I'm on my second week. I walk 20 minutes each way to work each day, but I've been doing that for years, including when I put on my extra weight. Should I be working out more? My JCC said since I wasn't controlling portions before, it should be enough exercise, but it doesn't feel like it. Shouldn't I be breaking a sweat?

Excercise is always a good idea! You should excercise at a level that is comfortable for you. If you can do some additional form of cardio (walking, biking etc.) it will pay off big in your weight loss program, not to mention you will feel much better overall!!! I do not know what fitness level you are at but, 30 minutes of brisk walking per day is a good start. I see that you are walking to work but in order to lose weight, you need to up your excercise level above what you are currently doing....I am a very active excerciser and it has made a bid difference in my weight loss,..I sure of it!! Good luck!!!

If you've been walking that same pace and not losing weight B/4 JC then I say your body is so used to that same 'ole pace that you might want to BUMP it up a bit -- go for 25 min and keep adding 5 minutes until you can do more.
I'm up to doing the elliptical for 1 hour where as before I could barely do 13 min b/4 passing out.
Good luck and I bet when you start walking a little more each day or even every other day the weight will DROP!

Walking to work is what I would call natural activity. You still need exercise. Your goal is to elevate your heart rate, preferrably for 20 minutes at a time. That means at least 30 minutes of exercise so that you have warm up and cool down time.
Your body becomes very efficient at what you ask it to do all of the time. There are plenty of overweight people that do all kinds of rigorous physical activity on a regular basis. You have to do more and different from what you normally do. I'd recommend something besides walking, if that's an option at all. I also think it's good for your brain to know that you're chosing to do something else positive for yourself AND to give yourself a challenge.
Best wishes to you on your journey!
