Welcome August 1st and Welcome all of you 60+ participants.
I had a little ditty for you and of course forgot it - when I get home from my first day back at work I will insert it here.
Well, maybe I can remember it:
If you're 60+ and you know it clap your hands
If you're 60+ and you know it join our thread
If you're 60+ and you know it and really want the scales to lower
If you're 60+ and you know it you're in the right place.
Why don't you come up with a better rhyme?
My WI today is at 4:25 pm and I am hoping.... Vacation eating.... Wish me luck.
Here's to a great August!

Hi Everyone!
DixieP sent me over here ... if I ever annoy anyone, you can blame it on her! lol
A little about me ...
Just joined (Jenny Direct) Tuesday night ... food will arrive Friday and meet my counselor by phone on Saturday.
5' 3" ... very happy for over 10 years at 250 lbs. Amazing but true that I have been happier with my body at that size than at any other weight (all lower) prior to that. Now, things have changed in several aspects of my life that make me motivated to see what I can do.
In 2004, I gained 5 lbs: 255 ... didn't like that but could live with it.
One of the things that changed recently was that during the winter and spring (about 6 months), I gained 17 lbs. Very unusal for me and partly due to side-effects from medicine I had to take then. But after being steady at the same weight for over 10 years and then just 5 lbs. more for a couple of years, I didn't like that sudden increase.
I got those 17 lbs. off by myself from May to mid-July. Joining Jenny is my reward to myself for doing that loss on my own; joining Jenny is also my recognition that I have come to the limit of what I can do on my own.
I learned early to do things on my own; I have only about a third of my life practicing asking for help! lol
My highest weight ever: 272 (April 2007)
My happiest weight ever: 250
My lowest weight ever (at present height): 120
Starting weight: 255
Goal: averaging a pound a week loss; will be very happy with 3 pounds a month
Easier for me if I don't get too far ahead of myself in any long-term process ... so while my ultimate goal is to reach 180, I'm not focused on that, but on how I'm doing one week at a time. I'm a "babysteps" person and it's a process that has worked well for me in many areas of my life.
Current sizes: Bottoms: 28/30; Tops: 24/26
As for some other things about me: I'm happily retired, like to play cards, and am a big fan of "Law & Order" in all its many incarnations. One of my favorite ways to relax is to watch the nature in my yard: big trees, squirrels, robins, cardinals, sparrows, crows, mourning doves, etc. I also have a little patch of yard I tend to as "mine" even though the landscape company is paid to do all our community lawn.
To all who post ... please know that I read a lot of posts without commenting but with deep appreciation for all you contribute by posting. You help me even if you have no idea how much!

Welcome new 60+
Well I have been working alot since I posted and I have missed you. I was not happy that I had gained a pound at my WI on Wednesday I can tell that I have not been excercising and just a little off the program type eating. I have to get back on track and make the plans to make it happen tonight starting tomorrow.
Thinking of you all.

I had lost 2.4 lbs at WI yesterday and was grateful that I had not given in to an impulse to indulge in leftover pizza and cookies from an office meeting on Friday. I had arranged the lunch and was worried that I would give in to old habits. I was able to resist this time because: (1) my weigh-in was the next morning, and (2) it finally dawned on me, after all these years, that I don't "get away" with anything, and I don't want to have to make up the lost ground. Treading the ground the first time around is hard enough--why go over it again? Another thing that helped was the knowledge that I had the JC meal plan food at home. Even if I had been able to resist, pre-JC I probably would have stopped somewhere on the way home and bought junk.

Congrats on your weight loss and will power, attagirl! Ditto for me, shinypearl!
I had a teeny tiny loss (.2 lb), just by the hair of my chiny chin chin, due to lack of will power. I actually had lost more, then came back from my daughters and let my husband bbq me a hamburger (w/cheese) and had to ears of corn, and then, well you get the picture! I am so mad at myself! I did have about .5 lb more of clothes on than I have had at WI day, but still, not a good showing!
Anyway, I finally got my JC counselor to agree to could change my goal weight to 150, so I am now 6 lbs from "HALF WAY"!
My original goal was 150, but I changed it to 140 a few weeks ago, now I'm back to 150. Then, when that is reached I'll decide if I want to go for more!
Good luck everyone. I have also walked and gone to Curves the past two days.

Very happy I was physically able to walk today ... here in my first week on Jenny, I have had one thing after another "act up" including my refrigerator!
I've been doing stretching and chair exercises due to not being able to walk well. My favorite ways to move my body are walking and dancing to videos.
Sending good vibes to everyone!

