Hi,
Just a question?Does your body tend to change(weight gain)when you turn 66?I have been on Jenny's mainetance for almost 2yrs.I also do a Curves program,I have been doing that almost 1 yr.Would that exerise program make the scales go up?I have been watching what I eat. It's so disapointing.I think i should go back on Jenny's planned program,"do you think I should?? I would appreciate all the help I can get.

I just know, that in the process of trying to lose weight, when my exercise increases, my weight loss slows down. The solution is to eat a higher calorie menu than before.
This has been very disappointing to me, as I was really walking and doing Curves so faithfully, and did not see the weight loss reward for doing so. BUT, I lost a lost of inches the first several weeks, and that is what the exercise is supposed to do.
I think the older you get, the slower the metabolism is. Good Luck and welcome back.

Hi gram-mom... left you a Private Message ... AND a year's worth of exercise I am sure has given you more muscle weight; are your sizes still the same or even looser? Or are they getting tighter? That's a big guide for me.

gram-mom ... as Bullwinkle (or was it Rocky??) used to say, "THIS time for sure!" I've left you the Private Message again.
Pardon me for jumping in ... higher-calorie menu would be higher than the number of calories you eat in a day now ... usually (in my eperience) adding about 500 calories; so if at 1200, then going to 1700, if at 1700 then going to 2,000 or even 2,200 and so on. You go up not forever but for enough time to give your body a chance to register, "Oh! the famine is over and I am going to get food regularly now, so I don't have to be super-efficient about holding tight to every single calorie."
It's interesting that one working hypothesis is that maybe those of us for whom nearly every mouthful sticks to our body tightly have a long history of thousands of years of our particular ancestors being the ones who were most likely to survive becausee we could make the most out of whatever nourishment we got ... we could withstand famines longer than other people, we could get by on less nutritious food and still live longer ... and so on.
It's helped me in accepting that my body is as it is to find out that maybe there was a good reason for this genetic tendency in the past and that I wouldn't even be here if my ancestors hadn't been able to survive hard times long enough and healthily enough to produce children.
Oh! got all off on that tangent and forgot: it helps a lot for many people if the 500 or so calories you add to get your body to pay attention is mostly protein.
I hope your Consultant can assist you to do this. That is what I would suggest trying first because your Consultant has been trained in those things and knows where you've been and what has worked for you, etc.

Higher Calorie Menu: Jenny Craig has sample menus for 1200 and 1500, and maybe higher. When they had me on the 1500 calorie, it was basically an extra fruit and an extra milk, and that was it, I think.
You can go to the "create your own menu" and ask to see the pre set JC menus. Then you can see if there is even a higher calorie one.
Hope this helps

I forgot to add that you should go strictly by what your JC consultant says. You can opt for the higher protein entrees (I do); and then let her determine what calorie level you should be at. (Also, the sample menus are here on line under "menu planner."
Just be aware that our age DOES make a difference on the speed of our loss. Also, even though I am losing slowly, I have lost a LOT of "inches" around the middle!
Don't go by what we on the boards say without checking with your consultant, just follow JC and you will lose again!
Be aware and be careful, in that some advice written on the message boards may not be according JC program guidelines or the correct thing for you! Keep us Posted!

I do know one loses weight more slowly as you get older. It's still possible, but takes longer and more effort.
