I hope the vegetarians on this board find their way back here -- I was so discouraged to see the posts missing and the problems with getting the message board even working again, but I made it back after registering under a different email address. Somehow it linked up to my old ID, how I don't know!
I posted another new post to "Food Feedback" re: the need for more veggie options -- please chime in when you can!

Hello everyone! I've found my way back to the list. Good to see everyone again! Question for you. I've been on the program for about 3 weeks now. I have a very slooooow weight loss, but I haven't gained, just decreases by very small increments. Is that normal? Of course I would love to have a really spectacular week, but it just hasn't happened for me yet.

Welcome back! My weight loss has been slow the whole time, and I've been on the program for about 3 months now. I could do more exercise to speed things up, but have been sick for the past month (ugh) and just got back to working out today.
I think slow is okay, as long as there's progress in the right direction! This is actually the slowest weight loss I've had, but I'm older now, so my metabolism is not the same. But I also have been steadily going in the right direction (down!) so I'm hoping that in the long run, it will be off for good this time.
Are you working out regularly? Drinking lots of water?

Hey all! I'm Courtney, I'm from NY and I literally became a vegetarian last Thursday lol. I went to Border's (bookstore) and Bought the book "Skinny Bitc*" because I read about it in the New York Times and I originally just thought it was all about eating natural organic foods but no, it has 3-4 chapters about the whole animal abuse in the meat industry, as well as information on how to still get all your vitamins and nutrients. There are lots of studies to back it all up and after some personal research I found that I could not drink milk. I have been drinking fat free milk for YEARS and I was a huge milk fan but, that night (after reading the book in ONE day) I tried to have my milk with my desert and found that it made me gag.
I feel bad that I can't be a vegan. I would totally be a full blown vegan if this program had vegan meals. It's hard, I know, to have meatless and lactose-free meals on a program like this but every time I have something I feel really bad. It sounds silly, doesn't it. I would go vegan if my dad hadn't boiught me the Rewards plan (like 400 dollars) last january (2007) and I've also done REALLY well so far and I figure it's still their food, I just have less choices now.
I'm actually looking in to subbing some of the lunches and dinners with vegan meals I can do at home, I just don't want to waste that money that my dad spent. I pay for my food but the Rewards program has been a real help for me over the last couple of weeks when my job was unstable. Oh my god this was like, a novel-length post, I'm so sorry!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and continues to have a great week.

That's great, Courtney! Have you been doing well with just the vegetarian options on JC? Looks like you've been really successful over the past year!

Hey, yea I've been doing well with the veggie options and I also sub in vegan hot dogs (really good lol) and some meatless chicken patties as well as veggie burgers on whole wheat buns. This weekend is going to be me taking a trip to the whole oods market (it requires a day off, it's a trek) because they have a HUGE selection of products.
The only thing I'm having trouble with is soy milk. I have Silk brand light soy milk- vanilla flavored. It's OK when I'm drinking it but there's this weird weird aftertaste. I hope I'll get used to it. I may have to try the regular, whole fat (instead of light) version...but I'm not sure the outcome would be different. Of course I'm afraid of not getting enough vitamins or nutrients, but it's only been a few days and I'm still learning.
Any advice is welcome guys! Have a happy monday!

I am scheduled to get my first order tomorrow. I am a 46 year old guy at about 200 lbs. at 5'9". I need to be 175. I broke my back in 2006 so I hope this works with my low activity level.

I have been on the JC program for about 3 weeks now. I am a vegetarian for 25+ years, I eat dairy, eggs and some fish. Each consultation I have had has had some focus on the lack of vegetarian options, especially the lunches (or, the lunches of substance). As for hot breakfasts, also not much choice... I have been told to take the turkey bacon off of the sunshine sandwich (now, that might impact the nutritional expectation, no??)... While I find the food not bad, the limited options are a challenge.

I used to have trouble iwth the soy milk too, especially the after taste. I found that I much prefered almond milk with my cereal. You may want to experiment when you go to Whole Foods - they have lots of options

If you haven't read it, I also highly recommend John Robbin's "The Food Revolution". I understand your feelings about wanting to be vegan. I started out that way and I think I will go back to being at least mostly vegan after my Jenny Craig phase (I just started again and need to loose about 15 pounds). But for me personally, I had the problem of binging on things like chocolate candy bars and cheese cake at work after having a perfectly "vegan" meal. So I figure for me, it's a trade off to at least be vegetarian and try to have some healthy control over what I eat; rather than trying to be 100% vegan. If Jenny Craig had a vegan option I'd definitely choose that, and i agree with you all that they need more vegetarian meals in general. but if i have to choose between my part vegan, part binge mode, I know for me I need the help of the planned menues right now. By the way, for anyone living in California, don't forget to vote in November - many of you will already know about this but we are trying to gather enough signatures to help the humane society get an anti-cruelty measure on the Nov. ballot that would help a little bit for many suffering farm animals: www.humanecalifornia.org

I have been with JC for about 3 months now and have been a vegitarian for about 3 years now. I do not miss meat in the least. I do think that JC needs to have more options for vegitarians. I am now starting to become unenchanted with the JC food.

How very fun to find all of you vegetarians doing Jenny Craig. I have been with Jenny since November and am loosing. However, I also wish they could provide us with more variety in vegetarian meals. The comments here are interesting on how you all are coping. One thing that I recently did was to buy the Lentils and Beef meal, then make up one of my own using some lentil soup that I found at Costco plus a half of a griller, instead of the beef. My Jenny consultant is sympathic and understanding, so I'm lucky there.
LINY27--you mentioned soy milk. Here's a suggestion... I drink it hot each AM with a 1 teas. choc drink flavoring. I've gotten so that I really enjoy it.
CABARETJEN--I need the planned menus, too. And I agree, I'd do a vegan program, too, if they had it.
How about the rest of you? Any suggestions on how we can be successful as vegetarians?

I am also a newly joined vegetarian, although I have done JC before. I was raised vegetarian. They really need more food options and consultants who understand. I am trying to lose some weight for a vacation next month. Not sure if I will come back to JC post-vacation.

I haven't been posting for quite a bit, mostly due to the fact that I felt many people I met on here didn't realize the difficulty of being on the program as a vegetarian. I have successfully lost on Jenny twice, but I have been struggling to maintain. I've stayed below my goal weight for nearly five months, but I am really sick of Jenny food. Not only that, I'm sick of the only veggie Lean Cuisines and Weight Watchers meals out there as well.

Thank you.

hi
just reading this forum before i sign up and i've decided not to sign up! I hope someone who can do something about vegi food options reads this and realizes that they probably are many more people like myself who do not sign up and that JC is loosing money because of the lack of vegi food.
i feel for all of you, but if i am paying money, i think they should provide the food that is right for me. people who eat meat do not have to buy other frozen/canned foods and figure out if the calories/nutrition are equivalent to the JC meal they can not eat.
anyways, i wish you all luck. hopefully if everyone complains enough they will change their ways.

I have been fighting this food issue with Jenny Craig for a long.....time and they don't care. Trust me. The only thing that Jenny Craig cares about is the dollar sign. The only way we will make a stand is to leave Jenny Craig and go out on our own, like I have and have done just fine, or go to another company,,,,say...........Nurti System. I have had some of my vegetarian friends go to them and have had great success not to mention there are lots of veggie options.

I just joined last month, spent all that money and I am very angry......the counselor is a moron and keeps telling me different meats to eat when I go out to dinner and every time I have to remind her that I am a vegetarian. She promised to send me the things I didn't receive in my order and they never came. Today she screwed up my credit card charges so I said enough of this aggration and quit. Don't use this company!
