I am really upset. I had a weigh in tonight and I GAINED 4 oz. I am trying to lose 35 pounds – went from 167.3 to 167.7
I joined last Thursday the 23rd and started officially on the 24th. My first weigh in was supposed to be this coming Saturday but I didn’t have enough food. I called JC today to see what we should do and they said come in tonight and we’ll do your consultation.
I spoke with the director and asked, since I signed up for the lifetime/rewards program, if someone should have called me to check on me during the week. The Director said, oh my your consultant is out of town and no one followed up with you?
I have eaten all of the food except the second day on the program when I went to a wedding. Had the pesto chicken and steamed veggies then.
The thing about all of this is that I am on cardio rehab with exercises on a treadmill and bicycle 3 times a week for an hour each and I am watching my 20 month old granddaughter 4 times a week and actually running around and chasing her and playing from 2:30 to 7:00 every night. Plus 2 times a week go to the office – I’m a computer consultant. This is the most exercise I have had in years!
The lady I spoke with tonight didn’t seem very supportive at all, and said people who eat all the food every day lose weight. Well guess what. I gained.
She also told me that I should come in for weigh ins earlier in the day because people weigh less at that time. That doesn’t sound very logical to me, if I lost weight it would show on the scale unless I just had a huge meal which I didn’t. It’s not that I expected a miracle 10 pound drop, just 1 pound would have been good
I am trying this for week 2 to see what happens, if I gain weight again. Don’t know what I will do, probably go back to not eating at all. I am so upset I could cry.

When was your weigh in before? there is a huge difference between the morning and the afternoon, and if you vary from week to week, you will notice. We gain about 2-5 pounds during the day from things like retained water etc. DON'T FRET!!! A million things may have happened — you could have gained muscle from all that working out and muscle weighs more than fat. Go by your body. I only lost 1 pound this week for 10 days, and the last seven I finally got back into hard core exercising, at first I was disappointed, then I was like, my clothes fit better than 10 days ago, I feel better and more energized, so what do I care what the scale says from week to week, it may only be 1 pound this week (or .5 my second week) but in the last month I have lost 7 pounds and almost fit back into the clothes I haven't worn since before I went on a road trip last summer and started to gain weight. And then I think, well, if i stick with it for another month, and lose 7 more, that puts me at my wedding weigh, which would be awesome. So baby steps. One week isn't the be all end all, take it a month at a time, adjust and it will work for you! Don't give up, good luck!

Thanks, but my first weight in was at night too.
I actually am way more bloated and things aren't fitting - even my fat clothes.
Good thought about the muscle. Might be - Ahh a ray of hope.
Giving it another week.

About 4 of the 8oz bottles a day.

There could be a culpret. With all you work out, you should drink at least 64 oz a day (caveat, I am not a nutritionist, so probably double check with JC, you can always give the 800 number a call). To make it easy, I have a 20 oz Aquafina bottle and I just make sure to fill it 3 or 4 times a day (1 before lunch, 1 at lunch, 1 in the afternoon & 1 when I work out). That will help with the bloating. I know the days I don't get enough water, I feel it the next day...When I am sick of water I have those new Cristal light to go, there are single services you pour in a waterbottle so I can have lemonaide or iced tea and it counts as a water. What also helped me when I was feeling like i was bloated was cutting out any soda (diet of course), now I might have a can every few days...hope something here is helpful...

I had my first weigh in last wednesday and I did not loose weight too. I can see what you are talking about. It is extremely frustrating. Do it for one more week and I think you will see some results. This is how I see it - I am at least eating healthy. I eat more veggies and fruits everday. That's definitely a good start!!
I also feel the same way about my consultant. She was not helpful. So I am going to ask for a change too and see how it goes this week.
Good luck to you for this week and hope everything works for you!!

Perhaps you are eating more fibre than you are used to?? that happens with a lot of people at the begining..which would also explain the bloated feeling you've been having.
If you don't have a loss by your next weigh in I would go over your menu with your consultant. Also watch your salt intake as well.
Good luck.

If you give it time you will see that each month your weight fluctuates (female thing). I was on Jenny years ago and it does work. I found that I would have a week where I would lose very little or even gain a bit. I would also have a week where I would have a large drop, followed by a plateau. Once I started looking at the big picture, I saw the pattern. Week before steady or gain, during small drop, week after large drop and finally small drop fourth week. Hang in there and give it a while. All the exercise might be making you retain water as well. It is good for you, so keep it up.

