Full Version: Surviving "Guys Weekend" in Las Vegas

I signed up in the beginning of September, 2006 and knew this trip was coming up but decided against the advice of friends "Wait until after Vegas".
So five weeks in I have the four day trip to Las Vegas with ten of my best guy friends that we do every year. The theme this year was "Party Like a Rockstar".
Scary, huh?
But I think in the end my JC brainwashing, er... Training helped me a lot. I am very pleased to report I made very good choices.
We had a horribly early flight on Saturday, I got picked up by another friend at 4:45 AM for a 7:00 AM flight. While my friends had bloody mary's in the Crown Room at the airport, I had a diet coke. I did force down a JC Blueberry Muffin before my ride came and force is the key word. About the LAST thing I want to do at 4:30 AM is eat.
Anyway - used my miles and had a first class ticket on Delta to Atlanta then on to Las Vegas. We were served lunch on the Atlanta-LV flight, some kind of mushroom ravioli. Thankfully I despise mushroom, so I ate the salad and the whole wheat roll and a few bites of the ravioli. I was doing well so far.
We stayed four days at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino as we always do. The Excalibur is a middle of the road kind of place, but they give us free rooms and send a limo for us at the airport, and as my friend Sal says, "It's better to be a big fish in a small pond".
Anyway - they have a food court on the second floor with a McDonalds, Cold Stone Ice Cream and a Krispy Freaking Kreme! I'm proud to report I had NOTHING from any of those places. I ate a low fat bourbon chicken sub one day at Quizno's up there and beef and broccoli at the Manchu Wok place.
The big test was Sunday night our one "big night" out to dinner when we could pull everyone out of the casino. So off we go to "Smith & Wollensky's" probably one of the finer steak chains in the country. Could I make it through this?
As I watch my friends order the 26 oz prime rib, the 24 oz NY strip, etc I order the cajun grilled filet mignon at a nice 10 ounces. I'm pleased to report that I ate about 1/3 of the steak and ate a bunch of salad, and this fantastic broccoli and asparagus that the restraunt prepared. I also completely skipped dessert. My friends were amazed as they crammed the red meat away at record pace!
So all in all, I survived it. I skipped my Monday weigh in because I was out of town, but stepped on the scale at the grocery store last night to see how bad it was. I was SHOCKED to see 212 pounds on the scale with my shoes on! SO I must be 211 without them right? Could I have LOST five pounds this week?
I look very much forward to my weigh in on Monday night and will report the results back.
Have a great weekend!

Woohooo, Bob! Way to go! Congratulations. See, we do learn a few things on this program. It's all about choices. We will all eventually be turned out on our own -- we can't eat exclusively Jenny's food for ever. Isn't it great knowing that you can still go out with your buddies, have a good time, and not gain a lot of weight in the process? Fun is not all about food (which is something I have learned) but rather about the company and the good times. Pat yourself on the back! Yes, do tell us how you did on your weigh-in.
And just think, if you had waited until after the trip to join you would not have made good choices and had a lot more to lose. You are way ahead of the game!

Congratulations! I'm sure you must have done a lot of walking while there too. So that combined with your healthy choices obviously made a difference. And can I say WOW - you passed up warm krispy kremes! You rock!
