I am just weighing in today for the 2nd time. I lost 4.5 pounds in my first week but I was excited about that.. Think of it in the way of potato bags.. think really how much 5 pounds weights.. that is nothing to be sad about. I have a friend on WW and she is on her 4th wee and has only lost 8.8 pounds.. Don't feel down, everyone loses in different amounts. Keep your chin up! Are you drinking a lot of water? That really helps in weight loss since it gets rid of your water weight. Let me know how things go. We have a buddy group we have started if you want to join us. Send me your e-mail address if you are interested. Good luck!

ALmost the same thing happened to me! My first week I lost 7 pounds and the second week, only .3! I made it up the next week. Keep going, you can do this. Weight loss is not always even from week to week. You can do this

Keep your chins up!
Think about the weightloss from your body's point of view. You lose a lot of weight first week and your body freaks out. It's afraid of the sudden water loss (by the way it's mostly water that was stored) so it starts to hang onto water just in case a famine has set in all of a sudden. By the end of the second week, it realizes food and water are still coming in on a regular basis, no need to hoard, and it begins to let go of weight again.
Keep in mind the body can only lose 1-2 lbs of FAT a week. Anything more than that is water or your muscle that is being broken down for fuel- not good!
So keep eating and drinking and the weight loss will follow.
Think of weightloss as a giant staircase, not an escalator. It has landings so your body can catch it's breath and adjust.
I'm going through the same thing myself.

I look at it as a year from when I started which will be September 2006. Not week to week. I think many of the people who write posts who have returned and gained BACK weight would be thrilled to have either stayed the same or be less than when they started JC. It is like the Angels losing last night on a missed call. They sucked it up and moved on!

Gottaloose,
You did real good the first week and don't worry about the .4 loss on your second weigh in, you didn't gain and even if it said you were + pounds you have to think of if it is that time of month when we all retain water. I don't look forwward to that time of month as i know what's going to happen.
Keep doing what you are doing and don't get discouraged. there are a lot of factors in regards to why we loose a lot one week and not enough the next week. You don't want to loose too fast as I was told by my consultant but also to be prepared of that time of month and the fluid retention and bloatedness effects the scale.
I was sort of disappointed my first weigh in was only a weight loss of 3.1 lbs when i see everyone was between 4 and 7 lbs LOL but hey i am not complaining now. I am actually excited because that is 3 lbs less than what i walked into the center with last week.
Keep the chin up and don't give up.

'morning, ladies...i'm off to drive the 58 miles to my JC Centre. just finished my first week...i'm optimistic only b/c i worked the program 100% for 5 days of it and worked out 4x this week. tried the "oh, i'll eat 'normal' for the two days i'm w/ my sweetie" and found out this clearly won't work! ok, so the upside is i learned a lesson that if you're going to work JC, WORK IT!
and if you're not, don't expect the same results. i also got in my exercise this week (rowing for 30min then treadmill walking for 10 more min.) SO, will i be disappointed if i haven't lost when i weigh in? of course! will i try to put it in the "long-term" prospective just like Chardonney58 suggested (way to go girl!)
congrats to Gottaloose! aren't you in a better place then the week b/f you started?
everyone have a FABU Thurs!

CissininUtah ... let us know how it went!! I was amazed that it's 58 miles to the JC center. I live in the San Fernando Valley near Los Angeles and pass three of them on my way home from work: Woodland Hills, Encino and Studio City. I go to the furthest from my home (Woodland Hills) but it's before I get on the freeway coming home so it's the most convenient and has the easiest parking. And each one is so crowded right now that they book more than one person at a time for the first session where they give the sales pitch.

Gottalose - as people have mentioned above, there are a MILLION reasons for your smaller loss - although it is still a loss - gotta keep our eyes on the prize. We really have to learn to let go of the number on the scale - it really doesn't mean anything, and we give it so much power. Just an example for me - the last three weeks, my weight has not changed from 174. BUT, my measurements have - I have lost 2 inches off my waist in the last three weeks from working out and lifting weights. I am wearing a smaller size - and the number on the scale hasn't changed. If I let that number control me, then I am going to go off and cheat, when the reality is, I am still doing great and still changing my body. One thing I have really had to do is try to focus on month to month, rather than week to week. I have had weeks where I have lost 2 pounds. I have also had weeks where I have lost .5 or 0 pounds. But, each month I am consistently down. If I went off my program every time I had a .5 or 0 loss - I would NEVER get to the 2 pound losses and I wouldn't be almost 15 pounds lighter than when I started. Remember, we didn't put it on overnight and we are not going to take it off overnight, no matter how hard we want to.
One other thing I thought of, after seeing your post - your signature block doesn't say how tall you are. People who have less weight to lose generally lose less at each weigh in. For example, I am 5'9", and I weigh 174 right now. My goal is 140 - 34 pounds from where I am. So, on a week to week basis, I am probably going to lose significantly less than someone my height who weighs say, 230 and has close to 100 pounds to lose.
What I have repeatedly heard here is not to compare yourself to other people. Your body is your body. You have your own hormones and metabolism, body fat, workout schedule, age, height, etc. No two people lose weight the same - so only your body knows what is right for it. If you keep doing the right things, the weight WILL come off - there are enough success stories on these boards to guarantee that. But, you have to be patient and you have to put in the work, week after week. I remember reading about someone on here who had a 4 month plateau - 4 MONTHS!!! And then she went on to lose something like another 20-30 pounds. If we want to be successful on this plan, we all have to have this person's motivation. Think about it - if the scale stays exactly the same for 4 months, are you going to have the motivation to stick with it? I sure hope that I do!
Good luck!
