I would like to be a vegitarian but don't know how to prepare tofu. I have tried draining it and marinating it, but it always has a funny aftertaste.
Any help would be appreciated.

I like to take firm tofu, drain it, and then just stir fry it with some veggies in a wok.
I use olive oil to stir fry, and then drizzle some seasame seed oil on in the last few minutes. I love it.
There are many, many ways to prepare tofu - I think your best bet would be to do a google search for "tofu" and go from there.

Thanks for the reply!
I just found out that it is tofu is in the rice of the "chicken potsticker" dinner. I had no idea! Seems like it would be easy to make the "dumplings" themselves from Tofu.
I will try to cook up some firm tofu the way you suggested with the different oils.
My husband and I had gone veg. for a year before, that's about how long it takes to get tired of Morningstar Farms and Boca Burgers. This time, I want to have a better plan. I hate that we failed before. We were just not getting enough variety (and maybe not enough protein either). I didn't eat milk products, but didn't like the taste of soy milk.
I absolutely HATE the meat industry! PETA does a good job educating people about that.
We got ZERO support for our veg. lifestyle with our family. They kept pushing meat at us (especially at the Holidays) so that combined with the lack of variety, slowly brought us back to our old ways.
Thanks for the help,
I will search for more recipies on the net. I am no chef, though.
Worth a good try.

I made a meal w/tofu and veggies that my son and I can eat. It's my secret recipe and I'm willing to share it with you:
Put oil (peanut oil or veggie oil) in a frying pan and heat.
Take extra firm tofu and cut into cubes and add it to the pan.
After lightly browning, add a package of Green Giant or Birdseye mixed frozen stirfry veggies (I found a kind that offers it with a little rice or noddles - not a lot, which is great! and the veggies are perfect).
Then add about a 1/2 cup of light Teriyaki sauce.
Sprinkle in a bit of seasoning: Crushed red peppers.
AND THE SECRET INGREDIENT: Add 2 tbs. of Jiffy Extra Crunchy peanut butter (my favorite)
Heat and eat!
Let me tell you, once you've had this, you will incorporate it as one of your dinners, and it's good for the whole family. It contains everything you need for your dinner - just portion out your 4 oz of tofu!