OMG - Can't believe it, our new member, Digby, must have brought me luck! I lost 3.4 lbs this week also.
This is the first time EVER I have lost more than 2.5 lbs or so! AND I went out to dinner Fri night also!
I'm off to my daughters in so. calif. will still be checking in! Babysitting 3 active youngsters (age 11, 9, and 5) will keep me active for sure!
Hope everyone has as good of week as I did!

Hi all,
I've been away for a couple of weeks, helping my daughter and her family (4 kids, oldest is 5 LOL) getting settled into their new home in PA. Her husband took a new job, but had to work at the old job two more weeks after she and the kids moved to the new house.
Anyway, I took a Jenny vacation while I was there ...actually, I bought JC frozen stuff at a local JC place for my main meals, but I snacked a bit on other stuff too.
By my scales, it looks like I might have lost a pound over the two weeks. I won't know until I weigh in next Monday ...but my consultant and I said we'd call it a win if I just maintained while I was away.
Anyway, it feels good to be back on plan (at least partway). I can't get to my center until next week and am out of JC foods, but I'm substituting Lean Cuisines, etc. until I get there. Actually, it's a nice change to have different things, but I'm anxious to get back on JC 100%. I just feel so much more in control when I know EXACTLY what I'm supposed to be eating.
Good to be back home and in my own bed too. Sleeping with a 5 year old has its challenges LOL
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm good ...and very glad to be back to my normal routine.

Hi Gloria,
Don't know where everyone's gone! It has been so quiet this month.
I'm away from home, at my daughters and it has been very difficult to stay with the program! I will pay on the scales, I am sure!
Where is everyone?

Aug 21 2007, 05:44 AM
OK, Where is everyone???
I weighed in at JC for the first time in 3 weeks (after my 2 week visit to PA to help my daughter move and a long weekend of out-of-town guests). My consultant and I had agreed before I left for PA that, if I could just maintain for the three weeks I'd be gone, we'd call it a win. Well, I actually lost 1.4 pounds so I'm calling it a BIG win! I'm now down just under 10 pounds (9.8).
My loss is sooooo slow! ...but at least the scales are going in the right direction. Now I'm back on plan for a few days before my son and his family arrive for a short visit. That will throw another monkey wrench into my being 100% on plan, but hopefully I'll stick to it enough not to gain. Then next Monday, it's back to plan 100%, no cheating, no how!
So how are the rest of you 60's doing out there? Hopefully, you're losing a bit of weight here and there, feeling good about yourselves and having some fun doing it.

Hi Gloria. I was beginning to wonder if everyone went "off" program and dropped out or something! I am wondering if this is the way it works sometimes, people just disappear off the boards for one reason or another? I know a lady who was new with me has disappeared, and I miss her!
AND a big HURRAY for you on your loss! I have been at my daughters babysitting, housesitting, dog sitting and have to admit, I ended up eating with the kids and not JC food for lunch/dinner most of the time! I am hoping I maintained at least, or maybe if I get back on the straight and narrow right now, even have a loss like you did!
Since I change my goal weight BACK to my original 150, I am only a couple of pounds from my halfway mark!
Glad you are here!

You're my inspiration, Dixie! So don't you go leaving or anything.
I've lost the 10 pounds and feel better, but really can't tell much by looking in the mirror or in my clothes. I remember the last time I did JC, when I hit the 15 pound mark, I could finally tell I'd lost some weight.
Today, one of the gals at work said I looked thinner AND i was able to comfortably wear a shirt that I haven't worn for 10 years, so I guess that's progress.
I know what you mean about babysitting and eating the kids food LOL While I was in PA, I often had left over pb&j or chicken nuggets for lunch. It is just so easy to pop those little tidbits into your mouth ...and they taste sooooo good (even though when you're NOT dieting you probably wouldn't even like them). But the "forbidden" always tastes way better than what you're supposed to be eating ;-) I guess that's why we're at JC in the first place, right?
Dixie P
Aug 21 2007, 07:36 AM
RIGHT you are! I did find that my portion control is in tact, however. But I also endulged in PB&J as well. Luckily, their favorite for lunch was spagettios and I hate that! LOL!
My big challenge is ice cream. But, the kids eat a couple of scoops in small bowls, so I do the same, which was about 1/4 of my pre-JC portion!!
I'll be returning home sometime this week, not sure of exact day. So I won't be weighing in until 8/28. I have time to fix any damage I may have done!
Re Grandkids, I find that I am now well versed on all things kid and preteen. Did you see the premiere of "High School Musical 2?" I did, twice! Then saw "Underdog" at the movies also. A real education on today's kid-world so far!

hi everyone
do you mind if I join your group? I am 60 years old and I live in Southern California - South Orange County to be exact. I started JC on 8/13 and have lost 3 pounds so far. How do you record your stats at the bottom of your message?