I'm sure everything will smooth out. Don't stop now! Just keep on the plan, drink your water and keep chasing that grandkid...that should be enough exercise for anyone!

As others have stressed here, the water is really important in your journey. Your body needs it and if are only drinking 32 ounces a day then it could be that your body is hanging on to that water.

One other thing to add - your body could very well be reacting to how and what you ate BEFORE you started the plan. You said in your original message that you would "go back to" not eating anything at all. I don't know if you were just kidding or what - but if this is true, then that is probably a big reason right there. If you were starving your body before, or if you were doing low carb diets, or actually any diet, well then your body is going to react against that - most likely by hanging onto everything it can possibly get because it has been deprived of what it really needs for so long. If this is the case - give it about a month - your body needs to readjust to understand that it is not going to be starved again - that it can process the food the way it is supposed to and let go of it.
If you are truly following the plan, then you are probably eating healthier than you have in a long time. Your body needs to get used to this - you need to un-do the damage that has been done from before. Going back to what you were doing before will just make it that much harder - and in the long run do a heck of a lot more damage to your body.
Give it time - the weight will come off.

I have to say the plan really does work. I have faithfully done the plan since January 7th of this year (no deviations) and I have lost over 32 lbs at last weeks weigh in. I have just really started excersing in the last 6 weeks---was really a couch potato before. Everyone loses at a different rate. I would have to agree that getting plenty of water is vital. I also drink tons of iced decaf green tea (w/splenda) it seems to help my metabolism. I also religiously weigh at the same time of day. As silly as it sounds, I wear the same outfit to my JC appt each week to weigh in.
Hang in there! It will happen!!

One other thing to consider is if you are taking anything for high blood pressure or anti-anxiety medications. I am taking both and its slowed my metabolism to a crawl (I'm sure no exercise has contributed as well). But, its something to consider. My BP meds makes my pulse rate drop because without it, its racing in the 90's-100's even when I wake up in the AM.
Good luck and keep your head up.

I always lose more the second week than the first. Whether it's Weight Watchers, JC or on my own. I think it takes time for my body to catch up. I am not losing tons, generally 1-2 lbs a week and get envious of those on this board that continuously lose more than that a week but am also 51 and just now starting to exercise. Weather is finally breaking and we have started walking group at work during lunch time.

Don't loose faith! Just stick to the program and the results will follow. It can be very frustrating when the scale doesn't show our efforts but don't sabotage now!
The concept of weighing more in the am versus pm is silly! If you are consistently weighing in once per week... the time of day is irrelevant.
Stick to it and it will work.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am on the 2nd week and sticking to the plan exactly. I have preplanned meals.
For years I have not eaten very well. The typical day was a granola bar at 1 or 1:30 a frozen dinner around 5:30 then some cereal around 10 at night. We thought we were eating correctly. Making home made chicken soup - no salt, lean hamburger, fish etc. But we weren't. This is the most food I have eaten in a day in over 30 years. At times I am totally stuffed, others, my tummy is growling - loudly.
I am on 7 medications. As for the metabolism, it seems that I didn't have one before because as a lot of you pointed out that I have been starving my body for years.
I saw my doctor today and talked about this whole issue and he agreed that my metabolism is just now starting to get kicked back into gear.
I know I'm supposed to drink more water, but I still haven't gotten there. I have been drinking coffee since I was 9 and that's pretty much it for me. I have been branching out a bit but it's hard.
So the bottom line, is I don't have to worry about the size of the meals, just that I need the meals in order to burn fat and get fit again.
Thanks again everyone. I will be posting more as my journey continues.

A Follow up of my unique journey.
2nd week weigh in - GAINED 1.5 pounds and have been religiously following the preplanned menu. Still exercising 3 x a week for 1 hour - 1/2 of this on a treadmill, and watching my 20 month old granddaughter 3 times a week.
Weighed in on Saturday Apr 8th. Talked with my consultant - first time I've met her - who immediately put a call in to the dietitians. We talked about the calories of each menu item as I feel that I am eating too much. I substituted a few items from the preplanned menu with lower calorie choices and removing some of the fat items. We are waiting to hear from the dietitian on Monday as to what the issue is.
I have drunk so much water that I could float away. As I said I am following religiously. Evidently this happens with a very few clients - oh joy - I'm one of them.
I am still in the program which is the 3rd week. Will post what we hear from the dietitian.
The funny thing about all of this is my husband says my face is starting to not look so round!
