Hi! I'm a new, nursing mom and have been put on the 2,300 calorie menu. My consultant told me to add a sandwich each day. However, when I printed out my personalized menu at home, I found it highly confusing.
The second snack of the day lists "1 starch, 1 meat, 1 fat", which I assume is the one extra sandwich a day. But then at the bottom it says "*2000 calorie additions: 1/2 cup nonfat milk, 1 sandwich or Jenny cuisine option." Then below that on the third page, it says, "2,300 Calorie additions: Double the 2000 additions. Sandwich: 2 slices of bread, 1 oz. meat/cheese and 1 tsp mayonnaise."
So does the snack I mention above count as the 2,000 calorie addition, or is that seperate? Am I supposed to be eating 2 sandwiches on top of that? That sure sounds like a lot of food! PLease help.

Hi! You're right...that can be very confusing. The "1 starch, 1 meat, 1 fat" is part of the 1700 calorie menu. In order to turn that 1700 into 2300, you double the 2000 calorie additions. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need more clarification.

Thanks for your help. So let me make sure I have this right. I get the "1 starch, 1 meat, 1 fat" (to make 1,700 calories), plus two of the 2,000 calorie additions to bring it to 2,300?
Still seems like a lot of food, but I'll take it!

You got it! It is a lot of food. My husband was on that level originally and did have some trouble with it initially but then he got the hang of it.

Yes, that's right. You need all those calories since you're nursing. Gotta keep you AND the little one healthy. Have a great time eating all that food! If you need any tips on how to "de-volumize" all the snacks and meals, let us know.