Welcome OC! I'm in Calif. also, formerly southern Calif, now kinda "central" in Tulare, between Bakersfield and Fresno.
My weight loss has been very slow but steady and I am finally over 20 lbs! (started 5/11/07).

Hi everyone, I am new, too! This is my third week on the program. I am almost 65 and never thought I could lose an ounce. In the last three years of working at home I put on 30 lbs. The scale would never go down no matter what I did. Now, I am grateful to see lower numbers. I blamed it on age and certainly the WATER! What else could it be? Portion sizes!? Really!
Well, I commend all of you for wanting to look and feel better. The message boards have been my mainstay. I love them and I truly appreciate all your support, ideas and truthfulness about your struggles and strengths. Blessings from Orange Co/CA.

Hi Everyone
Thank you for including me. I am in my second week and as of this morning I have lost 6 lbs and I am in heaven. I have really been working at it and it's not easy. I try to exercise everyday but I have to really talk myself into it. I had been going to WW for 2 years and the most I lost was 5 lbs. A year ago I had breast cancer surgury and gained 10 lbs while I sat around. My boss hired a girl to replace me while I was off work, and when I went back to work and met her it was a wake up moment. She is 3 years older than me and about 40 lbs smaller than me. She has a ton of energy and a great outlook on life. She is now encouraging me with my JC choice. I am finding the food pretty good and so easy to just eat what is on my menu - but I guess after this week I am on my own. How do you guys handle your menus?
tapdancer - where are you in Orange County? I am in San Clemente.

Aug 23 2007, 08:41 AM
Congrats on a great weight loss!!!
Re Menus: After week two, I started planning my own menu here on line. It is so easy, and you can "copy" the JC on line version over to Word and edit it, put in dates, etc.
I basically only get the frozen entrees with emphasis on the higher meat or protein content. I now get at least 3 breakfast scrambles a week; complete start is my cereal of choice, so I get 3 of those also.
I use my own NF salad spritzers, no sugar syrup (when I indulge in french toast or pancakes.) I found a great tasting "veggie sausage" at Albertson's "organic" section. I make my own "sunshine sandwich" also.
Hope this helps, for a start.......

Hi OC Beach Bum, I live in Seal Beach.
I think menu planning is fun. If you like the computer, go to menu planner section and there are all the drop down meals so you can preplan your next week and take your menu with you.
My friend, who is a JC consultant, says when she gets home with her food, she takes a felt tip marker and writes, B-L-or D on each box before putting it away. Then when she is looking for a meal she doesn't have to pull everything out. I tried it last week and it is working great.
I like picking and choosing. That way I only eat what I really like and am loving it. Hope you do too.

Hi Dixie and the gang. I'm still here. I've been looking in but mostly posting to a thread that I started back in June under "Returning Clients" called "Anyone else return around June 15?". I was posting mostly to this one because everyone is my age, but felt guilty about not being there for folks in the group I started. I'll try to post more often. It's getting hard to lose, but I'm hanging in there "most of the time". I bought 2 weeks food last time, so I don't go to weight in until Sept 1. Was up 2 lbs last time and hope to get rid of that plus some by the 1st. Did I see right... we have a fella on here now (Digby)? That's great! Hope more join us too.

Welcome back, you were missed!
I just got back from grandkid sitting and did not weigh in this week. I know I gained a few onces at least......but was really pretty good (for me! LOL) I am really getting the hang of "portion control", but didn't eat much JC food for that week or so.
I am back to my pre-kid sitting weight now and don't weigh in until Tues! Doing "damage control" LOL!

Keep up the good work, tapdancer! Maybe you could start with walking as your exercise? I also have been going to Curves this past 6 months (before JC.) Now I am ready to "go to the next level."
I was up 1/2 lb today, but had a big 3 lb loss 2 weeks ago. Went off the program basically for one week, so I am not surprised nor am I unhappy.
I love all my classes at the fitness center so far, having fun while exercising - can beat that! We'll see how next week goes, as there is the problem with NOT losing when exercising too much! But some of the classes I plan to take are toning not fat burning, so maybe I won't be over doing it.

