Finally Motivated
Do any of you know when JC will be adding more foods to the menu? I've been told quaterly???
I'm getting very bored with the same offerings week after week. I am on week 7 now and don't want to lose the momentum but I am starting to crave variety.
Any suggestions?

I'm know what you mean, I think that we'll start seeing some new items in January. I think, from what I've read on other posts, that both the special edition foods and the permanent foods will be out sometime in Jan. 2004. I'm looking forward to some new choices too.

I agree with you. After trying the meals and weeding out what you dont' like, there is not at much variety left. Can't wait to see the new unveiling of foods next month.

Have you thought about incorporating a few of your own meals for variety? I'm doing that some now and I like it.

Finally, think about what you have said. I'm sorry, but it sounds a lot like a lame excuse to me. You haven't been on the program long enough to have seen the same entrees more than a couple of times. If it were you favorite fast food restaurant instead, would you be getting tired of "lack of variety?"
Before JC, I found I went to the same places and bought the same three or four things every time. Same with the meals we fix at home. I never knew real variety before JC.
How much variety did you really get in your diet before JC? Be honest--are you having a problem with lack of variety, or are you just looking for an excuse to have whatever you want?
There is a large amount of variety in the JC meals. It's built in to the program. If you want some more variety, try fixing a few meals from the JC cookbooks. You can have it be your "dining out" meal.
You're changing your life, so you won't be going back to fixing your same old recipes the dame old way again--not if you want to maintain. So you need to start looking at food in a whole different way unless you want to be back not too long from now, with the old pounds back and bringing a few friends along. You already know your old way of thinking about food wasn't working for you--so why would you even want to think about returning to those old habits?

Eating by whim -- what I wanted, when I wanted it -- was what got me to 300+ pounds. Changing that mindset, learning to like healthy foods instead of ones that were rich with fat & carbs, was a big part of my "conversion" when I started the program.
Let's face it, you have to retrain yourself to think about food in a new way. To be enjoyed, certainly, because that's only human, but to also see it, in the end, as just fuel for your body -- not entertainment, not a hobby, not a reason to get up in the morning. Also, I know a lot of people are here because they have learned to eat only a narrow range of foods, and their palate is so dulled and they are so comfortable in their habits, that they think only a few foods are appealing. If you are "bored" this early on, it may be because you haven't made that switch and realized that eating by whim is a PROBLEM, and unlearning that habit is important. OR that you refuse to eat so many of the JC entrees that you are left with only a handful that you will order.
I've been on the program OVER 2 years and I still am not "bored with the food." Not only did I make a conscious decision to learn to like healthy food, and try a wider variety of foods, but I got creative early on in the program. You don't have to just eat the food out of the box. Use the ingredients in creative ways -- put the chili on a salad to make taco salad, mix roasted vegetables in the chicken fettucini, add curry powder to the lentils, etc. Do a few meals on your own once per week. If you've refused to even try some of the JC entrees, try them. Then if you still don't like it, try it again in a month. You'll be surprised at how your tastes will change, if you keep a positive attitude and TRY to like new things.
There's plenty of variety, but if the foods don't match your tastes, then you have to decide which is more important -- accepting the challenge of broadening your palate, being creative with the food you have, and maybe eating foods that aren't your very favorite, or staying just as you are.

funniegirl is very very right,
attitude is key to being successful
my consultant told me the sure signs of a client going downhill
late for appts,
cancel appts and complain about the food,
keep a good attitude, i think that is about 95% of the program
i too love the food and do not ever get tired of it
i do add lots of veggies to every meal and often saute' the veggies,
i buy one red, yellow and orange pepper each week and saute' them with the some of my meals
i put kiwi in my yogurt, nice change,
use ICBINB spray on the french toast, makes the syrup go further
so far i cannot find one thing i do not like about JC,
i am lucky to have a very very good centre

Don't be discouraged, I've thought several times in the last two weeks....gosh, I "think" I'm getting sick of the food...but then I FORCED myself to say, "NO, I'm not.." Ellen is absolutely right, seriously, when I think about it, I had pretty much the same EXACT thing everyday.....the ONLY variety was really at lunch...breakfast was EXACTLY the same for 6 months....and then maybe I'd get something different for another 6 months...dinner was Wendy's EVERYDAY...the 99 cent menu, cheap and easy....but I love french fries and I love egg and cheese in the morning so for variety...who cared? I didn't and my butt stayed large for it....I think you really need to keep on keepin on to aquire a PERMANANT taste for the good stuff, I actually now prefer steamed veggies w/ ICBINB spray......it fills me up and it's easy to nuke and cheap.....and you can always have different veggies....it's alot easier to just give up, so it's tempting, just try to re-adjust your thinking and eventually all the good stuff will be habit...I've also been looking a ton of low-fat recipes....there's great stuff out there that's yummy and healthy!!
