Full Version: Gelatin and other animal stuff in JC food?

I am thinking about joining JC, so I was looking at some of the online menus. I'm a vegetarian, and it kind of concerned me that at the bottom of the vegetarian menu, it says that some of the foods may have gelatin or other animal enzymes. Does anyone know if this is true, and of so, how much of the food contains this stuff? I eat dairy and eggs, but gelatin is a big no no. Thanks all!

I've read that there is gelatin in the suffed shells dinner and the cheesecake (is this correct, guys?). I dont know if there is any in other meals. I'm sure other people will respond if they know anything about it...

Yes, there are animal by-products in alot of the food. But the menus aren't labeled "vegetarian", they are "meatless". Anything with cheese in it most likely has rennet; so you are probably out of luck since most of the food in the meatless menu has cheese.
I am a veg, and I am following the "meatless" plan, but am making concessions for the by-products. Right now I would rather be getting healthy and thin. I know that sounds bad, but we all have our priorities, ya know!

I am not worried about the rennet (i know I shouldn't eat it but I do anyway), just the gelatin...or stuff like animal stock or animal fat...things like that.

Just another reason I am seriously thinking about quitting. I was willing to put up with eggs and cheese but not gelatin or enzymes! Maybe there is a lsit of foods without the offending ingredients?

Hello, I have been a member of JC for one month now and have actually gained three pounds. I have a lot of issues with the program, but one that I definitely need assistance with is about your products that include gelatin and other animal bi-products. I am a strict vegetarian (no fish, no gelatin) and I need to know WHICH vegetarian JC foods have gelatin in them. I did post a message on the "Ask the Dietitian" board so hopefully they will reply with a list of which products to avoid.
As an aside, I feel that in this day and age it is shameful and UNNECESSARY to keep creating foods that use this as an ingredient. Truly, it is not a necessary component of the foods that we consume.
Whew, okay, I am done ranting! Anyway I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone since I am new to these "boards."
Best wishes to all my fellow veggies --- and let's keep lobbying for more MEAT-FREE foods!