Hi all,
Well, I think I'm back to my normal life (Whatever that is LOL) again. The two weeks in PA helping my daughter move is behind me. The out of town guests from Michigan are behind me. My son and his family left on Monday, so that visit is behind me. I loved seeing friends and family, but each thing presented its own set of Jenny challenges. I lost a bit over the visit to PA. I even lost 1/2 pound after our friends visited, but boy! did I blow it this past weekend.
In all seriousness, I didn't do all that bad, but I still gained .4 lb ...and as slowly as I'm losing, that's probably at least a week's progress backwards. But we had fun at Disney World celebrating my 4 year old granddaughter's birthday. I actually made some pretty good choices while we were in the parks those two days, but two buffet dinners probably accounted for the gain.
Anyway, I've been back to the JC Center for this week's food and am ready to get back on plan 100%.
I'm so glad to see some new faces here and hope everyone is having great success! For sure, losing is lower for us 60+ members, but it's sure better than gaining and we are so much healthier when we eat the right things. So hang in there and success will follow.
One of the gals in our office (a real sweetheart too!) reminded me today why I'm sticking with JC. She is trying to lose some weight too... probably only needs to lose 15 pounds or so. She was dieting before I started JC. She "cries" all the time about how hungry she is and how little she is eating. She dropped about 6 pounds with Slim Fast and not much of anything else, and then, as soon as she started eating normally (for her), she gained it all back again... and now, 8 weeks later she is right where she began, still "crying" that she's starving and that she needs to lose weight. In the same amount of time, I've lost 10 pounds, haven't felt starved even once, have dealt with the vacations, visitors, etc. ...but she says she just "couldn't do JC because it's so structured and restrictive." I tell her the structure is what I like, but she wants to do it her own way and isn't having much success. Poor gal! I just give her a big hug and say, "Try Jenny sometime."

Well, Gloria, you just finished your "interruptions and/or temptations to stray" and here I am with another one coming up. We decided at the last minute to leave next Wed. for 5 days to my daughter's and our former area (we will stay in our RV).
Good luck to everyone and hope you all join me over in "September" new topic! We have been too slow!!!! I miss everyone!

Well all, I have my weigh-in this afternoon. I'm hoping I've lost at least a bit. I did a boneheaded thing this weekend. We live in an apartment Miami during the week, but spend the weekends at our little house near Orlando. When we leave on Fridays, I pack a cooler with my JC frozen stuff, veggies, etc. ...except this past Friday I totally forgot about packing the frozen stuff. So, I ended up eating "regular" food the whole weekend.
I was pretty good about making wise choices and hubby even cooked enchiladas from one of the JC cookbooks for Saturday lunch (yummy, by the way!) ...but it still wasn't the easy discipline of just eating the JC foods.
So, we'll see what the scales thinks.
Actually, it was a nice break. I've been on JC for 10 weeks now and I'm finding I'm getting tired of the same things over and over again. I need to be adventuresome and try some other things, but I really only like a few of the shelf-stable foods so that leaves me with only the frozen stuff for my choices.
...and I understand that they've discontinued the Thai Lemongrass Chicken that I could have eaten 7 days a week.
Has anyone tried the new BBQ chicken with beans? I asked my consultant about it and she said some people really liked it, but she wasn't crazy about it ...and since it's a shelf-stable product, I decided to give it a pass ...but I'd love to hear what others think of it.
Have a great day everyone ...and let's get some chatter going here!

Hi there from another 60+. Ijust started on JC two weeks ago and so far am doing ok with it. I have lost on Weight Watchers in the past but haven't been able to motivate myself to do the cooking and points counting. I am loving the ease of JC meals. First week I lost 4 pounds and my wi day is Friday, so I don't know how I've done this week, but I have been faithful to the program.
I have had some issues with being hungry. I don't drink milk, and I think I need to do something about that. I do substitute yogurt for some of it, but am looking for a good sf milk flavoring that will make it more palatable.
A big challenge I have coming up is in December. I guess I should wait until then to worry about it, but I am going with my DD and grandchildren to DisneyWorld for my birthday treat. After that I will go to my son's house in TX for Christmas. I know while I am at their homes I can eat Jenny food, but I know I'm going to want to eat at WDW. Any suggestions?
