Full Version: Getting depressed!!

I'll be 60 in a few months and I've had to take a month "off". It's just not working out for me right now. I've been successful in the past with Jenny but I've put a bit back on here and there so I went back to Jenny last October but I've actually gained!!! Am I the only one? Is it age? Metabolism? There are so many aids for other addictive behaviors but not for eating. It seems to be an obsession with me.

I'm in Massachusetts and it's pretty gray and miserable here and has been for a while so, hopefully, as soon as the weather improves, maybe I'll feel better about it? Perhaps I need to go back and try to start brand-new.

I'm on the treadmill 5-6 days a week walking/jogging for 30 minutes and I feel so good afterward but that doesn't stop me from eating.

I'm glad I found these forums because I really need some place to "talk".

Hi Massquilter, maybe you shouldn't be so hard on yourself...however, now might be the perfect time to start over. I took the month of Feb off and am back on track. I think it is important to write everything down and stick with the plan. We know it works. I am 65 and 30 mins a day on the treadmill does nothing for me. If I want change, I have to do a min of 60 mins...so you might want to pick up your exercise a bit. I try and mix it up with jazzercise, the bike, treadmill, walking and my all time favorite...tap dancing.

Don't put it off any longer. Gosh you could keep adding pounds. These boards are wonderful and I couldn't have done it without them. Good luck. Together we can DO this.

Hi ladies...This will pass...keep up the good work...and starting over again might be the best frame of mind to help you jump start the new lifestyle with food...I am a lover of eating food and I so agree that I eat way more for comfort...

The weather will improve and you will be feeling stronger and will be able to shake off the cravings with the nice weather...think of the old/new clothes you will be wearing...

I have been having an issue with my hormones and I think that has something to do with the food cravings...I missed my TOM for 8-weeks and I finally got my TOM on Monday and I have not had a dessert since Monday night...

Good luck on your new lifestyle with JC...don't quit...you can do this...start each day as a new begining...I am shooting to get to ballet class tomorrow at 1pm and I will be 48 this month...it's never to late to do what you enjoy...

Thanks, one-of-a-kind

Hi! Thanks for the advice - I hope it keeps coming!!! I did get a lift yesterday and some motivation, too! I won the grand prize on a local tv station's contest for a weekend in NYC in April or May.

So I'm on my way and I think I'll start back at Jenny this Thursday.

It seems that most people on the forums are on the West Coast.

Massquilter, ***Congratulations on winning a weekend to trip to NYC!!!***

I am sure that put wind in your sails...you are a winner in more ways than one...

Today I slept in and did not make it to ballet class, next week...

I am getting ready to put a hill in the treadmill...off I go to the gym...

Thanks, one-of-a-kind

Please try not to get too depressed. I would suggest starting from scratch like when you first start Jenny. Make sure you are drinking enough water !!! I do Jenny direct and when I get my food I fill out my menus for the two weeks and check everything off as I eat it. If I have anything extra I write that down also. It really helps me keep focused on what I actually eat each day. Hope this helps some.

Congratulations Massquilter! I think your grand prize sounds fabulous! biggrin.gif

We are here for you, we are all on this important journey together. Let us know if you start back on Thursday, okay? I agree with Tipler Grannie, draw yourself a line on Thursday and start fresh. Drink lots of water, and don't eat popcorn the day before you weigh in again! (really made me carry the water weight, not a good thing!)

By the way, some of us, like me, are on the West Coast, and some are in the mid section of the country, and I think some of us are on the East Coast also.

Thanks everyone. You've given me lots of great advice....! I know I don't drink enough water and I really do like water and as far as the popcorn before you weigh in - wow - that's great to know.

My husband and I took a cross country trip in our RV last summer and BOY! what a great and beautiful country this is!!!! (in love withAZ).

I've been doing pretty well on my own and actually eating the we Jenny has taught. Since I've been writing to you all on this blog, I think I've been able to stay away from those dreaded treats (chocolate). THANKS!!!

Hi Massquilter!
Hooray for you! Yes, I believe we live in a beautiful and varied country also. We visited Scottsdale, AZ last January, and we thought it was amazing country. The desert in AZ is different than the CA deserts, so it was fun to see. We should have beautiful wildflowers this year because of the winter rains that fell. I love to see them! Some have started, but we like to go out to the high desert (Antelope Valley, we still have family there) and go to the poppy preserve. It is usually just amazing on a good year like this!

Have you tried the brownie and the smores candy bar? I absolutely love both of them, and they really help me with chocolate cravings....

hi, I am 2 days in the program and have had no sleep for going to the bathroom all night. Can I cut down on the water?
Jodi H
Your body is getting rid of excess water right now. After the first week it will get better. You have to drink a lot of water to get rid of excess water the body is holding on to. Maybe don't drink so much for a couple hours before bedtime. Not sleeping is a drag, but having to go pee so much is a good sign. You should have a good first week weigh in!

Hi Massquiter,
Could part of your trouble be the grey miserable weather? Have you tried a tanning bed for a little while. I'm not saying get a tan, I'm saying get the effects that sunlight has on your outlook on life. Also try using more lighting inside your house to cheer you up. I really have to work at keeping a happy face going when the weather is gloomy. I have no trouble at all believing that Seasonal Depression Disorder exists. Hope this helps!
