Could somebody please clue me in and tell me what rotel is? I've seen it mentioned frequently but I have no idea. If I had to guess, it sounds like a kind of pasta. Thanks!

It's a canned Tex Mex style salsa. It comes in a variety of flavors and is a free add in for many of the JC cuisine. It's inexpensive and can be found at most grocery stores in the canned tomato section or international food aisle.

salsa? really? never would've guessed that. I'll look for it. Now I wish I knew why it is so especially popular. salsa is salsa, isn't it?

It is a little different than salsa - more substantial. Diced tomatoes with green chilis. It is really good and a great add to the pastas and chilis.

Just be sure the salsa you buy does not contain sugar, like some spaghetti sauces do. Once sugar is in the mix it becomes a starch and not a vegetable.
However most Mexican source sauces don't contain it. Pace Salsa doesn't have sugar either in the regular variety. that I buy at the CostCo in large jugs

Rotel is VERY SPICY!! It usually is used mixed with Velvetta Cheese - melted and makes the best, easiest Cheese Queso Dip!! It comes in mild or hot but mild is pretty hot! I prefer a mild salsa instead. Rotel is just alot chunkier, hotter. Its a Texas thing!!~
