Hi Sarah, welcome to military life! I remember trying to lose weight for my husband during his basic training six years ago, it is so exciting seeing them after it is finished, you will love it! As for advice on what to expect, it all depends on the branch they are in and what his career field is. My husband is in the air force and he is a avionics specialist that works roughly 12-14 hours each day M-F and sometimes weekends and he deploys to Iraq every year for 4 months and every 3 years to Korea for an unaccompanied year. There are career fields that don't go anywhere so don't worry about that until it comes. I love being a military wife, despite the deployments. I am spoiled by the military with all benefits that we are entitled to and I cant imagine living outside military life now. It takes a special type of person to be a military wife because you have to have a certain strength to keep it together and hold down the "fort" while they are gone so that they don't have to worry about things falling apart at home while they are gone. I am not going to lie, it gets really hard sometimes, but it really is an experience that I am glad I have had to opportunity to be a part of. If you need support don't hesitate to post here, you will find alot of support not only for your weight loss but also for your military lifestyle.

thx, he is in infantry. and he is still in basic trraining. i am nervous cuz he does not know whare he will get stationed or if he will get sent to iraq, but i love him very much i hope he is not gone that much. do you live on bace he says that we i go w him he does not want me on base because he is scared there will be too many men hitting on me or that the other wives will have problems in there marrages and that those things will cause problems w us. i dont think they will i am a good girl adn i just told him i would like to have other wife friends who are going through the same things. do you have children? i do not but he want to asap! well i will be on alot more now, i go tomarrow morning to my appt wish me luck!

I do live on base and I love it because everyone else in housing has to deal with the same life issues as you do and there is a common ground that is shared so it makes it nice when you live on base. As far as military men hitting on you, I don't really see that as a problem because I have alot of friends that are absolutely gorgeous and thin and they don't have those problems at at all. It all breaks down to your husband trusting you and you trusting him. He cant really use that approach to living on base because you should consider how many women he is working with every day and you have to trust that he isn't going to do anything so I don't see living on base as a challenge. I do have two wonderful children, a 4 year old daughter and a 1 1/2 year old son and we are finished having children. You will know what I mean once you have your own! Definately lose the weight you want to and maintain it for at least six months before getting pregnant because you will be extreamly suseptable to gaining it back and more if you get pregnant right after losing weight. Take it slow because there is always time to start a family.

Hey SarahBryant...
Welcome to the military boards! My hubby and I got married almost 2 years ago. He's in the Army. Just like naenaeduck...I, too, love the military life. We currently don't live on base, but that's only because he's stationed at a decommissioned base and there is very little facilities. It's like not even being on a base. We don't go thru a gate or anything. There are more civilians around here than there are military personnel. I, personally, can't wait till he gets transferred to a 'real base'. The whole atmosphere is better!
Also, just so that you know, it seems that most of the military spouses are posting on the 'other' post for the military boards called 'Military Wives'...so if you want to join in on that board that would be awesome, there's more of us there.
So...Welcome!!

Hey Ladies! I'm not brand new to being a military wife but still somewhat new. We just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary, but have been together for 3 years overall. People kept telling me that the first year of marriage is the hardest but my husband was activated for 8 months out of the first year, and went to training camps and various courses totaling another 4-5 weeks. So the first year was hard because we had to put off starting a family and not seeing each other which led me to gaining roughly 45 pounds in roughly 10-11 months. I am a very emotional eater.
So as of January 5th, 2008 I signed up for Jenny and was determined to drop 60 pounds and fit into my size 6 Cache gown that I wore to our first Enlisted Military Ball back in 2005. In ten weeks I have lost a total of 27 pounds and am only 2 pounds away from my halfway goal weight.
After a little over a month of being on Jenny, my husband and I decided for him to go off active duty orders (he activated voluntarily) so we could have some time together and hopefully start a family, especially since he's supposed to be getting deployed for a second tour in approximately April 2009 with the 30th Infantry out of NC. My husband is now Active Reserve Status again, and will receive his twenty year letter this November! But the big question is whether he'll retire or stay in for the extra time. I married a soldier, no matter what his status has been - special forces, reserve, or active - he's only been happy in that uniform. I love being a military wife! Eating well and exercising regularly is harder than being a military wife - oh ironic.
I have 31 more pounds to go to get where I was when we first started dating, which I can't wait to accomplish!
Good luck ladies with your programs! My mother's words keep ringing in my head "You can do anything you put your mind too!" (Kind of corny but oh so true.)

armywife0303,

Hello! I am an Air Force wife kinda in same boat as you. My husband and I only knew each other though for about 5 months (long distance texas/missouri) when we married. I moved to Missouri to be with him June '06 and soon after got a 2nd shift job. So for our first year I worked 2nd shift 5-6 nights a week, then exactly one year after moving here he was sent to Korea and has been there since. He will be coming home June 1, 2008. So, over 2 years of being married and we'll finally get some time together. He gets his 20 year mark in June as well and we are contemplating his retirement or the extra years. I hate knowing that if he stays in he's up for deployment rotation in about 9 months but if he gets out thats a whole other stress for someone who has been military for so long.
I also gained a majority of my weight since he's been gone. For me it was a total gain of 20 lbs in the last year with an add'l 10 in the year before. My goal was to lose that 10 while he was gone, instead I gained it 2x over. My trouble doesn't seem to be that I emotionally eat but rather depression kicks in and I just sit or sleep.

Anyway, I just saw your post, thought I'd drop a hello and good luck with goals. I've been reading posts for the encouragement as I am a very new member. It helps!

Kristal

sarahbryant-- Welcome to the ranks of an Infantry Wife. I have been married to my husband since he joined the Army 15 years ago. I wanted to tell you that your husband has probally heard horror stories about living on post and the things that can go on there. I grew up as a Navy Brat and have been an Army wife for a long time now. I can tell you that I lived on bases and post and it is what you make of it. With my husband, we have spent a majority of his career living in military housing. It is really nice now and has come a long way. You again make it what you want it to be. If you choose to get involved with the neighborhood dramas then you can hear the good the bad and the ugly. I for one was the best of friends with my neighbors and many of my life long friends have come from my living arrangements. The military is full of challenges good and bad, it is all how you make them work for you. Again, welcome from one infantry wife to another. You will do just fine.
