My 3rd day was my hardest. I felt REALLY bad, especially in the morning. But by evening, however, I started feeling MUCH better. Unfortunately I think most people need to just gut it out for the first week or so, but it gets MUCH better. I'm almost finished with my fourth week and it amazes me how much LESS food I eat now and that I don't get REALLY hungry hardly ever. When I do get really hungry, I eat some of the "free foods" and that helps too.

Dear Chicc,
I started JC back in August of 2003 and have really struggled to stay focused and motivated. I really know what you are feeling. I am still working on motivating myself. And I have to work at it every day. You have to try to stay focused on where you want to be. I just put up pictures on my fridge of me at my fattest and my thinnest. That always gives a reminder. I have also started taking an appetite suppressant to help. That may not be good for you but it helps me alot. I also love to eat alot too but I have to realize that this is going to be a lifestyle change otherwise I will just remain overweight. And also the first couple of weeks are going to be hard. Your body is used to eating alot of calories and now has to adjust. I still feel hungry but am getting used to it. Make sure to drink water too. That helps with the hunger pains. I hope you get something out of this. Just hang in there!!

Make sure you drink plenty of water - try for 8 8oz glasses.
Also, make full use of the free vegetables. Basically, you can eat as much of any non-starchy vegetable as you want. This is things like carrots, celery, lettuce, radish, peppers, etc. The ones that you want to avoid are peas, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes (yams), parsnip, and beans (except for green beans).
There is a list on the back of the pre-planned menus of the free foods.
It usually takes a week or two for your body to adjust to the lower calorie level.
Good luck and do your best to stick it out.

It's harder at first and then you start thinking of something else besides when the next meal will be served. If I feel like I want something to eat and it's almost time for bed, I go ahead and go to bed. Apples with peanut butter every afternoon help me alot. That one apple gets me stuffed. Hang in there and the thoughts of food will lessen.

Thanks for this thread...first day I am feeling rather empty. Fixing hubby's dinner was a chore. The bread killed me! But I didn't cave...came straight here to start reading and posting. Great tool! And great advice everyone! It's good to know that this won't last and it will get better!
Thanks
Pam

Here's some words of encouragement,
I'm on my third week now and suddenly don't feel as hungry. It's something that takes awhile to get used to though, so just be patient and if you feel hunger, eat steamed veggies and drink water, or eat just a bit more than the menu allows for. The first two weeks I added half a sandwich when I fetl unbearably hungry. It didn't seem to hinder the weight loss at all, and even though I was eating a bit more, it was far better than not doign this JC thing at all, so remember that. Think of how you ate before and how you eat now and think of your new awareness, and with all that, you should succeed!

Your body is getting adjusted to the drop in calories and is complaining. If you must eat a little more, instead of junk food, try the healthiest thing closest to your craving. Like corn/popcorn for bread. Or a piece of fruit or sugar-free gelatin. Try to figure out when the cravings hit the hardest and save your snacks for that time. Taking multivitamins, supplements can help to curb the cravings because they meet nutrition needs your body may be lacking. Like during TOM, I usually crave carbs and red meat. Then I found out you burn almost 1000 calories a day more during TOM and just before. No wonder you crave carbs. The other may be for protein or iron needs. So pick something "legal" that will be a good source in a small amt. Yes, drinking enough water (2 liter/day) will help cut cravings also. Diet pop/soda may deplete iron due to the carbonation, so watch. It also makes you retain water.
Keep up the good work girls!
