Three basic tips to help you get the most out of these boards and help keep things organized and reduce clutter for other users. These tips are REALLY standard for any bulletin board community. We have no enforcement here at all, it's kind of a free-for-all, but on some boards they are enforced. So, if you're new to using bulletin boards, they can help you out elsewhere as well.
  • It can be really helpful to read through previous posts before posting a question. We see a LOT of the same questions over and over and over again, sometimes within a few days. For example, I could probably go through and find at least half a dozen "loose skin" questions posted in various areas over the last couple of weeks. Please take a few minutes to cruise through the boards or use the search function to look for topics you are curious about and see if they've been discussed before. You can easily change the range of posts that appear to allow you to look back farther than 30 days, too.
  • Please post in the appropriate topic areas. For example, there is a Dining Out board, a board for different buddy searches, a board for food ideas, weekly weigh-ins, exercise, etc. It really helps make the board easier to use when you stick to the topic areas and don't just post randomly, or in the same area regardless of the topic. Else, why have topic areas?
  • Cross-posting -- putting the same post in more than one area -- is considered bad manners on bulletin boards. Sometimes there's a very good reason to do so, but the vast majority of the time it's more appropriate to pick the best topic area and post once. This not only eliminates clutter (which can be VERY annoying if you use the "Active Topics Today" feature) but concentrates your discussion in one place.

AMEN! And I always feel so bad when we get a posting from a newbie talking about how everyone is ignoring him/her. I swear we are not ignoring and we would love to help - but I agree with funniegrrl - sometimes I can only post the same message so many times.
