I've battled a 2 or 3 day cigarette habit for a couple of years. While it's ALWAYS a good time to give those buggers up, you might want to wait until you feel very comfortable with the new eating plan and really adopt it as a way of life before trying to quit smoking, since during the initial phase of quitting you'll have lots of cravings. Sugar-free gum can only do so much!

I didn't mean 2 or 3 day. I meant 2 or 3 cigarettes a day. My brain is in slow motion. Sorry.

I think part of the program is to adopt a healthy lifestyle habits. Smoking isn't the best option when you are trying to make positive changes is your life, but it's completely up to you. If you are just starting the program, and feel you might get off track because of munchies or the stress that kicking a nicotine habit will bring, don't do it yet. Do it when you feel ready to. When you do feel ready, there are prescription medicines that can help you. Your probably not the first person to face this dilemma, ask your counselor. That's what they are there for.
Good luck!

Hi:
I am on Jenny Craig because I quit smoking. I smoked for 25 years - 2packs a day. I quit in November and gained 40 pounds within a couple of months. Obviously I was replacing one with the other. I wish I would have know then what I know now. I would replace with healthy eating and exercise. I used wellbutrin to quit (Zyban). It was actually not that hard BUT then again - chocolate was there for me. I am glad I quit and now am losing the weight. I am just about at the pre-quit weight and still going.
Good luck.

I too smoke just a few cigs a day. Last week, I got a perscription for Nicotrol Inhaler. It works pretty well for cravings. I have been smoking just one or two at night but go the whole day without cigarettes.
One good reason to quit while you're trying to lose weight, is that it is easier to exercise when you don't smoke. I quit smoking last Oct. and started again in March. I have a mild type of asthma where I wheeze when it's cold out or sometimes when I exercise. So, when I started smoking again, I exercised less and gained weight. I also started school at that time, so I had less time to exercise.
With JC, I'm adding the other component to weight loss -- the food side to my exercise program. I'm smoking less so I can exercise more. I think quitting smoking fits in with the JC idea of a healthier lifestyle --
Good luck and good eating.

Hi, to introduce myself, I'm Alfie in Los Angeles. I quit smoking thankfully, one and a half years ago. It's not easy at all. Exercise a lot and keep busy. The worst is watching tv, on the phone long or at the computer. Expect to gain weight unless you are very careful. I wasn't careful and now, am on Jenny Craig. Over and out!
